I have been looking forward to reading and reviewing this second book in the Mended Souls series. THE BEAST WITHIN by Jacquie Biggar did not disappoint! These books are a great blend of contemporary romance with added suspense and the paranormal element of guardian angels that have ties to the main characters.

Julie Crenshaw has made the move to Vancouver from Chicago with her two boys to help move on after the deadly accident a year ago that killed her husband and unborn daughter. It has been a

Well

Ghosts and a murderer? This was a very interesting book and not what I expected at all.
After an accident claims his life, Mike is forced to watch his wife and two sons living life without him. He's angry for losing his happy family and his life. When his wife becomes involved with a murder he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. But watching and trying to protect her from a murderer on the loose becomes more than he bargains for when he realizes she is slowly becoming smitten with an

I like romantic suspense genre, and this book was an unexpected surprise. Two angels trying to find their wings, one of them was the main character's husband form the supernatural elements. One murderer with a need to sever women's left foot and leave little clues + 1 sexy cop + 1 investigating journalist = made this book a potpourri of flavors.

My first book by Jacquie Bigar, the story was a fast read. The sexy elements were electrifying. Julie as the mother and the investigator being followed b

What an enchanting different take on the paranormal side of romance. Thoroughly enjoyed this love story with a side of murder/mystery and an Angel or two thrown in.

I found the opening paragraph of The Beast Within painful to read, but it did set the tone for the rest of the book very well.
I love a good mystery thriller, and the premise for this book promised to tick all of my boxes. It has a strong emotional and romantic element, warring guardian angels and an evil serial killer, all combining into one of the best suspense novels I have read in a while.
Add to all of that, an unrelenting pace, beautifully descriptive writing and multiple storylines, in shor

A wonderful blend of multiple genres, The Beast Within, is the second book the Mended Souls trilogy, but it also reads as a stand alone. I had no problem picking up the storyline involving Guardian Angels, Lucas Carmichael and Mike, both of whom died in the same car crash. While struggling to overcome their animosity for each other, they're also charged with watching over Mike's wife, Julie Crenshaw. A reporter, Julie, is still adjusting to life without Mike, as well as the loss of her unborn ba ...more

THE BEAST WITHIN is a thrilling, suspenseful story that will have you enthralled from the beginning to the end. The ripped-from-the-headlines premise, (severed feet washing up on shore), the wonderfully described characters, and the two guardian angels who can’t get along all make this story an emotional and gripping read. Julie, a reporter, and now unknowingly the prey of a serial killer, meets Conner, a police detective after she discovers a severed foot on the beach. Their path taken to inves ...more

Eyes glued to my Kindle screen, I struggled to put this story down. Ms. Biggar has outdone herself with this psychological thriller based in Canada. On the west coast, but still too close for comfort.

But then comfort is practically non-existent in this riveting storyline that features a serial killer with a twisted view on human life, sparring angels determined to outdo each other, a grieving widow in danger, and collateral damage beyond measure.

Fortunately, there are glimmers of hope in the bud

I listened to the audio book version of this book. The reader had a pleasant and well paced reading style . There were a few places were the quality of the recording wasn’t good but it wasn’t invasive enough to be a problem.

The Beast Within is a unique and interesting story. It starts with the rather shocking discovery of a severed left foot by a young woman, Julie Crenshaw, during her daily walk on the beach. We soon learn that Julie is recently widowed and has moved to Vancouver Island to rais

If you’re looking for a white knuckling mystery, with gutsy paranormal and a hot sucker of a romance, THE BEAST WITHIN, Book 2 of The Mended Souls Series is the story for you.

Although I didn’t read the first story, there was enough info in the Beast for me to catch up with the plot.

Here’s the skinny: Lucas and Mike are two feuding angels. Mike has a secret, and Lucas dearly needs to know what it is, while Mike’s forced to watch his widow Julie Crenshaw getting hot and bothered over Connor O’Rour

I am open minded about the existence of other worldly beings, and would love to think that there were a couple of guardian angels looking out for me and mine.

