Finally free from her overprotective shifter parents, Eden is ready to discover what it means to live like a human. However, a night out at a club brings her face to face with a shifter mercenary claiming she’s his mark. The human world isn’t all she’d hoped it would be, but it will take a lot more than some hitman to make her give up her freedom and go running home.
Dominic has completed every job he’s ever accepted, gaining respect and notoriety as a mercenary. He lives by his motto: Mercs don’t ask questions; money gets any job done. When he discovers his next mark is human and his mate, he realized there might be something more important than his reputation.
Becca Vincenza lives in wonderful Michigan. She has a love for Skittles, rainbows, Star Wars, and reading about hot men. When she’s not wearing her author hat, she’s working to pay off her student loans for her recently acquired English degree.
Just devoured this book in one sitting. Dominick a shifter Mercenary is hired to kidnap a human women. Being kidnapped was the last thing Eden was excepting much less being attracted to her kidnapper. Things are not what they seem with this job will Dominick able to protect his mate and claim her. Can't wait to read the next book in the series
Freelance is a good and quick read. Becca Vincenza is a great author who knows how to draw readers into her stories. This is the second book I have read from her and I want to read more now. She has a way for taking characters and putting them in precarious situations which sets the scene for them to explore their chemistry. I really love this about this author. Freelance has a good plot. It is about a human girl who was taken in by shifters, but has now decided to go out and be on her own in the world. Little does she know the world is not as safe as she thinks it is. I love this plot. I like the mystery of it and how the character has no clue what is happening. I also love how the author leaves you in suspense until nearly the end. While I found the “whodunit” predictable for myself, it was still exhilarating to have my suspicions confirmed. I really love the main character in Freelance. Dominic and Eden are two very dynamic characters. Dominic himself has a secret and I love trying to guess what it was. Once it is revealed, it just adds to the story even more. Eden has some spunk to her. I love how even when she was afraid, she still stuck her ground. She is a fighter which I love in my female characters. The chemistry these two have together flies off the pages. The heat in this book is in surplus. There are a lot of steamy scenes between the two main characters. The mystery and tension in the story helps add to this heat by adding another layer of depth to the story. When these two get together, sparks fly, and not always in a good way! If you like a lot of heat in your book, this is the book for you! In conclusion, this is a really good story. I really liked all of it. I also realized after I had read the whole story, I previously read another book from this author that I like just as much. I would recommend this book to my friends for a hot and steamy quick read! Great story. Ratings: Plot: 5/5 Characters: 5/5 Heat: 5/5 Writing Style: 4/5 Overall: 4/5
I wish I could have rated this higher, but I think I'm being generous with a 3 star. This book should really be considered a Novella. This book is a prime reason why I don't like or normally purchase Novellas or short stories. Not many authors can pull off a well written novella. I went ahead & got this one, because I had heard of this author & wanted to read something from her.
The world building & characters' background were lacking, I kept wondering about the -how, who, what, where when & why for the characters (like how did he end up a mercenary, or even how old he was since it was never mentioned, or why was it so important to keep the fact of him being a dragon secret if he was the top of apex predator list, what was her life as a human baby raised by were-bears like up to the point she wanted to move out of their compound, a better reason about her wanting to move out of the compound, etc). Because of the lacking background, it was hard to understand the choices they made & be able to draw me in- to even just like the characters instead of feeling indifferent to them. An extra 20-30 pages to build the characters' background & world building, would have increased the star rating on this book. Even though the plot was so predictable, it wasn't so bad for a mindless few hour read. My big gripe on this, there were a lot of editing errors (misspellings, word placement, repetitive/excessive use of phrases or words -"Apex Predator" for example, etc), 1 to 2 per page of the entire published book. How did so many slip by editing or beta readers before being published? The errors definitely slowed down the flow.
This is the first book by this Author I have read and I will be looking into some of her other books, when I got this I was not sure about it but I enjoyed this story. It is a short read of 84 pages. Dominic is a dragon shifter mercenary with a reputation for getting the job done but what happens when his mark turns out to be a Human? Eden is a human adopted by bear shifters when she was a baby, she has been shielded all her life by her parents she now wants to find out what it is like to live in the human world. What happens when these two met? Who wants her dead and why? I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is the first that I've ever read from this author. I wasn't sure what to expect but I think I can say that I'll most definitely be reading more from her. This alpha male was gritty and rough around the edges. His profession isn't ideal, especially when he starts to scent his mate who is human. He struggles with what he should do and what he truly wants to do. Maybe he's not all bad after all. The human isn't new to the shifter world and her spunk makes her a puzzle that our bad boy badly wants to solve. Will he keep her safe, or finish his job? You'll have to delve into this steamy read to find out. Beware! The hotness factor is pretty high on this one!
this one was interesting. it was definitely steamy but I kinda guessed the plot about half way through. I don't know if that's the case for everyone but... the characters were still very interesting and made me want to learn more about them. it also made me want this to be a bit longer simply because it didn't feel like anything was really resolved but like I said a very good short read.
I started reading this today and couldn’t put it down. I love Eden and Dominic’s story. She’s human and he’s a dragon shifter. She was raised in a shifter family so she wasn’t scared of him. Eden doesn’t know she is Doms mate yet. She’ll find out in a very pleasing way too lol. Now I’m off to book 2 ❤️
Wasn't sure what to expect from this story but was pleasantly surprised! This author did a great job with the storyline and the characters. While not a long read it was just right. Dominic was a badass Dragon and it was good reading!!
Freelance is novella 1 and revolves around innocent Eden and hard Dominic. He is hired to kidnap her, but soon realizes that she will be his undoing. Quick, dirty, and satisfying. Mature audiences.
