The true ending of the beautiful manga is different from its anime counterpart. It’s the final showdown between the emperor and Night Raid plus those in support of rebelling against the imperial powers. Esdeath, a high ranking general sadistic killer who became the leader of the Jaegers, stands at the forefront of the battle. There are numerous showdowns, including the young emperor himself against Wave and Tatsumi as well as Esdeath vs Akame.
The entire story follows Tatsumi as he goes to the capital to find a way to make money so he can help his home village. Once he reaches the capital, Tatsumi realizes the empire is full of corruption, and he’s taken in by the infamous Night Raid. Night Raid is an assassination group and part of the revolutionary forces planning to overthrow the empire.
Unlike many stories, Takahiro writes this masterpiece in a unique way. Throughout the manga itself, the reader assumes Tatsumi to be the main character since the story is told from his perspective. Once the reader finishes the entire manga series, the realization that Akame is the main character of the series hits them suddenly. The title Akame Ga Kill! Literally means “Akame slashes!”. This is one of the most interesting thing about the way the manga is written.
I found myself on the edge of my seat while reading the last volume of an amazing manga. While most of the gore and unflattering images from all volumes of the manga would turn many people away, it intrigued me even further. It fueled my thirst to know more about the empire and why it was so corrupted as well as my hunger for a great adventure story. There were many character deaths however. In my personal belief, it was needed to show the readers just how corrupt the empire was and what lengths many would have gone to restore peace. Each character had his/her own character development as the manga went on, including Tatsumi and Akame. The readers are able to fully grasp how each character grew as the manga drew to a close, and it may leave many in shock when these are the ones who die painfully, especially if they were extremely close to Tatsumi and/or Akame such as Leone. Leone is a big sister figure to many of the younger members of the Night Raid gang. She’s also Akame’s best friend. Before her bittersweet death, Leone was offered medical help from Akame, but declined, saying she wanted to choose when and where she dies. After saying goodbye, Leone spends one last night out with her friends, then dies in very same spot she first met Tatsumi.
Another interesting thing is the amount of world play Takahiro uses with the characters’ names. Akame is a combination of the Japanese words “aka” and “me”. “Aka” is the Japanese word for the color red while “me” means eye. Akame literally translates to “red eyed”, and the title of the manga series is translated to “The Red Eyed Killer”. Another effect of this word play is Akame has red eyes. The same type of word play is also used with the name Kurome, Akame’s younger sister. “Kuro” is the Japanese word for the color black, and she’s portrayed with black eyes. Esdeath’s name is also another word play. Her Japanese name is Esdesu, which is a play on the phrase “S, desu” meaning “I am an S(sadist)”.
The ending of the manga was bittersweet as well. While the revolutionary forces won in the end, Night Raid ended up splitting up with each going on their own path. It was heartwarming to know they all wanted to pursue paths for themselves, but at the same time, it would have been adorable for them to stay together until the end. Of course, life does not work that way, and Takahiro portrays that well at the end of the series.
This series definitely had me mesmerized, and I couldn’t put it down for hours. I’d recommend this to people who love action, bits of romance, and an all over beautifully crafted story.

Final Volume.
A very solid ending that doesn't disappoint...those who should get killed...do get killed/executed etc..
and the others?
Well..there's some bittersweet endings for them..but it doesn't feel forced or wrong with the general tone of the Manga.
I enjoyed the series and the mix of battle manga and some very adult themes made it stand out for me.
Although I do appreciate and have read here...that's not for everyone.

An explosive ending, with plenty of scars for everyone. I do feel like there should be more about the aftermath, but that's not really the point I know... A really good, action packed series.

I am going to be doing a review for all of the manga's here.
It started off really well, and I'm quite surprised as I watched the anime first, and the anime had pretty much followed every single detail for the first few volumes and it was great! It was fast pace and there was clear character development. But then it got to perhaps, Vol 13 and 14. It dragged a lot. I was literally just looking at the manga at this point, reading it seemed pointless because I already knew what was going to happen.
I'm kind of sad that most of the Night Raid had died in the end, especially boobs, I mean, Leone. Cause she had the chance to live. But I guess it was 100% better than the anime cause literally everyone including Tatsumi died.
I really did like the fact that they let Kurome and Mein live, I thought that was pretty cute. But the whole Mein being pregnant creeped me out, they looked 15 at the beginning of the manga and anime. Either way, the thing I like about Manga's and Animes is the character development and there were so many subtle changes in Tatsumi that it was quite unbelievable, and you don't quite notice the changes until you hold out a picture of when you first see their appearance and the last.
But did Tatsumi become human again in the end? I mean... ugh, right.
Despite a few of the volumes being a drag I really did enjoy it and would recommend to new manga readers!

