Author Biography: Marcelo M. Suárez-Orozco, the Victor S. Thomas Professor of Education at Harvard University, is codirector of the Harvard Immigration Projects. He is author of over eighty scholarly articles and several books, including Children of Immigration (with Carola Suárez-Orozco, 2001), Cultures Under Siege: Collective Violence and Trauma (with Antonius Robben, 2000), and Crossings: Mexican Immigration in Interdisciplinary Perspectives (1998). Mariela Páez received her doctorate in Education from Harvard in 2001. She is currently working as a researcher at Harvard University.

This had to be one of the most influential, important, and informative books I have read. Over the span of several hundred pages, it discusses many sociological issues occurring inside/outside of Latino culture and how it translates in current society. This undoubtably is an amazing text, and covers a great amount of ground, although I would like to see an update on this series. I see this as a fundamental reading for ALL to read.

*Latinos: Remaking America* is heady stuff that is the perfect textbook for a Sociology class with an emphasis on Latinos. It's perfect because there are so many issues that this book addresses that readers can relate or connect to today's current events on Latinos. Such issues are education, language, religion, health, women, employment and many more. This book should serve as the bible of Latinos in America.

The reason I said it was heady stuff because there are a lot of statistics in the book. While I believe that statistics are important, I do have to say that some of the graphs are not "friendly". However, it is understandable why there are such graphs...because there are too many variables.

However, I did wish that there were essays or articles by grassroot Latinos to give readers a "breather" from heavy reading. I took me over a month to read this detailed book. With Latinos constantly growing in America, I will not be surprised if this book has to be revised in the near future.
