Oh man. I have no idea how to write this review so I feel like I should apologize just in case it seems to be all over the place. This review will probably have spoilers too so uh yeah enjoy.

Other than all of that, I didn't really like the ending of this book. It didn't wow me. It was just "okay." Overall, it was an okay book that I probably wont ever read again in my entire lifespan.

This author always takes me for a ride. The characters are all a bit broken and the destination is a bit hazy - but the journey is always revealing.

Maddy is a bit of a Pollyanna and fixer but I still felt a kinship with her and I could definitely be good friends with her. She has a caring heart - even to a fault but I loved watching her come to grips with and find herself along this road.

Zack was definitely broken but he knew a good thing when he found it. He had been to hell and back on his journey and it wasn't over yet.

The sex - well it was messy (but isn't life?) - the chemistry between Maddy & Zack - was overwhelming and at the same time comforting. Will say if you have a problem with unprotected sex then this may not be the book for you.

For me it was about two broken people finding their way home to themselves and taking the beginning steps to healing.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this Advanced Readers Copy and received no compensation what so ever.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it.
The reason it only got 4 stars was because of the grammatical errors.
Steam factor 9 stars.

This book ended abruptly and at the time I didn't expect it because my kindle read 11%. The story also had a lot left important. It was a 4 star read until the last couple of pages where it just cut off unexpectedly.

This is actually about a 2 star book for me. The ONLY reason I gave it another star was because the smut in the book was absolutely spectacular!

There wasn't any type of story line. It was just about some prim and proper girl who decided to go on a dating convicts website.

She didn't care at all what he was in there for.

It was all just too much for me. But there was actually nothing going on.

The whole story didn't do it for me. But the smut? That was wonderful. :D

This is the first time I have read a book by this author. Be prepared that the story only goes 8% in the book. She has crammed a lot in the book so you are getting more for your money. There are other stories included. I like this story, it was a good story.

Madeleine aka Maddy was a curvy vet. She loved animals and had a good heart. She was also one that let people run over her. Even had an abusive ex. She knew what it was like to be hit around, so I can see her type going on an inmate dating site. I guess she was lucky. Things could of went a whole lot different for her.

Reading Zack’s story was truly heart breaking. He was a former solider and had seen and done way to much. I do not want to reveal to much but I will say this, I do not feel he belonged in prison. I felt the justice system truly failed him. He had punished his self way to much. He was having a hard time letting go of the past. He felt unworthy of someone as good as Maddy.

We got to know a little about Maddy and Zack’s exs. Maddy’s ex was named Alex. He had some series anger issues. No matter how many times Maddy told him they were not together he did not believe. It was like it did not sink in.

Zack’s ex we only got a small glimpse but it was enough. Her name was Maggie. Reading about her I could see she liked everything to rotate around her, she was manipulative, and loved drama.

I felt sorry that Zach had to spend 2 years away from his mother who truly needed him. We got to see his mother’s every day struggle. She truly is lucky that he was willing to help her out once he was out of prison. He loved his mother and it broke his heart to see the woman he knew all his life gradually checking out of life.

This story will cover about PTSD. It shows a little of the struggle people with PTDS go through. How some people can take advantage of those with the issue and how some can be that helping hand they need.

I loved reading the romance between Maddy and Zack. Maddy needed excitement in her life and in her bedroom. Zack will give her that. Zack needs someone that can understand him. Someone that will give him the wildness he needs and crave and Maddy is more then willing.

This was a good story and glad I got to read it.

Heart of Darkness by Gabi Moore ***** Wow, this book is powerful!
I couldn't put this book down and I highlighted at least a dozen passages as I read it. This is a love story between a strong couple, both grappling with pain & PTSD. It is not for the faint of heart, & it is not perfect. But wow. It is life. A couple powerful passages I highlighted: "There is good in the world, and there is bad. But maybe there's something else too. A third thing: good-bad." And "There is only one question I think you should ask, and that is, do you love yourself when you are around him". This is a great love story, and a thought provoking read. I highly recommend it. Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

" My life was passing me by, and if I wanted to have a fun fling with a hot bad boy from prison, so be it. "

I guess I should lead with: THIS IS NOT A BAD BOY ROMANCE.

There is no bad boy in this story. This is a gimmicky, misleading, boring, superficial story.

The heroine is just... I can't even with the heroine. I like nice heroines, but this one is an idiot. Doesn't want to know why this random man from prison was in prison. Talks about how "bad" and what a "thug" he is in this gimmicky, empty way. It's a joke. This guy is not a "bad boy." An athletic build and tattoos do not a freaking bad boy make.