Mood: I still can’t believe I’m done with this series (sobs endlessly)
This volume was absolutely mesmerising from beginning to end. I especially loved the scene where the Emperor calls Esdese for help and Akame suddenly bursts onto the scene to stop Esdese from getting closer to Tatsumi. The scene in which both women crossed swords was particularly powerful.
I also died a little when Tatsumi almost surrendered and saw Aniki, who told him to carry on. That was probably one of the most moving scenes in the whole manga series, if I may say so myself; not to mention Tatsumi going like ‘How many times do I have to tell you? We are Night Raid’ when the Emperor literally asks who the hell they are. Furthermore, it was quite impressive to know Akame used drugs in the final battle considering how much she hates them and what they did to her sister. She also would not stop checking how Tatsumi felt and continuously asked him to stop fighting and take care of himself.
One of my favourite parts was having not only Tatsumi’s teigu, but also Leone and Akame’s take over them. Every battle has its aftermaths and although it was painful to see the characters suffer that much, the story’s dénouement would not have been realistic otherwise. Having them all go separate ways in the end also left a bitter taste in my mouth, but I understand it was completely necessary.
Summing up, I would recommend this series to pretty much everyone. Action packed while still having a great storyline and fully developed characters -who would not enjoy that?

Este ha sido uno de esos tomos que hipnotizan de principio a fin. Resaltaría la escena en la que el Emperador llama a Esdese en mitad de la batalla y, cuando ella acude a ayudarlo, Akame irrumpe en la escena para frenar a Esdese y evitar que se acerque a Tatsumi. Escalofriante el momento en que ambas mujeres hacen chocar sus espadas.
Creo que una parte de mí murió cuando Tatsumi, agotado, estuvo a punto de rendirse y tuvo una visión de Aniki diciéndole que continuase luchando. Sinceramente, la considero una de las escenas más conmovedoras de todo el manga, y ni hablemos de la fuerza del momento (inmediatamente posterior al de Aniki, por cierto) en que el Emperador pregunta: “¿Quién demonios son ustedes?” y Tatsumi responde, gritando, que son Night Raid. Además, me sorprendió bastante que Akame tomase la decisión de drogarse de forma previa a la batalla final, sobre todo considerando el daño que esto hizo a su hermana y lo mucho que la integrante de Night Raid odia dichos fármacos, en consecuencia. Por último, ver a Akame preocuparse por Tatsumi durante toda la batalla, acercarse a él para comprobar que estaba bien y pedirle que se retirase cuando el chico estaba al límite de sus fuerzas ha sido tierno a rabiar. La química entre ambos personajes siempre ha sido mi debilidad en este manga.De hecho, siempre pensé que Tatsumi y Akame acabarían juntos, incluso cuando él empezó a salir con Mine. Me alegro muchísimo por ésta última, y supongo que así la historia resulta más original y menos predecible de lo que sería si Tatsumi y Akame fuesen pareja, ya que son los dos personajes principales, pero oye.
Otro de mis aspectos favoritos ha sido la fusión entre personajes y teigus, que no solo se aplica a Tatsumi (como nos hacían ver desde hace ya varios tomos), sino también a Leone y Akame. Esto otorga un mayor grado de realismo al desenlace de la historia, ya que se muestra que cada batalla tiene sus consecuencias y, lógicamente, estas no solo se aplican de forma arbitraria a algunos de sus participantes. El final ha resultado ser un tanto agridulce, sobre todo por el hecho de que cada personaje ha seguido su propio camino, pero entiendo que era algo totalmente necesario para el desarrollo de la historia.
En resumen, recomendaría esta saga a prácticamente cualquiera, independientemente de su afición por el manga. Grandes dosis de acción sin obviar por ello una trama compleja y unos personajes claramente redondos y perfectamente desarrollados: ¿quién no disfrutaría al leer una historia así?

