3.5 Stars! Entertaining, sexy, and sincere!

Cross Check, the latest novel in the Bayard Hockey series, is a slightly more emotional tale about the heartbroken, grief-stricken Ella who has been neglecting her studies and masking her sorrow after the loss of one of her friends, and Ben the gorgeous, up-and-coming hockey star who seems positively perfect but has a few dark secrets of his own.

The writing is fluid. The plot is a heartfelt mix that tackles important contemporary issues faced by young p

A fun and sexy college hockey romance where a bad girl and a good guy hockey player discover that behind their animosity they have more in common than they ever thought.

After a tragic event, Ella Verran shoved responsibility out the window and threw caution to the wind, but now she needs to face the consequences of her bad choices. She has to get her grades up and wants nothing more than to patch up her relationship with her BFF. But Ben, her BFF’s boyfri

I love when an author can turn a character around when they get their own book in the series. Ella came off as the "girl gone wild" in the first book. Even going so far as fighting with Skyler, who she has been best friends with forever.

In Shut Out, the first book, we learn what both Skyler and Ella were dealing with as they try to tackle college life. At the end of that book, it looked like Ella was on the road to disaster.

Ella and Ben start out as an enemies to friends to lovers. While they

I’ve been a huge Kelly Jamieson fan for many years and I’ve enjoyed her work immensely, so it was easy for me to jump into her New Adult Banyard series and I’ve been very impressed. Having read the first book, Shut Out, I was well aware of the animosity between the hero and heroine featured in Cross Check. The thing I love about this series, is these characters are young, they make mistakes, sometimes they learn from them, sometimes they don’t, but they do grow, change, and begin to rea

Cross check is the 2nd book in the Bayard Hockey series. It is Ben and Ella’s story. Ella has been partying and sleeping her way through the current semester to the point where she is now on academic probation and has been labeled all the bulls*** stereotypical characterizations that come along with these behaviors. Ben is one of the stars of the college hockey team and destined to go to the big league. He himself has made judgements about Ella, but he is also the one person that can really und

Kelly Jamieson has a knack for writing really entertaining sports romances.
Having said that, this book just wasn't one of my favorites by this author.
It was a cute and enjoyable read but that was all, I really didn't feel any sort of emotional pull or connection with it.

I just love a good sports romance. It also touches on some heavy subjects like rape and suicide. So you get a little bit of drama mixed in with your romance.
I really enjoy Kelly Jamieson's writing style and can't wait to read more of her books.
Thanks NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

I love it when an author surprises me with a character!  We didn't really get that great of an impression of Ella in the first book, but I really enjoyed her in this one.  I thought she really redeemed herself and getting a look inside her head made me understand her more.  Plus we just got to see more of what she's about, you know?  I really apprec

Kelly Jamieson does it again! I loved book one in this series and eagerly looked forward to seeing Ella and Ben's love/hate relationship play out. Though the book started slow, the last half was fantastic. The thing that sets Jamieson apart from other hockey romance writers is her knowledge of the game and how much she puts into showing readers the team dynamics. This is such a huge part of who an athlete is and so it's a huge part of the character she's writing about. She nails it every time.

Last month I read my first Kelly Jamieson novel. It was one of her contemporary hockey romances and I was really impressed. I loved her writing style and couldn't believe how well she pulled off third person dual point of view narration. I was excited to get another chance to read one of her upcoming novels, this time a new adult hockey romance. If I was impressed with the first book I r

I loved the first book of this series.

This one... not so much. I really liked Ben the hero, because I guess a like a hero who has his shit together and who isn't a complete manwhore sometimes. But the heroine Ella, didn't make the cut. She was a complete and total bitch to her best friend Skylar in the first book of the series. And it was impossible for me to shake off. There really was no amount of trauma or excuses that would have redeemed her for me. She was neglectful, mean spirited, jealou

This is the reason why I love Hockey romances!

Cross check is told in the pov's of Elle and Ben.

Elle is a reformed bad girl! I love novels that turn the tables and switch the roles! When she finds herself on academic probation that's when she knows she has officially hit rock bottom. It's time to buckle down and get her grades up. That means no partying and definitely no one night stands with hot college boys.

Ben is a hockey hottie and a man on a mission of making it to the NHL. He doesn't have t
Disappointing. I loved the first book in this series and I am a big fan of Kelly Jamieson's work but not this one.

The blurb: Ella Verran has three goals this semester: get off academic probation, repair her relationship with her friend Skylar, and take some responsibility for her life. All of which are hard enough without hot, snobby hockey player Ben Buckingham around to distract her. Ella can’t stand Ben, and she knows the feeling is mutual. But he’s best friends with Skylar’s boyfriend, so he
I really enjoyed the first book in the Bayard Hockey series and was really looking forward to book two. Kelly Jamieson does a wonderful job with this book. From her Aces Hockey series, I know she can write one hell of a sports romance, but she goes one step further in this series and adds in the trials and tribulations of being in college. In Shut Out, I was impressed when how she worked in heavy subjects like rape, suicide and slut shaming. In Cross Check, she continues to bring awareness to th ...more

I am such trash for hate-to-love romances, don't @ me! So I was pumped for this one. This book is the follow-up to Shut Out by Kelly Jamieson. It follows Ella, Skylar's bestie from the first book. A lot of the books is about Ella trying to right her wrongs from the previous book. So while I think you can read this one without having read the first book, it's probably better if you read them in that order.

