درج بعض الإكليروس على شرح الثالوث القدوس للشعب في عظات ومقالات صدرت منذ سبعينات القرن الماضي تصف الثالوث القدوس بأنه صفاتٌ في الله، فالآب هو الذات أو الوجود، والابن هو الكلمة أو العقل، والروح القدس هو الحياة. والدارج عند هؤلاء هو: أن الله واحد بالذات مثلث بالصفات، لأن الأقنوم هو صفة ذاتية، أو صفة جوهرية.

هذا الشرح، لم نجده في كتابات آباء الكنيسة في الشرق والغرب معاً، ليس في القرون الخمسة الأولى فقط، بل في العشرة القرون الأولى، أي على مدى ألف سنة من تاريخ الكنيسة الشرقية والغربية.