Here we are: the final volume. Both the Empire and the Revolutionary Army know this is the make-it-or-break-it battle, as neither side has the resources for further war. However, the odds are increasingly in the Empire’s favor thanks to the Supreme Teigu and the fact Tatsumi is being slowly devoured by his own Incursio.
As you might expect, this is an action-heavy volume. Fans of Tashiro’s battle sequences will be pleased. Tatsumi and Akame are forced to go beyond their limits in (mostly) one-on-one battles with the Emperor and Esdeath respectively. I’ve complained about the narration before, but it’s minimized this time around. This is all about the slashes, the punches, and the blasts. The mixture of panel-heavy blows and intimidating full-page spreads did a good job of reflecting the stakes and the dangers, but Akame’s fight is by far the better of the two battles. It concentrates on the two female warriors without a clutch save from someone else, and Esdeath is confident rather than whiny like the Emperor.
Even though these two battles started in the previous volume, it still takes most of the 300(!!) pages here to show the ultimate conclusions. Most people won’t find the outcome a total surprise, but in true Akame ga KILL! fashion, this is not a simple happily-ever-after. Expect a bloody or tragic end for some, and even the ones who pulled through have some physical or emotional pain.
Speaking of the ending, I was a little disappointed with the final chapter. It’s more of an epilogue, checking in on the survivors and narrating how they spent the rest of their lives. Because of this, there’s a lot of time a potential follow-up could cover. I guess that’s why the volume tells us a lot but skips out on showing. I was hoping more for a fond farewell, showing just how much the world has changed since an innocent, bright-eyed Tatsumi left town with his friends. There’s only one real emotional farewell, and I’d rather focus on the characters rather than the overall future history of the Empire.
Still, though, this final volume Akame ga KILL! does what fans want it to do: provide a satisfying conclusion. The battles against Esdeath and the Emperor don’t end with anyone suddenly laying down their weapons. That might work in other series, but not this one. In fact, a particular villain gets one of the cruelest yet satisfying comeuppance I’ve ever seen. No matter if you’ve been a casual fan or a die-hard follower, you don’t want to miss what happens to the Empire.

What can I say about this manga? I just love it so damn much! The characters, the plot, the art... everything! Even though in this last tankobon we don't really receive all the answers that we needed, but there are two spin-offs, that I still have to read, so maybe I will get my answers from them. But the plot is still so good! And the characters! You can't hate anyone of them, even the enemies are so charming (I love Esdeath), but the Night Raids are probably the best. We follow the adventures of these killers working for the Revolutionary Army, which are fighting against the evil Empire and the devilish Prime Minister. Tatsumi arrives at the Capital City, hoping to become a soldier, but soon he will find out that the city and the Empire are rotten to the core. So he decides to join the Night Raid, lead by Najenda, to fight against the evil. We meet Leone, Mine, Lubbock, Sheele, Bulat and the incredible killer Akame, and we're gonna love them all. What I really liked about this manga is that we find out a little bit of the future of everybody, why they joined the Night Raids, so that you can feel empathy towards them, and then they die. Yes, the main characters in this manga series die, like it happens in real wars. And everytime is heartbreaking but it is so much better than all those other shonen mangas where nobody dies until the end, because this way it feels much more like reality, like you don't know if your favourite character is really going to survive the next battle. Another thing I loved about Akame ga Kill are the enemies. They are evil, well not all of them, but most of them are just despicable humans, and well, you are gonna like them too! Because we learn about their pasts, why they decided to fight for the wrong side, this happens with Run, Wave, Kurome. While others are just monster, like Esdeath, but trust me, she is one of the best enemies ever. So yes, I really loved this manga, I just finished reading it for the second time, and it is still so good. Trust me, you won't regret it.

