I love a good murder with a Christmas theme. Toss in some eggnog and it's a great tale to bring in the holiday spirit. Lee Hollis has a lengthy series, and you should read them in order. But all the books are fun, and the rest in this grouping will help you decide whether to chance the other authors. I enjoyed them all!

Very similar to the other Eggnog book I read, Eggnog Murder.

Somebody drinks eggnog. She is allergic to dairy and of course, DIES.

How and why she was murdered was a little bit surprising, but I will still stop reading any more books about eggnog causing death. I happen to like the stuff and don't want to read anything else about how it can kill people.

#2- "Death by Eggnog" by Lee Hollis is a short novella in the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mysteries series. Hayley is at an annual Christmas food festival that the local business have brought samples to. Some seem to turn deadly. Hayley gets involved when the prime suspect asks for her help. There's a slight twist that I was excited to say, "Ha! I knew there was something off about them!"

This is a novella for the Christmas season, and it is part of the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mystery series. The plot is reasonably entertaining, but less than believable. This review does not cover the other two novellas included in the book, and they are being reviewed separately.

Death by Eggnog by Lee Hollis
First time reading this author so playing a bit of catch up with the characters.
Hayley works at the Island Times and she gets along with a crime reporter Bruce but they don't mesh all the time.
The town is having their annual restuarnt dinner where everyone brings their establishments best treats to sample. Some are allergic to nuts and some to dairy.
Nobody gets along with the 80 librarian but none wanted her dead either. Amazing that we have been to this town in Maine-Bar Harbor and enjoyed other places nearby: Jordan's Pond, Mount Desert, etc. Awesome place to find nature, outside and peace.
Lot of characters but easy to keep track of who is who and does what for a living. Has recipes.
Love how Hayley helps solve the mystery of who the murderer was. She does talk to a lot of others in town and asks a lot of questions.
I received this review book from The Kensington Books and this is my honest opinion.

Death by Eggnog by Lee Hollis is a novella, book 8.5 in the Hayley Powell Food & Cocktails Mystery series. This one takes place around Christmas time and follows Haley Powell‘s investigation of Agatha Farnsworth’s very public murder at the local Restaurant Association Dinner. Agatha, a widely hated old crone, was poisoned and murdered leaving Hayley to try and solve the mystery with a long list of possible suspects. As per the usual in the Hayley Powell Food & Cocktails Mystery series Hayley Powell, single mom & author of a local food column, conducts her own investigation while juggling her 2 kids, pets, and a tumultuous love life.
Currently in the series Hayley’s kids are growing up (Gemma is in her first year of college but home for the holidays & Dustin is visiting his dad out of state), she is still currently single (her most recent ex was Aaron the vet & things with her frenemy and co-worker Bruce are heating up), her best friends Mona & Liddy are still right by her side.
This is my second time reading this book, it was actually the best first book in this series that I read & is what got me hooked! At this point in the series I’m super invested in the story & characters, and I always appreciate how it never gets boring or feels repetitive. Of course, some of the storylines are more interesting than others, but I really liked the turn of events in this one. SPOILER ALERT: Especially the fact that Dutch was pretending to be a vegetable, and his mistress was the killer.

Everyone in town is looking forward to the annual Restaurant Association Christmas Dinner, however things take a deadly turn when the town librarian eats a too spicy wing, follows it up with some eggnog, and dies. The librarian had made many enemies over the years, but this looks like a tragic accident. Was it?

It’s always hard to jump into a story, especially one this short, when you don’t know the series regulars. Fortunately, most of them were kept in the background, so I was able to get to know the characters important to this story, which I enjoyed. The plot was good and kept me engaged as I was reading. There are also some delicious sounding recipes. That’s pretty good for a story that’s only around 100 pages.

NOTE: This story was originally released as part of the Eggnog Murder anthology, so if you read it there, there is no reason to get it again.

Death by Eggnog by Lee Hollis takes place in Bar Harbor. Hayley Powell is a food and cocktails columnist and is planning to attend the Restaurant Association Christmas Dinner that is an annual charity event to raise money to provide Christmas presents to needy families. During the dinner, Agatha Farnsworth, the town’s grouchy librarian who has food sensitivities and allergies, begins gasping after taking a bite of a spicy chicken wing and is handed a cup of non-dairy eggnog by Fannie Clark-Van Dam. Agatha immediately breaks out in hives, her body shakes, and she can’t breathe. Fearing her friend, Fannie, will be charged with murder, Hayley sets out to find out what really happened and why. This one kept me guessing until the final reveal.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.

I love this series! You could tell this one was a short story because it played out a little quickly, but I still feel you got enough to make it good. Hayley's life is definitely interesting. I did think they should have added Bruce in there a little more after the murder since it started out with him and Hayley. (Maybe they did and I missed it?) Good story by a great author(s)!
