The book begins with Raj, Ramya and Aparajita going out to get Aparajita enrolled in a school which is one of the bests in Delhi. The author begins well, describing Lutyen's Delhi and colonial architecture. The architect in me was enjoying it till it lasted, which was hardly two pages. He painted the picture of the city well.
The trio reach the school and narration of the past begins.
Ramya explains her background explaining why the admission to the school was that important to them. The story i

The cover of this book is quite beautiful and perfect for a topic such as the one implied by the title. The women look trapped .... and so lovely and innocent .... the subject of forced prostitution must have been a difficult one to write.

The author has written a fairy tale where the daughter of a prostitute ends up getting the life she deserves - she gets a childhood and she gets a father. I suspect it doesn't often end like this in real life. I commend the author's effort to show the seamy sid

My rating is 2.5

There is no happiness without a realization of pain. That was the main thing missing from the story, a bit of pain.

Now as we move ahead in the tale there are more characters that show Aprajita the path of success. The story moved in the same way as it moved in the first half.

Even the ending was bland. There was no place where I could have laughed or felt like crying from the bottom of my heart. It was like a mechanical show of an overly sensitive topic.

If we talk about the writin

First, the book name caught my attention followed by the blurb. The book cover is apt because it just gives the feeling of trapped women and light at the end of the journey. That's what I was able to understand at a glance. I didn't know how much the story would be similar to the cover until I was half way through the book.

We see lots of social problems in our day to day life and we usually gloss over them. We don't think deeply on it. So I was surprised that the author has attempted to make the

The story, The Princess of a Whorehouse revolves around a girl, Aparajita and how she overcomes her circumstances to survive in a world that looks down on her. The title of this book – The Princess of a Whorehouse – The Story of a Swamp Lotus is most eye-catching and tempts the reader to give the book a second glance.

People like Noori and Anjum prey on the helplessness of women, mostly uneducated they trust these scum and fall into the pit of flesh trade. Ramya is one such woman who is a widow a

Sometimes you find a book which promises a lot but does not do good justice to the topic.

This book has a awesome Topic and cause.
But the book lacks in flow and narrative. The narrative looks choppy and abrupt when the chapter ends.

Also the language although very simple does not keep you engrossed.

A good attempt by the author. All the best for Future books

A nice short read through. Author has taken a sensitive topic and created a story out of it nicely.
Talking about the stereotype society. Way society works how an woman gets into an unfortunate situation how good people help her and how her offspring tackles with the world with her mother's past is nicely told. In fact the way it works is what has been portrayed. Simple narrating style also adds to the positives. Good book.

‘The Princess in a Worehouse’ is an inspiring story with a touching ending. The word ‘Princess’ in the striking title beside yet another defining word ‘Whorehouse ’is prolific in its summation of the book; the stark contrast in these significantly telling words represent the two worlds depicted in the book, those of the hell and heaven at once.
The author leads the reader to the looming tragedies of the protagonist through nimble steps those make loud knocks in the reader’s mind as they do in Ra

Realistic, relatable and thought provoking, the story is not only inspiring but one that brings forth the dangers lurking in corners generally considered as safe. Apart from highlighting the fact that once trapped it’s very difficult for the victim to escape the whorehouse, it also highlights the concerns of children born to sex workers, their education, their future, their trauma, etc ….

There are dreams, dreams that spur the protagonist to try achieve the impossible and there are people who joi

The book shows the eyes of a woman forced to live a change that sweeps away all the landmarks, narrated from inside trying to capture all the nuances. The complexity of the plot, interspersed with events contrasted with simple, dialogues and descriptions allows us to fully experience the story. This is a pearl for lovers of the genre.

Through this book, the author’s message is crystal clear. This type of topics are never discussed. We consider sex workers as cursed people but what about their children? Don’t they have wishes? Even they want to study. It is not written in any book that children of sex workers will become sex workers only and they are forbidden to study. I was deeply touched by the book and these questions kept on hovering over my head.

I loved the book cover & I was intrigued by the title of this story. I ordered it from Amazon & now I am totally regretting it why did I.

I generally do not like to leave so many bad comments because I do not want someone to lose their spirit.

But this time I extremely sorry that the moment I started its first chapter I felt I was reading story from 4th or 05th standard textbook. I neither liked its narration nor its writing style.

A mother who was forced into the sex trade, a daughter who dreams of a better future, a man who loves them both - The Princess of a Whore House has some great characters who withstand the difficulties that life has thrown at them. They persevere together and their story is fascinating.

I loved the way how the characters were portrayed and the events which were used to spin a perfect story. Though it wasn't a bulky novel, (I love fat novels) within 98 pages, the author was successful enough in bringing out the best of the character Aparajita from being a small girl to a grown one, realising her dreams.

I accept the fact that the author has done a fantastic job in writing the intriguing story. To be truthful, I loved everything in the second half. It is full of positivity.

This book is about Ramya and her daughter Aparajita. Ramya lost her husband in an accident. She was sold by her husband’s friend, Anjum, into flesh trade. She was too young to understand the world and gets carried away and totally trusts Anjum. Anjum talks about new life for her in New Delhi, but what she really encounters at Delhi was very different. It was nowhere close to what she was told.

Mayank Sharma has managed to depict the realistic tale of the difficulties faced by sex workers in leading a normal life even after they have quitted the job. It also restores the feeling of love and finding love, when one least expects it. The twists and turns make the story interesting while the simple language and flow add to its readability value. The Princess Of A Whorehouse was like a journey into the dark life of the sex workers, which was quite enlightening.

When you read this book, you understand the hardship millions of girls and women face in their day-to-day life. This book talks about one such issue, 'prostitution'! The story is very realistic and a very common story but written very gently. Hope you all enjoy my review :D

I picked this book for review as I am sensitive to the issues related to women and prostitution is one of them. By reading the blurb and title of the book, I expected it to be more about the life of prostitutes and how the lead role Aparajitha achieves her dreams with difficulties. But, this book is not that negative. The story focused on more positivity and hope than making it depressing and negative by discussing the problems in red light areas. This is really great about the author as the sto ...more

The Princess of a Whorehouse is a book that deals with a topic which needs to be handled very sensibly. It is very sensitive and delicate topics and requires very careful handling and narration not to distort the essence of the book. And I must say that the author has done a wonderful job in churning out a very soulful and sensitive story out of this delicate topic.