I'm crying as I write this I actually can't believe it's over!
The love I have for this series is unreal and can't be compared to anything else I've read.
Glad to see that Leone's death was changed to her anime ending that saved me a little bit but still broke my heart that she couldn't make it the whole way.
Esdeath was completely STACKED like crazy powerful but her end was depressing. In the anime she freezes herself and Tatsumi and her powers crystallise and they both pass away peacefully but here Akame deals the final blow but in an attempt to salvage her dignity Esdeath freezes herself, basically killing herself so no one else can have the victory. I think that really highlighted the dependency on Akame from the revolutionary army.
As a result, there are discussions within the community of this series whether Akame or Tatsumi is the main character. I personally believe that despite Tatsumi's dumb carefree male stereotype that would automatically make him that main character it is 100% Akame.
Which is maybe why I'm so excited to read the next series with a whole new set of characters but Akame still pops up.
I seriously don't think I can describe how special it was to read this series to completion, obviously there are always faults and imperfections within the 'realism' of these types of reads like there is no way that a tiny pink haired girl (who looks 14) and a dragon boy are raising a child together, but that's what makes it so fun to read. It's a cast of characters that I will never ever forget and despite it being mega expensive it was so worth the journey! I loved the round up of what everyone gets up to after the war and I really appreciate that it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows people are dealing with emotional and physical damage so there is still room to imagine what happens to these characters in their later lives.

As a result, there are discussions within the community of this series whether Akame or Tatsumi is the main character. I personally believe that despite Tatsumi's dumb carefree male stereotype that would automatically make him that main character it is 100% Akame.
Which is maybe why I'm so excited to read the next series with a whole new set of characters but Akame still pops up.
I seriously don't think I can describe how special it was to read this series to completion, obviously there are always faults and imperfections within the 'realism' of these types of reads like there is no way that a tiny pink haired girl (who looks 14) and a dragon boy are raising a child together, but that's what makes it so fun to read. It's a cast of characters that I will never ever forget and despite it being mega expensive it was so worth the journey! I loved the round up of what everyone gets up to after the war and I really appreciate that it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows people are dealing with emotional and physical damage so there is still room to imagine what happens to these characters in their later lives.

The whole battle sequence was absolutely incredible. Akame being able to unleash her trump card finally. Her, doping up to fight in the battle. I didn't expect that. Esdeath really was a force to be reckoned with. Only a couple openings made during the whole battle was insane. Her defensive and offensive power is absolutely incredible.
I'm glad Wave made another appearance. It's nice that him and Kurome are going to be in a relationship. I'd be interested to see where they end up.
Tatsumi going back to Mine and them making a new life for themselves is nice to see. I'm glad the journey led them to each other. It was sad to see Leone pass away. At least she got to live out her last moments happy. The little flashback to her first meeting Tatsumi and then laying down to die under the streetlight. My heart...

Now this is how Akame ga Kill! really ends! This was great, and makes me like the series so much more. Not sure why they took the anime down the route that they did, but the manga is much better! With the anime there's a bitter sweet ending leaning heavily on the side of bitter, but with the manga I would say the end leans more toward the middle, or even the sweet. A really good conclusion to an amazing story.

Wow, it's a way more powerful (and brutal) ending than the anime. I definitely enjoy Tatsumi's fight against the supreme teigu and Akame vs Esdeath. If I had to nitpick, I'd say the Esdeath fight painted her more godlike than mere "empire's strongest". Just seemed like she's only made so strong just for the theatrics. But aside from the feeling that the fight dragged on more than necessary, I did find the somewhat tragic end to be both a poignant and satisfying conclusion to the series.

Empezaré diciendo que me vi primero todo el anime, lo cual me dejo con más dudas que respuestas así que me fui por todo el manga y... ufff... uno de los mejores que he leído. Muchísima acción, la necesaria para que se sintiera la revolución que se necesitaba. Lo único que me dejara con una extraña espinita fue el fina... fue demasiado WHAT!!! Pero de ahí en fuera muy bueno (:

Bitter sweet ending, ended a bit more tragically than I was expecting it to, but not unsatisfyingly so. I had a problem of remembering characters because of the rate of release, so I feel I would be more impacted if I read them all in a go. Will probably restart this series, but I enjoyed it.

I gotta say I love the manga more than the anime after finishing this final volume. I wish the anime explored the relationship with Tatsumi & Mine 🥺 I absolutely looooooved them! I have to go rewatch the anime because I forgot some people’s deaths.

This is not a long series. The story not that complicated, the strongest enemy was only one from the beginning to the end. In the end, this series more on action scene rather than the story. But overall this is a good series.

I liked the boldness of the story, the darker tone, and the way it showed the cost of fighting for change. Some characters were really memorable, and there were moments that genuinely surprised me. That said, I didn’t love everything about it still it was an entertaining ride.
