The author, Roderich Benedix, an industrious and pop ular German playwright, was born in Leipzig in 1811, and died in 187 3, after a wandering and versatile career in which he had been, by turns or together, actor, opera singer, dramatic author, theatrical manager, and editor of a literary journal. His complete dramatic works in twenty-seven small volumes were published at irregular intervals from 1846 to 1874, and a selection from them has since been reprinted in a cheap and popular edition, while forty-six of his little comedies and monologues have been collected in the two volumes of his Haus tbeater.
Books can be attributed to "Unknown" when the author or editor (as applicable) is not known and cannot be discovered. If at all possible, list at least one actual author or editor for a book instead of using "Unknown".
Books whose authorship is purposefully withheld should be attributed instead to Anonymous.
Just wanted to be pretentious and have a foreign language book on my shelf. I did try to read this in native German many years ago and can still remember the first line: "Jemand musste Joseph K. verleumdet haben". Or something like that.