The hero was lame. So lame. He read like an insecure 18-year-old boy with bursts of "I'm such a hardcore badass!" executed as imagined by an insecure 18-year-old boy.

Her weird ex was a lame and unnecessary add-in. There was more time and development devoted to her animals than her relationship with the hero. No development, no connection, just... nothing.

And for sure no over the top sexiness. The blurb on this book is completely misleading nonsense.

HEART OF DARKNESS by Gabi Moore

Making a friend on the prison date website was never an issue for Maddy because she was curious and the fact that she was never going to meet him on the outside. That is until he gets out. Maddy and Zack's connection is instant and passionate, and they find themselves going to exciting places that neither of them expected to go. But when Zack's past threatens their newly formed relationship, he has to make a difficult decision on whether he can open his heart to Maddy, no matter how dark it is.

This was an interesting read, and a fascinating concept. I loved this story because it brings to light some of the ongoing issues we live with today. The author does a great job of getting us to see it from all sides and how it affects the people themselves. However, there were some discrepancies in the storyline and repetition in the dialogue. Overall this was a captivating and enjoyable read. Love the cover!

Where was the bad boy romance? Love the cover but that's it

Love the cover but that's it. Don't judge a book by iTS cover and blurb is often when Saïd when the cover is a bad one. But this is stunning. And the first novel in this collection is actual ruined it for me to get in the the rest of mixed novels, scenes and one full length book... First story was only 9% of the total. But i am glad i could finish that one.

PSD, brute, beating woman, bad boys romance? but not the main characters those two are just both softies

I almost gave up on this book so many times. The only way i made it through was because it was a shorter read. Maddie signs up of an online dating site where she communicates with cons. That alone says so much about the idiot this chick is. Then he’s some muscle man hunk who finds her chubby, borderline fat appealing??? The author really put an ugly image on Maddie. As the story continues we learn that she’s badly gotten out an abusive relationship only to move on to an ex con! I could keep going with more of the things that aggravated me about this story but I’ll just stop here.

It was overall an interesting read, the genre is usually something I avoid but i'm glad I gave it a chance. Each main character courses an impressive journey, both separately and together, and just trying to make it work, make their lives work.
The story line was real, believable, the author managed perfectly to make the reader understand or relate to the characters and situations perfectly and i can't say the outcome disappointed me.

This was different( bad and good).

Bad and good. You will understand when you read this. I did love the book. I actually wish it was longer. The author did an awesome job helping you see what was happening. Zack poor damaged Zack just needed Maddy NOT Maggie. Maddy poor Maddy needed Zavk NOT Alex. They gave each other exactly what they needed in life. Kindness, roughness, strength, and love.

I was really impressed with this book. It had a wonderful message at its core and wonderful characters. There were several twists, even on with Alex that surprised me. Soldiers often have a harder time coming back tours and this was an excellent example of what often happens, but with a good HEA instead of the normal. It's a great. I volunteered to read this book.

Short

To short and the ending was like wtf. I would like to get emotional invested pls. There was to many questions left to be answered then it ends. It's a full story but these two are not a good match.

Finding a good woman

I totally liked this book. Both Maddy and Zack came with issues to the relationship. But you learn that there is a difference between a good woman and a bad one :) there are also some bonus stories in here, who doesn't love that!

It was a good book but not great. It seemed to be missing something. Something that would've allowed me to connect to the characters and their emotions.

Don't waste your time!!

This book had a lot of useless words! Took forever to get to the point! They spend most of their time in their heads! She is pathetic and weak. He is just as pathetic and weak! Worse book I have read in a while! Don't waste you time!!!

This was an okay read, but IT JUST ENDED. It felt so incomplete. There was no closure. The book ends at 11%.

The hero described the heroine as "all circles and arcs", but I was not sure what to picture the heroine looking as. (Loc 1%)

The heroine connects with the hero through a convict pen pal website. He gets out and they connect. The heroine has a crazy ex who won't take no for an answer. The hero has an ex that was part of the reason he went to jail for 2 years.

