This book is a good overview of the issues the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had as it has dealt with the difficulties navigating race a priesthood from 1849 to 1978. I am comforted by the fact that Joseph Smith gave the priesthood to Elijah Abel as well as Walker Lewis and others. I also understand that Brigham Young had 19th century views on race that I do not share. I understand that prophets are people and that they are not perfect, not should we expect them to be. The
