When Phil Baker has trouble with an invention he’s building for a competition, Detective Mortimer arranges a meeting for him with a mysterious and brilliant inventor who may have the solution. The only catch is that reclusive Sigurd lives in Iceland ... in hiding.
Phil, grieving the loss of a friend, is more determined than ever to keep his family out of an adventure—but when they discover an organization with a machine that can trigger natural disasters, they know they’ve landed right in the middle of one. The organization leader says he wants to help the world, but with an old enemy at his right hand, his claim is hard to believe.
If the Bakers foil the plan of one villain, could they be furthering the plans of a worse one? How does Sigurd know so much about both of them? With the organization on the brink of unleashing destruction in a land of fiery volcanoes, and the future of the world at stake, the Bakers have to beat the countdown of “Earthquake The 2nd” and find out how much of the situation they understand ... and how much is still intrigue.
Ms. Hedgcock's series is simply wonderful. This book was so exciting (the longest one yet!!! :D) and it had a amazing , so exciting, perfectly wonderful ending . Would HIGHLY recommend the whole series to anyone seeking a very good book series . Will not disappoint!! I thank God for like her people who seek to honor Him in there writing
Wow, wow, WOW!!!! This book was amazing! I enjoyed reading this book thoroughly. My siblings and I have read all of C.R. Hedgcock's books and we have never been disappointed. I don't know how she is going to surpass the awesomeness of this book. :D
What I Liked: The absolute best thing that I love in this book and the whole series, for that matter, is the strong Christian messages and all of the Scriptures in it. So many books that claim to have a Christian message tend to let the adventure take first place with a little bit of faith mixed in. But it is not so with this series. Christ is at the center of the main characters' lives and I was encouraged in my own walk with the Lord in reading of the Baker family trusting in God through the adventures that He gives them.
C.R. Hedgcock definitely kept me guessing through all of the twists and turns in this book. Just when you think it can't get any worse, guess what? It DOES! Former enemies are brought into this marvelous story and that made it even more suspenseful and it took me back to earlier books. It's been so long since I read the previous books that I was struggling to remember the details of these former villains, but I quickly got caught up to date.
There were several names and such that I really wasn't sure how to pronounce, but the author very cleverly pointed out the pronunciation of certain words without stopping the flow of the story. I also thought it was very neat in how she crafted this book so that the readers know something that the main characters don't. I won't say any more so I don't give it away. :) This author definitely has a talent for story telling and I admire her skill in weaving an adventurous, yet Christ-centered story.
I LOVED the ending to this story. I even teared up. Actually, there were a few spots I teared up and I was reminded of the Lord's own providences in my life and that His hand is everywhere.
What I Didn't Like: There wasn't anything that I didn't like about this book. I hope C.R. Hedgcock has another book planned in this series!
I give this book five stars for an excellent story. It is no surprise to me that it is going to end up in my favorites of 2017!
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest addition to the Baker Family series. C.R. Hedgecock provides an intriguing adventure plot based in the fascinating and beautiful country of Iceland. The characters are stretched and challenged as they try to work together to solve this latest mystery in the action packed, gripping story. Definitely worth reading :)
Rtc when I reread the book. I loved it so much. Recommend to all ages - but definitely need to read the previous book first as it follows closely on from that. That ending though... *heart melts*
This story builds on the other fun Baker family adventures, with lots of twists and turns along the way.
The Baker children learn important lessons while solving a (potentially) earth-shattering mystery, with a memorable cast of characters and action that doesn't disappoint.
Caitlin has again astounded me with her incredible attention to details and suspense! Was on the edge of my seat the whole time! I couldn't put it down! Can't wait until Baker #7 hits the shelves!
Best book Miss Hedgcock has written so far! I would definitely give it more than 5 stars if possible. It kept my attention throughout, and it was almost impossible to put down! I finished it in three days. The plot was fantastic, the characters all very interesting, and the setting was splendid! But my favorite parts are, and pretty much have aways been, the electronic devices thought up, and used throughout the series. Pure genius. But the BEST part, has to be the fact that God and family are the center of the book. This book, Iceland Intrigue, really encouraged me with those components. C. R. Hedgcock, my hat's off to you!