Dominic is a mercenary for hire and he’s not picky about the jobs he takes. If he accepts a job, it’s as good as done. Eden is his latest target. He’s asked to kidnap and hold her until the client is ready to collect her. There’s just one small issue that might prove to be Dominic’s undoing; Eden is his mate. So, will he go through with job as planned?
If you want an easy read you don’t have to think about then this is probably the book for you. Personally I like my story’s with a little more substance. I knew it was going to be a quick read at 84 pages (on Kindle) and I even read the sample before spending £2.44 on it. The writing style was good enough to convince me that the novella might be worth the money but if I’m honest, I was left a little disappointed. There’s no real depth to the story and the plot was a little too predictable. The story had potential but it could have been fleshed out in so many places, as things are hinted at but never fully explained. There are also a fair few errors that should have been picked up in editing. I highly doubt I’ll continue reading this series.
We meet Dom as he's being called to take on a kidnapping job. His target is Eden, a human raised by bear shifters. She finally flew the coop with her good friend Bonnie, and they were enjoying themselves as only young women can when suddenly this very dangerous, very sexy man wants Eden's attention.
Dom isn't one for the cuddles and sweet nothings whispered late at night. He's more comfortable causing pain and making money, but meeting Eden becomes so much more than a job.
Dom is just that DOMinating. And Eden won't back down. I like that about her and he does too. This story is a good short read. My biggest issue with this is that it could be so much longer, the world fleshed out more and the given more details of the character's lives. But when you only have so many words to write within, you gotta choose your battles. (I'm assuming this is meant as a novella, because I've read other stuff by Ms. Vincenza and she creates amazingly indepth characters and worlds. )
Good short read if you're looking for something a short and racy...because this brings the heat!
These guys are ruthless mercenary shifters, they always get the job done….killing, abducting anything for money. What a great new series, I love it!
Dominic is highest in the food chain a dragon shifter and with a reputation for getting the job done. Nothing will stop him, as long as he gets paid. He is contacted by a mysterious client wanting a job done and although he doesn’t know this guy, the price is right. Problem is when he gets his hands on the target, his dragon doesn’t want to let the little human go, what’s a notorious mercenary to do?
Will Dominic, hand her over to his client, or will he give in to his beast? Eden is a human adopted by bear shifters when she was a baby, she has been shielded all her life by her parents and now all she wants to do is go out into the human world and get a taste of her true self. But can she hide from the truth that has caught up with her?
All lovers of shifters have to read this new series, lots of intrigue and suspense, not to mention the sizzling passion!
This book was a pleasant surprise. The way it was written was refreshing and I completely enjoyed reading it. I'm always looking for a good book to catch my eye. When I first saw this book what drew me first was that it was paranormal. Next what drew me in was the page that gave me a mini view of the book . The last test was would I be drawn in by the first page. The characters came to life for me, the smooth flow of the story, it was like magic. I felt invested in this book as though every part was more important than the last. This book was amazingly written and I recommend this to everyone. The only sad part was that I finished it. Yes it's one of those books that you never want it to end, yet you can't wait until you find out what's next.
*I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this advance reader copy and was not compensated in any way.*
Eden is out from under her over protective parents and living with her friend. But someone has it out for her and when a sexy stranger saves her things get complicated. Dominic was hired to kidnap her, he never asked questions but things take an interesting turn when she turns out to be his mate.
I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book. I loved this book and hope the author writes more.
I loved this book! It was short and sweet. The characters were very well developed and the storylines flowed flawlessly. Dominic was complicated and so wonderfully torn and his mate was one of the sweetest characters. The story pulled me right in and kept me on edge throughout the whole story. I read it in a single sitting and it left me craving so much more. Highly recommend to everyone!
I fell in love with Dominique the very first chapter ! He's a smart mouthed sexy mercenary on a mission. Eden is a great mix of spunky and sweetness (I guess, since Dom really belongs to me). Freelance is full of great dialogue, plenty of action and moments that melt your ... heart. :)
I can't wait to read more about Dom & his world!!!
Fun shifter book with twists to keep you on your toes! Really fun brash characters that propel the story along at a great pace. I can't wait to read more in this series!

Let me start with the worst thing I can say about the book: I wanted more of it. Ended far too soon
Now, the good, with some spoilers to come.
This is a great book to dive into without reading the back. If you like romance with a bit of explicit sex and supernatural awesomeness, there is nothing you need to know before starting. The author explains virtually everything as you need to know it and little more than is necessary. This is a potboiler, not a tome that takes a hundred pages before you understand the world you're walking around in.
For the sparse details, the characters come out very relatable, understandable, and familiar. I fell in love with the heroine almost immediately, able to picture her and sympathize with her plight. The hero is a little hard to like, but he's supposed to be that way I think. Nothing in the story, even with fantasy elements, shook me out of my willing suspension of disbelief, the fantastic feeling familiar rather than requiring one to wink and bear it.
The book is not without flaws. The author overuses a few words and phrases, or repeats them just a little to close together. The heroes dialog came off a little corny, which might be an indicator of age or antiquated perspective, but that's a reader's edit, not anything express in the book. These less than great choices mar the book, which has moments of really solid poetry and he goosebump inducing turns of phrase .
Honestly, I think the book needed one more rewrite, a revision to build up the tension and maybe change the pace a bit. If anything, I found the parts that I felt were missteps upsetting because the novella could be outstanding when it was merely good, feeling like work of a really great author who rushed.
I would like to read the other installments of the series. If the author's other works are of the same caliber, I can look forward to my reading time being well spent.
