I have a problem with the Hero’s name. Really unfortunate and maybe I am the only one that feels that names are important when it comes to characters in a book.

This is better than the first one but still….

I was just not feeling it.

But I was more invested in it then the first one although at some point it was hard to concentrate on the plot as I always felt there was too much going on. That I had to backtrack and reread. The plot is good with some twists and turns that added some spice to the s
This started so promisingly but then I felt it lost itself somewhere in the middle and never really got back on track.

The second book in the "Lost" series. This is Jeb's, Butch's brothers, story.

Jeb has a security business with a couple guys from the last book. His buddy from his unit in the military calls him to cash in on a favor owed. His sister's in trouble so he needs Jeb's help. Off to Kentucky Jeb goes to save the lovely Carolina.

And Jeb and Carolina's love story is born. Theirs is an adventure in suspense, along with car chases, stalkers, humor, frustration, great bantering, fire, mystery

Romantic suspense is one of my favourite genres, as such I jumped at the chance to read and review Lost in Shadow. The blurb hinted at exciting things to happen, which made me eager to read this one. I was pulled into the story from the moment I began reading. The suspense at the drama at the start was riveting and I eagerly turned the pages as I wanted to know how the events would unfold. Unfortunately, after a while, the story began to lose its momentum. I kept reading with the hopes that it w ...more

This is a solid story with likeable characters – and a hefty side-dose of paternalistic behaviour by the men.

I think there’s plenty to like, and I’m sure others will, too. However, I have big problems with men talking to women like they’re too timid to cope with reality.

The characterisation of the men in this book relies heavily on the creepy-as-hell promise ring, daddy owns my virginity and will come after you with a shotgun culture you hear coming out of more conservat

Caroline Walker is a former Pulitzer-winning journalist for the Washington Post, she returned home to Kentucky to nurse her sick mother. Now that her mother has died, she has retreated into a shell and has become something of a recluse and doesn’t do much but handle research for others. Of late she has received crank calls like hang calls and someone who calls and just sits on her phone line then they hang up. Her complaint of having a stalker is what turned her into a recluse. But her own uncle ...more

Carolina, a former investigative journalist, quit her job to care for her mother after she was diagnosed with cancer. After her Mom's passing she switched her focus to research and editing, working with numerous clients. While solving puzzles had always fascinated her, she now prefers to do it quietly from the background. As she's Skyping with her brother, Nate, she's shocked when a van pulls in her driveway and masked men jump out. Nate, having seen a lot with his time in the Army,

Carolina Walker has lost her mother, is separated from her brother whilst he serves overseas, has an overbearing uncle, who also happens to be the sheriff, ad now she seems to have acquired a stalker! How the heck can this pretty much housebound woman have got a stalker! But when her home is broken into whilst talking with her brother via Skype, he sends in the Cavalry. Who just happens to be in the shape of his buddy, ex soldier/sheriff and newly minted security company owner, Jeb.

Carolina Walker has her life changed in a blink of an eye. There’s something that has brought her to the point where she seems to avoid people. It’s a puzzle to solve – is she shy or is it something else. Jebediah “Jeb” McCormick will do anything to help a friend. He may be a take-charge man but he’s very sweet with Carolina. He does enough to push her buttons and get her out of her comfort zone but not enough to freak her out. This is a great way to grab the reader’s attention – author’s good w ...more

This was the first book I read in this series. It was easily a stand-alone, although as I read, I had the impression Katie and Buck had their own book. Carolina's brother enlists Jeb to keep her safe after a break in at her home. I was kept guessing who the culprit was; it seemed like there were several suspicious characters in her life. All the elements were well done - the suspenseful scenes, the romance and fun interactions with friends. I did think there was too much of their romance after t ...more

This was a good book. I liked the semi-political intrigue that the author wove through it.

There is action and suspense throughout, and the story line is created in such a way that I was always wondering what was going happen next.

I enjoyed the secondary characters' contributions to the novel a lot! Tom and Katie were so funny!! I'm eager now to read Katie & Butch's story, just to see the shenanigans the cousins get up to.

Definitely a good read!!

Carolina and Nate were talking on Skye as he was in the army and she was at their ancestral home. They were talking about an investment Carolina had made but Nate wasn’t worried everything she invested always seemed to have a very good return. While Nate and Carolina were talking a vehicle pulled in her yard with masked people and Nate told her to run for the library. There was a hiding place there in the floor that was big enough for two people. But it was dark and made you feel like you were in ...more

**I received a copy of Lost in Shadows from Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**

Lost in Shadows by Anita DeVito is the second book in the Lost series. I read it as a standalone and was still able to follow along easily with the ongoing story. I would give the book a solid 4.3 stars out of 5 stars.

I'd prefer research and editing, myself.

Shoot, that's scary. Fight or flight, baby.

Poor Kate, why does he want to take her car?

Why does he get a codename, and Nate doesn't?

