“Catology” made me laugh so hard I kept snorting. It is a perfectly dark view of cat psychology told through cartoons. It would make the perfect holiday gift for a friend or loved one who loves cats but recognizes that they can be devious and cunning creatures. It is definitely an adult book, so keep that in mind.

This short little "book" was fun but I doubt I would've paid for it. Each page is basically a one pic "catology", and while they are funny, there isn't enough meat to this book to really make it worth it. Which is sad for me to say because I seriously LOVE cats. The little cartoons and catisms are cute though, and I was able to read it in one break at work.

Being a Cat and Dog owner I can 100% relate to Catology.

Catology is a book all about cats and their mannerisms, and behaviours.

For example one of the pictures is of a cat laying on its back fully exposed. Now that picture looks adorable. However every cat owner knows that if you even attempt to touch that belly you will get hurt!!
Adrian and Oliver describe this as "I’m half cat, half Venus flytrap. Touch my stomach and see what happens."
Couldn't of described it better myself as that's exactly what cats do. They clamp up like a fly trap!

I loved this book. It was long enough to keep me thoroughly entertained the whole way through.

The illustrations are brilliant and they add humour to the witty comments.

I haven't laughed so much reading a cat book for ages.

I honestly feel this book would not only appeal to Cat owners but Animal lovers and people who love to read short comedy stories about cats.

Highly recommend. Thoroughly Entertained, want to read again, will definitely be recommending to all my friends and family.

This was a really cute, short and funny read. I really enjoyed the cartoons but I don't think that cats are as self-serving and wild as they are portrayed in this book. I have three cats and while they do rule me and boss me around when they are hungry, want a cuddle or want to go to bed, they are just as happy to have a cuddle when I want one and are really gentle (quite frankly they're too lazy to play up much). Hence, the lower star rating although I did enjoy the book (especially the cartoons).

A humorous look at life with moggies. Short and sweet, this is a good insight into the minds of our feline friends. However on the kindle format, the cartoons took up so much of the page that the text often continued onto the next page so the flow wasn't ideal.
However the cartoons did tickle me - some were absolutely spot on!!

Catology is one of the most deliciously dark and sarcastic books I've read in ages. Each little illustration is accompanied by an insightful and often humourous caption that gives us a look into the world of our furry friends... ahem... indifferent overlords.

As both a cat lover and someone with a whole shelf of these kind of humorous books that you can just dip in and out of when you have a few minutes to spare I absolutely jumped at the chance to review Catology. Unfortunately the book is actually a lot shorter than I expected and it didn't quite contain as much detail as I had hoped for.

I read a digital edition so I can't confirm the print layout but on my Kindle you see one image per page with a short one or two sentence caption underneath. Some of these cartoons are brilliant but only a couple actually made me laugh out loud and it wasn't enough that I could imagine myself flicking through the book a second time. There are only around 80 pictures included so it's a very quick read and I'd read from cover to cover within about 10 minutes but I just thought the book was lacking in depth compared to other similar books out there.

I've included a couple of my favourite images to give you an idea what to expect, these particular ones read very true to my experiences with my own cats and all got a chuckle out of me.









There is a reason that cats are so popular and I think it's because of their independent attitudes and the way they just completely ignore all commands and do exactly what they want when they want. People don't own cats, we're totally owned by them and this book does capture that so I think it would make a nice little stocking filler for any cat lovers in your life.

This book does exactly what it says on the tin. Insight into the mind of a cat; oh my goodness, who would really want to go there? Scary place. Well, it is if my cat is the patient on the psychologist's couch anyway.
As with all cartoon books of this type, especially when you throw the subject matter of cats into the mix, some of the cartoons will be funnier than others. Some will resonate, some won't. Some will make you nearly weep with laughter, some will just make you chuckle and a few just won't click? But then that's the beauty of cats. They are all in their own scary way unique. As long as the majority evoke some kind of reaction, I'd call it a win and it was for me with this book. It even brings us right up to date with respect to cats and their every increasing popularity on social media. That could cover a whole book in itself but it is very well covered here in amongst all the other cat related plotting, general observation and other shenanigans!
Always on the hunt for stocking fillers and other silly "saw this and thought of you" presents, having originally read the ebook version, I went on to get me an actual physical copy of the book itself and I have got to say that it's even better in the flesh so to speak. I know a fair few people I will be gifting it to.
All in all, a great little book that will definitely be of interest for cat slaves. Just be aware that it could also get into the hands of those not feline-inclined who may just use it to say "I told you so"!

