I started my first "real" comics with The Monkey King in the late 80s and those books are some of the few things I have left that really matter. The story is part of a 34 part series based on a monkey cast out from "heaven", with beautiful illustrations. His travels with a priest and a pig who lives under the salty waves, casting flaming skulls at any who dare come for him is dark and witty. I like the idea that this is a kids book and the bad guys can keep being bad and helping people.
