"Appointment With ISIL" written by American author Joe Giordano is an excellent, fast paced international contemporary thriller that i thoroughly enjoyed and kept me up well past my bedtime so keen I was to finish it. If you like gritty intriguing thrillers involving the FBI, Russian/Italian mobs or Islamic Terrorists you will absolutely love this book without a doubt.
The author has written a very cleverly plotted book with layer upon layer of interesting connecting storylines that you can see
A simple flirtation will become a hair-raising race against death, secret agendas, black market deals and a possible showdown with a militant terrorist group in a quest to prevent the death and destruction of millions. Maybe next time Anthony Provati will keep his sexual appetite under control or choose more wisely, but who knew the Russian mob boss would discover his attraction to his beautiful and conniving mistress?

Opening with a heartbreaking scene of a mother learning her soldier son has be

A digital copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

What begins as a casual and ephemeral romantic indulgence costs our protagonist Anthoni Provati, almost his life, and definitely his sanity. As destiny shuttles him from one corner of the world to another, the readers are in for a roller-coaster ride of action-packed adventure. The pages race through, at times at a bewildering pace, as Anthoni is grappling with the situation, trying to get out of it alive, and at the

Appointment with ISIL is a fast paced, exciting thriller that takes you around the world in a scheme that will blow your mind. Joe Giordano has written a book that has so many layers, that keeps you guessing and unwilling to put his book down. You have to keep reading to find out what happens next!

Anthony is a fantastic main character – he is tough but not over the top tough, likeable and wants to do what is right. Anthony goes from one bad situation into an even worse situation. He manages to g

Appointment with ISIL has an unusual story line. While ISIL is featured at the very beginning and returns towards the end, Most of the story is set in North America and focuses on Anthony and his problems with the mob. It all began when he flirted with a mob boss' mistress and his troubles grew to epic proportions when she decided he was the one that would help her get away from this vile monster.

Anthony falls in the anti-hero category for me, but just over the line. He's not a bad guy, just a f

Fans of Mr. Giordano’s first novel, BIRDS OF PASSAGE, are sure to enjoy his latest, APPOINTMENT WITH ISIL. This international thriller offers the same narrative pleasures that abound in BIRDS, namely:
• A strong, overarching main plot developed by several supporting sub-plots which are interesting in and of themselves, such as the heist of three Vermeers.
• A multitude of memorable characters, both major and minor, who are intricately related and contribute neatly to the main plot. And reader

Giordano Crafts an Excellent International Thriller in Appointment with ISIL. While I love the intrigue of an international thriller or a political/crime thriller--I often find that they can be a bit drawn out or so overly wordy or ridiculously complex that I struggle to maintain interest. During every step of Provati's journey; however, I felt included and invested in the book. I fell into the settings and the changing plots and into the action quickly and easily from the very first page. Reade ...more

An action-packed thriller, this book is like watching a movie. With a diverse cast of characters, exotic locations and more than one love story, Appointment with ISIL delivers all the suspense of a blockbuster action film in its 300 pages.

After reading Joe Giordano's first book, Birds of Passage, I was eager to read his latest release Appointment with ISIL and I was not disappointed. Although different in genre, Joe Giordano's crisp writing, complex plot and storytelling skills stand out in this book too. His main character Anthony Provati, an American-Italian with family in the Mafia, is a wonderfully flawed character who propels the story forward.

Anthony made his first mistake when he flirted with Russian mobster Malakhov's gir

This Ludlum-esque international thriller stars an Italian-American man, east-coast Anthony Provati. His parts of the fast-paced story are told in first-person narrative, as Anthony manages to get himself into a bad situation that quickly escalates into a horrible situation. Third-person limited narration is used for the scenes without Anthony.

Lots of tough guy stuff here, with punchy dialogue, violence, threats of violence, off-scene sex, mobsters, dirty cops, hot chicks, a psychopath, and some

I was intrigued after only a few pages.
And then...
For awhile I was confused. There are alot of characters making up this storyline.
There is the Russian mob and a few members with their individual backgrounds described to set the pace of their
parts in the plot.
There is the Italian mafia.
There are quite a few characters in the middle east that take part in the plot.
And, the police, the FBI, Anthony and his close friends.
All mix together to form a group all with their own agenda's.

This book gripped me from the start and hung on tight!

The beginning leaves you holding your breath and then plunges you into the world of mobsters – totally unrelated. Or so one thinks.

There are many characters attached to the two main characters and the story line leaves you wondering how everything connects, what will happen, who will end up dead next, and how will it all end up resolved.

In the end, we see all it all connects, but it left me guessing and turning the pages through the entire bo

Appointment with ISIL leads the reader on a colorful journey to the Middle East, linking up with Anthony Provati’s interludes involving Russian, Italian and Columbian crime syndicates. Along the way, author Joe Giordano especially shines as the text cleanly manages transitions between third and first person. Intrigue builds as Provati’s charms ultimately draw him into the consequences of a major heist and the ultimate terror plot. This well traveled jaunt finishes strong, leaving me wondering wh ...more

With a title such as “Appointment with ISIL,” the reader knows Anthony Provati will meet up with the terrorist organization that now controls sections of the Middle East and Africa.
Yet, how he gets there, both literally and figuratively, in the way of plots, subplots and characters, is where Joseph Giordano’s latest novel shines page after thrilling page.
The novel begins with Provati playing piano at a bar in the West Village when suddenly in