I really liked Ella a

Ella and Ben are coming at life from two different directions. Ella has gotten off track and is on academic probation due to her lack of focus, partying too much and general lack of discipline her freshman year in high school. Ben is striving to make it into the NHL and is focused on both his game and his studies. They each feel disdain for each other in the beginning. Ella thinks Ben is a snob and he thinks Ella is a party girl. Both of them hide behind their personas for different reasons.

I love hockey romance. I enjoyed this
one. I really liked Ben and Ella together,
they had a love/hate relationship until
it was burning off the pages hot. They
were funny, and sarcastic but when
they were together, their alone time, that
is when this book really shined. I needed
more of that. I wanted more interaction,
because that was when I could not put
this book down.
This is book 2 of the Bayard Hockey series,
I did not read book one. I probably should
have because they had the main characters

I thought that Cross Check was a sweet and emotional romance that was filled with lots drama and angst.  Tons of sexual tension. And conversations filled with quick wit, humour, and just enough naughty talk to make a girl blush.  It's an awesome book and I most definitely enjoyed reading it.

Ella is trying to rebuild her life after last year's mistakes.  She has a lot to make up for - she partied too much and took her friends for granted.  She didn't try as hard as she should of in her classes.

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. I like Kelly Jamieson, and I like hockey. Still this was not my favorite of her books on hockey, or her characters, however that does not diminish the story. I can't give it a four star, but it was not a 2 star either. So I did not Ella in that last book, so she had to work at it to redeem herself in my eyes, and after a while she did. Then there was Ben, he also had to work at being worthy in my eyes, because some of the thing he said annoyed me ...more

An enjoyable read. Ella doesn't care for Bayard's star hockey forward Ben much, she thinks he's a pretty boy snob and his thoughts on Ella are't much better, he thinks she's a slut. At first their meetings are strained but when the story unfolds, the reasons for certain actions are explained, which are heartbreaking and sometimes proves we should never take things we see as face value.
Wonderful character and relationship development. A great story.

Ella’s life has become a soap opera and she has made a mess of her life. Now she needs to get it in order before she is forced to move back home. Ben has watched Ella from a distance and is not impressed. When they are thrown together several times, they realize there is a chemistry between them they can’t deny. This book will tug at your heart strings, make you laugh, and swoon at the sex scenes. I couldn’t put it down which is the biggest compliment I can give to any book! Don’t miss this one!

Ella spent too much time partying last year and is now trying to raise her grades and act more responsibly. Ben is working hard to get an opportunity to play in the NHL and doesn't need any distractions. While they have the same friends, they've never really gotten along well with one another. They keep getting thrown together at different social events and start to get to know each other on a deeper level. Good story, good's a good read. ...more

Ben and Ella don't care for each other. Ella thinks he's a snob, pretty boy and he basically thinks she is a slut. I was concerned at first, that this was going to be one of those love/hate romances and I couldn't have been more wrong. I gave this book a five star for so many reasons, but the main ones being it made me feel, it made me cry, it changes me and m perception of those around me and the world. This author touched me with this book in ways that I know I will never be the same again.

Kelly Jamieson takes us back to Bayard College and The Bayard Bears Hockey Team.
Ben Buckingham a player for the Bears is trying to live the dream of becoming an NHL player and doing so with a past that he wants to move away from and show people that you can become whatever you want to be not matter what. What Ben never expects is Ella Verran the schools Party girl.
Ella Verran has had a great upbringing, maybe some very overprotective parents and siblings but when life gets in the way and you st

I have read and enjoyed many Kelly Jamieson books, including Shut Out, which was Book 1 in the Bayard Hockey Series. I was hesitant to read Shut Out since it was a college Hockey novel, but it was so good that I jumped at the opportunity to read Cross Check. I was not disappointed. The main characters, Ben and Ella are well developed and very likable. Ben is a doll. Skylar and Jacob, the main characters from Book 1 and Ben and Ella's best friends, also play roles in Cross Check. I enjoy

Loved this hockey romance book!
Ella Verran is getting her life back on track. Her first semester in college was a doozy. She lost a friend to suicide. Drank too much. Slept with too many guys. Now, she is on academic probation and needs to get her life back on track. She doesn't have time for much of anything but getting her grades up and winning back her friendship with Skylar.

Ben Buckingham is on the hockey team and best friends with Skylar's boyfriend. Now, Ben and Ella are spending