Book 6 in Baker Family Adventures I really enjoyed! Apart from the fact that it seems a little far fetched that this family faces mysteries and stops evil world changing events every where they go, these books are great! I finished this almost 400 page book in 3 days, which should give testament to it's ability to keep me reading! I could hardly put it down! I'm enjoying seeing Abby at an older age - my age in this book- and I also enjoyed the return of several characters from book 4! These books are rich with truth and this one covered a great topic- doing the wrong things for the right reasons. And the ending!!! *cries with happiness* Highly recommend this series! It's gotten better with every book!
Looking for a clean Christian adventure for your kids or even the family? You found it!! The Bakers have been through many things but they have held on to the faith in God. The Bakers might seem like a normal family but they are far from it. From old enemies to new ones, friends who seem far away, but are always there. If you want intrigue, spies and Christian values and everything is family friendly. C.R Hedgcock is the right person
I didn't like this one as much as #5, but it still has some interesting parts. The author traveled to Iceland to write this book and I guess she really liked it there because there were some parts where she sorta goes into a lot a detail. In my opinion, it would work great for a tourist pamphlet but not a mystery/adventure novel. That said, the last third of the book easily made up for the in-depth discussions about dormant volcanoes and geysers as all the pieces start to come together and you start to figure out who is really on your side.
A cool aspect to this book was that there were not just two parties, good and bad, black and white. There was a group of characters that weren't working for the giant Sith Lord but neither were they aligned with the Bakers. This gave it some more depth to the plot as both the Bakers and the bad guys try to do their things while having to deal with these third-party folks who are doing their own things for their own reasons.
And I still can't decide if I like Hedgcock's making everything a family affair all of a sudden. It would make more sense if she was building up to it in the previous books or something but to me it was a little sudden and a little much.
The last tiny nit I've got to pick is at the very end, and it may be seen as a tiny spoiler by some folks: Viking Squad comes in with DM and the good guys win, they always win. But that isn't how Special Forces work. Mortimer announces to the bad guys that they are under arrest, and then tells them all the Viking Squad has got the place surrounded. The way Special Forces work in a hostage situation is more along the lines of blow the doors open, toss in the flash bangs grenades, and swarm in from every side, guns at the ready. They blew their element of surprise by announcing themselves and then letting almost ten seconds go by while telling the bad guys that they are out-gunned ten to one. In that time anyone of the thirty armed bad guys could've used one of their hostages as leverage.
Brilliant story! And I thought that Prisoner of the Pyrenees was good! I loved learning more about Iceland and its people and customs. The plot was even more exciting than I had hoped for, with just the right balance of humor and suspense mixed together to make a thoroughly gripping story. And the twists…just when I thought that there couldn’t possibly be any more unexpected twists, sure enough, there was another lurking round the corner! Thoroughly enjoyable, definitely a must-read for all Cristian mystery/adventure fans! I can’t wait to read more of the Baker Family series, they are fast becoming a favorite with me. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
C.R. Hedgcock raises the bar again. Just when you think the Baker Family series couldn’t get any better you get an exciting surprise. My children (and I) were riveted as we navigated this adventure story filled with action, suspense and unexpected twists and turns. The best part is that Christ is at the center of it all, leading the Baker family in uncovering deception and exposing evil. The important lessons of prizing wisdom, being courageous in the midst of fear, walking in costly love, and that corruption and wickedness never triumph in the end, is underlined in this drama.
This story was longer than the other books in this series and excellent as usual. Each book has been different and apparently, this one is the "plot twist" book. Along with an interesting story line, I learned a few things about Iceland along the way.
C. R. Hedgcock never fails to keep me glued to her books until I finish. Another splendid, intense, captivating and thrilling read with characters that serve as good examples of Christian faith. Kudos to Ms. Hedgcock for using her skill of amazing and captivating storytelling to honor the Lord!