Zack is just one of the most complicated endearing book boyfriends I have encountered in a long time -
A retired military vet suffering from PTSD, Zack carries a lot of pain and remorse within him and has accepted that he should be punished for his sins -
Maddie who is an actual vet who hooked up with Zack in an on line chat room- both believing they will never meet in person -they bare their souls to one another -
Fate, with her wicked sense of humor -has other plans for the two
A wonderful story about love, acceptance, and understanding
-There is some violence (possible trigger for some) and explicit sexual content -

**Audio Notes**
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the alternating POV with not only the characters but via the narrators - Zack is just one of the most complicated endearing book boyfriends I have encountered in a long time
- Maddie is a sweet yet explosive little thing - Maddie and Zack meet in an on line chat room- both believing they will never meet in person -they bare their souls to one another -Fate, with her wicked sense of humor has other plans for the two

What do you think the narrator could have done better?
At times the scene and voice of the narrator almost seemed monochrome - lacking the emotions I felt while reading the scene - more the female narrator than the male - possibly just the voice she used for him?

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Maddie encourages Zack to let go and embrace himself completely - assuring him that she would be there no matter what - it was a very emotional and slightly scary scene

This book was a quick read. I really liked Maddy's character because you don't often think of shy, timid women being with rough and tough men like Zack. She obviously had it rough with her last boyfriend so seeing her connect with Zack so quickly was kind of actually kind of sweet. I've read one previous book by Gabi Moore and I was a fan of that one because it was different and unexpected. The main characters in this one are unexpected as well. At least Maddy is. Zack is a bad boy, so he's rough and hard – inside & out. But Maddy is sweet and wholesome – but only in public. In private, when it is just her and Zack, she is almost a completely different person; I don't want to give too much away but there is definite heat in this book – be prepared with something to cool you down ;)
There are some sensitive subjects in this book – PTSD and domestic violence. PTSD is such a big deal in veterans (and non-veterans too, but Zack is a vet so that's why I mentioned them) and is hard to deal with for the person who is struggling with it, as well as anyone they might have relationships with. The author did an awesome job showcasing the struggle that most couples go through whenever there are inner demons on both sides.

Wow! Talk about taking you to the dark side with this story. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Review Copy of this book and I’m still saying WOW! Can you say dysfunctional and steamy? Here we have Maddy right out of an abusive relationship and Zack who is trying not to be blinded by his own past. Yeah, he spent two years in a Correctional Facility, but not for anything you think right off. While trying to build on a relationship that could go down for the count, Maddy is given a different look at what it is for someone who suffers from PTSD….and didn’t know it. What we can all benefit by getting a better understanding of this is not to look at those brave souls who come home changed. Some mainly due to disgust of themselves for what happened during their stretch on the front lines.

I really enjoyed this story since the characters were believable and tortured, but also human. Sometimes it takes another tortured soul to heal another. Zack didn’t think he was salvable, but Maddy showed him he was and I found myself touched by what they both sacrificed to get their HEA.

This was an okay book. The plot was good, the story was good, but it was just good. It wasn't great. I would in no way consider Zack a "bad boy" as the blurb indicates he is. He did go to jail, but mostly for a mistake. In the real world, that never would have earned him two years in jail. He might spend a weekend. In all other aspects, he's a normal man. My main issue with this book was the lack of editing. Either there was no editor, or the editor stopped reading it. There were missing words, extra words, misspelled words ("smelled" NOT "smelt"; "learned" NOT "learnt", and every other variation of using a "t" to replace an "ed" that was in the book).

Also, I had a lot of questions when it was over. What happened with Zack's mother? Was she still alive? Still living on her own? In a nursing facility? And what about Jasper? What happened to him? The ending was very silent on these topics.

‘Heart Of Darkness’ by Gabi Moore was a great read that gave you a really engrossing tale of pain and PTSD. This was an emotional and provocative read that follows two somewhat broken souls struggling with their own demons.

I really enjoyed this book and the characters were believable and you could follow their journey with interest as the flow of the writing carries you along. A realistic story and although dark at times it was a book worth reading. It is a 4 star read for me.

This is an entertaining, steamy and enjoyable read. Both main characters, and their exes, have iissues.

This is a fairly gentle tale of their battles to let go of the past and hopefully have a future together.

There are plenty of hot sex scenes but also lots of relationship building too. The hero and heroine are both well written, believable and 'stay in character' through the story. The dialogue is natural and the narrative flows smoothly. You care about the characters and I found the plot to be very believable.

This is a well written book and whilst, for me, it wasn't a gripping page turner I would happily read more work by this author.

For me it didn't quite hit 5 stars because it didn't really take me on an emotional rollercoaster. This is a book that is value for money though.

I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book.