Julie Crenshaw needs all the help she can get as she is at risk from the very serial killer she is investigating for her paper. Still coming to terms with being widowed, Julie is fighting the temptation to be drawn into a new and complicated relationship with the good-looking lead detective, all the time being watched over by the husband sh

The Beast Within is a well written and interesting novel. I was hooked from the beginning. It kept you curious and guessing who the murderer was. To say I was surprised to find out that the murderer was someone close to Julie ( main female character) is an understatement
In the Beast Within you read form the third person which allows you to look inside certain characters. It was interesting how Jacquie Biggar captures the murderers mental mind and how he kills victims creepy but well written.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
Our protagonists are Julie, a reporter for a local west coast Canadian news outlet and Connor O’Rourke, police officer. While out running on the beach, Julie finds a shoe with a severed left foot in it. A serial killer has come to their part of Canada. Instead of reporting on the story, Julie has become the focus of the local media. Connor is the cop assigned to the case. Needless to say, sparks fly between th

This is a great addition to the Mended Souls series. I loved tagging along with Julie Crenshaw as she went from grieving widow to feisty journalist - with a little help from two angels at odds and one (as Ms. Biggar so perfectly describes him) "tall, dark, and annoyingly handsome" detective named Connor O'Rourke. The twists and turns in this story are amazing. Just when you think you know where the adventure is going, it switches to the unexpected. Definitely kept me entertained and on my toes! ...more

The Beast Within is book two in the Mended Souls series and while I loved The Guardian (book one) for its paranormal romance elements, this one scared the crap out of me! Trust me, that’s a good thing. It’s a psychological thriller with paranormal elements that continues the story of newly-minted angels Mike and Lucas.

Julie, Mike’s widow, is trying to move past the loss of her husband when she discovers a foot on the beach. The reporter in her says it’s a serial killer but the last thing she nee

I loved book 1 of this series and after reading book 2 I can honestly say, it just keeps getting better. In The Beast Within, our Angels Lucas and Mike, continue to do the Lord's will here on earth in hopes of gaining entry to the other side. But to do so they still must learn to forgive and work together; something that just isn't easy to do since Lucas caused the wreck that killed them and took Mike away from his wife Julie and the kids. The Angels must figure out a way to help themselves as w ...more

This is the first of Ms. Biggar’s books that I have read. I can assure you it won’t be the last. Right away we get into the story where a TV news person (Julie Crenshaw) finds a severed foot still in a jogging shoe. While out walking. Instead of an annoying “let’s get to the bottom of this crime,” story we find ourselves involved in a story where we learn Julie’s husband and unborn daughter were victims in a fatal accident with a drunk film star. If that is not enough drama, we also learn that t ...more

This is the second book in the series, and we get to revisit angels Mike and Lucus. Mike is Julie Crenshaw's late husband and Lucus was a famous movie star. Both Mike and Lucus were killed in the same car accident. Julie is a reporter investigating the strange murders of several women. She happened to be walking on the beach when she found a severed foot. Detective Connor O'Rourke is the officer in charge of the investigation. Julie is initial annoyed with him but this turns into something else ...more

Biggar has written a lovely mix of romantic suspense and paranormal. Paranormal is not usually a favored genre for me, but I sincerely enjoyed this book.

Biggar has a knack for pulling you into a scene with her beautifully descriptive words. Her characters are superbly engaging and truly come to life on the page. The storyline is suspenseful and the action scenes will get your heart pounding. I enjoyed the paranormal aspect as well.

I highly recommend this book to fans of the genres.

I got this book for free as a read/review. I was hooked from the start. The story sucked me in and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. There was a few confusing parts where I didn't know who the character was that was being talked about but it did come together at the end. Loved it ❤

A Gripping Supernatural Suspense

This is the second book in Jacquie Biggar’s Mended Souls series, and I can’t believe I managed it, but I read it even faster than the first one.

We pick up not long after the first book ended, and we learn more about the relationship between begrudging teammates Lucas and Mike—or rather, we learn how much that relationship has degraded.

We also get to see how the survivors have moved on, particularly Julie, Mike’s widow. She’s now a reporter, and she’s stumbled ont

This is a continuation from book #1 in the Mended Souls series.
Lucas is still trying to find his wings-so to speak- and newly minted angel Mike is learning how to deal with the loss of his wife, Julie, and their two children.
Meanwhile, Julie is also learning to cope with single parenthood, but when dead bodies start piling up on a British Columbia coastline, she has to place her trust in the hands of the irritating, bossy, sexy police detective assigned to the case.
There's plenty of sparks and a