Uncle Mitch sounds like a prick, to hear Nate tell it.

She's kind of obsessed with cleanliness. The state of her kitchen must be killing her.

Yikes, her imagination doesn't mess around.

Her uncle is such a butthole. I wouldn't be surprised if he was behind the break-in and the creepy phone calls.

Jeezus, way to scare her,

Lost in Shadows by Anita DeVito is Book 2 of the Lost Series. While this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone; having not read book 1 of the series, I had no issues whatsoever following along with this story.

This is one of those reads that hits the ground running, fast and hard, from the very start with plenty of drama, action, and suspense. I enjoyed the characters, their interactions, and the world build-up was very nicely defined. Initially, I picked this one because it was

This book is part of a series. If you, like me , have not read book 1 , you will be fine.

The book started out with a fast pace, interesting characters, and plot.
We have Caroline Walker, winner of a Pulitzer prize in journalist. At the moment, she has become a hermit and while Skyping with her brother, men invade her home. Her brother Nate is overseas and enlists the help of his friend and ex-Special Ops buddy to check on his sister. Jeb is such man. He owns a security company and is immediately

Received an ARC for netgalley. Totally enjoyed book. We have Jeb and Carolina. Jeb was asked by his army friend Nate to help his sister Carolina out because she was in trouble and he was overseas. Carolina was a researcher and had issues she did not leave her house, she felt as if someone used to follow her when she previously did, she receives phone calls and no one would speak, but no one believes her, and she was traumatized. And then to top it off someone breaks into her house and she has to ...more

Lost in Shadows in the second book in the Lost series, but can easily be read as a standalone. This is Jeb and Carolina's story.

Jeb runs his own private security firm. When his friend calls in a favor to protect his sister he gets way more than he expected. Jeb is a tough, yet gentle alpha.

Carolina is a journalist she's highly intelligent, but a bit reclusive.

This is a fast paced read, told from a dual point of view. A captivating romantic suspense full of intrigue, suspense and danger. I lov

I received a free copy of this book and am giving an honest review.

Carolina is a woman that has lived the glitz and glamor of Washington DC during her time as a journalist. She returned home when her mother became ill and has stayed, now working as a researcher.

Jeb did his time in the service and left with his bumps, bruises and guilt. He is now doing private security.

He and Carolina have one person in common, her brother Nate with whom Jeb served with. Nate has asked Jeb to go and see Carolina

This author got me going after first few pages in this one when Carolina is on the phone with her brother Nate and danger comes crashing in. That is when Jeb gets his call and me the reader is not going anywhere anytime soon. things do not lighten up anytime soon with investigation in full swing. the enemy keeps picking at her and destroying little bits of hers alittle at a time. In between all this though in wiggles its way is romance fueled by love to two people who fit with each other. Will n ...more

Jeb had done his time in the forces and it had left it's scars - mental as well as physical, he'll never forget. Now he and his brothers are working private security.

While, this book is the second one in this series, it can be read as a stand alone novel. Right from the beginning, I did gain a connection with Jeb and Carolina. I like that Carolina pretended to be tough when she first met Jeb. It was sweet but funny at the same time. Although, after a while of this, I grew tried of it. Yes, I understand that what Carolina where through with a home invasion while she was at home is traumatic and the lack of Carolina's interaction with people played a part in h ...more

Carolina Walker left her job in Washington, DC to do freelance investigative work back in her hometown in Kentucky. But strange things are happening and she’s pretty sure she has a stalker. Her uncle, the sheriff, doesn’t believe her nor does her brother, Nate. Then her home is broken into and her life is in danger.

Nate is serving overseas and can’t help Carolina so he sends one of his old Army buddies, Jeb McCormick, who now runs a professional security service. Jeb believes Carolina’s stories

This was my first book by this author, but it won't be my last. I've already added Anita DeVito to my favorite author list. I adored Carolina and Jeb. Carolina was so very shy, but she didn't let Jeb order her around. She learned to stand up for herself and voice her opinions. Jeb was perfect for her. He anticipated her needs and was both attentive and protective. I loved how he handled her emotionally and by always physically touching her to keep her grounded.

There was plenty of action, myster

I loved the start of this book. It flowed great and reading the interaction between Jeb and Carolina was fun to read. Jeb believed Carolina when no one else did. Less than halfway through, the book started to drag and I lost interest. The best part of the book is the interaction between the secondary characters: Tom, Katie and Butch. Their banter and interactions were hysterical, at times. I loved it. This romantic suspense book would have been better if it was more condensed. I want to go back ...more

This is the 2nd book in the series but I did not read the 1st book.......and did not need to. It's an enjoyable book but not great. It starts off w the heroine who is suffering from a bit of agrophobia and thinks she is being stalked. In comes Jeb who is a security expert to help this shy woman. It starts of great but I was a bit lost in the middle; too much going needed to be tightened up a bit. Also the Clyde nickname thing was annoying.