For those that have been following the blog for a while, you know that I'm slightly obsessed with cats. I will read anything about cats. I also love comics. When I saw Catology on NetGalley, I had to request it. It's a book of comics about how cats think. i think it would be hilarious. Unfortunately, i didn't care for it at all.

Catology seemed almost like it was trying too hard to be funny. It completely missed the mark. I was bored throughout most of the book. Also, the synopsis of the book makes it seem like there will be a more educational look at the psychosis of cats. There wasn't at all. It was just a bunch of comics that poked fun at cats particular habits.

The only reason why I am giving this book two star instead of one is that a couple of the comics made me chuckle. All in all, I was very disappointed with Catology. I think the synopsis is incredibly misleading. I would not recommend this book to anyone. There are books that are a lot better if you wish to read something about cats.

Catology: Inside the Twisted Mind of our Feline Friends is a fun and cute collection of cartoons. Some were funnier than others, and some will speak to particular readers more than others. The artwork is done in black and white line drawings, and like the humor some are more appealing than others. I enjoyed the read, some of the cartoons made me chuckle, but others had me shaking my head and moving on to the next page. Occasionally I found the artwork to be less skillful or complete than on other pages. This might be a good gift for some cat lovers, but this cat fan was only mildly amused rather than laughing out loud, which is what I was hoping for.

Catology, by Adrian Searle and Oliver Ninnis, is a cute little book of one-shot comics illustrating what goes on inside the minds of our furry little overlords. Most are incredibly believable interpretations of feline behaviour. One moment sweet and cuddly, the next all flailing claws and teeth, cats are certainly among our most fickle pets. Cats are more 'recent’ domesticates, and still retain most of their wilder behaviour, never mind that, with exceptions of species like lions, most cats do not live in large groups. Unlike dogs, with their pack mentality, cats are fiercely independent, fickle little things. They are royalty and they know it. I enjoyed all of this quick read. Three of my favourites were a comic of a cat in a tree, with the caption 'I’m not stuck. I'm only here so I can look down on you in contempt’, a cat on a table who is about to knock over a wineglass, with the caption 'We all know how this is going to play out and it is most definitely your fault, not mine’, and a cat hiding behind a couch staring at a vacuum cleaner, with the caption 'Indeed the Devil himself walks the earth and his name is Dyson’.

When you own a cat (or rather the cat owns you) and you are clearly not his favourite person, more a practice in attacking than anything else, when you see a book about cats and how they think, you know you have to read it.

Catology is a very quick read, and although the synopsis tells you what it's about, I did think we would get more within the pages.
I did like the images that went with the book, each page was an image of a cat carrying out various activities with a snarky/humorous comment to go with it. I did relate to several of the images, especially ones that relate to maiming/killing owners (a.k.a me)

I was expecting more pages within the book, and more words with less pictures.

Final Verdict
Overall I did like Catology. It was a refreshing change to my recent reads, and I could relate to most aspects of the book.

Cats and their owners have always had a relationship based on equality instead of the owner-dog relationship which can be likened to that of master-servant. Cats simply rule. They do what they want, how they want, and when they want. Their owners adore them unconditionally.

This book is made up of many cartoons that will have the reader laughing especially if they are owned by a cat or two.

As a Crazy Cat Mom of three delightful kitties, I enjoyed this book of cartoons. Whether you have cats or not, don’t miss this. It’s really enjoyable.

Such a fun book! This book is a collection of drawings about cats and what they are thinking. And boy are they on point! I laughed so much that my own kitties appeared to be wondering about me! It was a fun book to read and I was able to read it relatively fast. It was a great way to be away from the world for a bit, reading about the minds of the felines that I personally love so much. I could relate easily to so many of them, from scratching, eating, hairballs, and wanting all of my attention.

If you love cats, read this! You will enjoy it. So should everyone else!

Let me begin by saying I'm not much of a cat person, so I guess that's a factor as to why I did not appreciate/understand some of the entries in this doodle collection. The art was really cute and apt for this book's whimsical premise though :)

I have two kitties and books about cats always catch my eye.

This book has about 80 cartoons that will give you insight into the motivation of your kitty. This was a quick fun read and kitty lovers will find it amusing.

I love this book, Adrian Searle gets under the skin of our feline friends in an uncanny way.
I don't have cats myself, but those I do come across, especially when they visit my garden, are very like the descriptions in this book.
Highly recommended.

This is a cute collection of cat comics which poke fun at cats' various weird mannerisms and their relationships with their servants, sorry, I meant owners,. The illustrations are nice enough, but "Catology" really shines when it comes to the captions,which are really well done.
