Imperfect Love Kindle World Novella Reviews at Of Pens and Pages.

Battle of the Sexes was my favorite novella in the Imperfect Love Kindle World novellas! Well-written, funny, and sexy. The characters had great chemistry and banter, and the story had a wonderful pace. Some novellas tend to feel rushed, but I believe this one was just right.

We fight it out or f*k it out. Your choice.”

I loved both of the characters. Amity is strong, confident, and smart, but she hasn’t always been that way. Sometimes her insecurities still come out. Still, she doesn’t let Carver scare her, and she bites back whenever he tries to intimidate and/or flirt with her. Carver is a total alpha—powerful, in control, and oozing with sexual appeal. He’s cocky, but no one can deny his passion and dedication to the company. He’s always had a soft spot for Amity, and even after years apart, it’s still there even now that she’s considered his competition.

It was a hoot watching them go head-to-head to win the CEO position, but it was even better seeing them get along and give in to their mutual attraction. There was also a little drama to keep the readers invested.

This was my first Adriana Locke book (gasp!), but it definitely won’t be my last.

Tropes: Childhood Friends/Enemies, Office Romance, Enemies to Lovers
POV: Dual, First POV

The chemistry between Carver and Amity sizzles through the pages of this book. I liked that they were childhood friends/enemies, so it gave a lot of depth to their relationship. In fact this book had me guessing of the outcome right until the end. The story is fun, sweet, touching, hilariously cute! The relationship between the H and h is entertaining, believable and goes through a natural transition that never feels forced. The sarcasm between them is really entertaining, the drama is good. There is no predictability and this just adds to the story’s romantic charm. Hot sex, great banter/interactions and a wonderful pace. I really loved it!

OMG! I can NEVER get enough of Adriana Locke's romances! She makes me laugh, pulls on my heartstrings, and makes me blush with every single new release she puts out to the world. With BATTLE OF THE SEXES she brings us a quick, sexy, and entertaining romance that will leave you with a HUGE GRIN on your face. These characters were AMAZING together, and I just loved Ms. Locke's brand of enemies-to-lovers romance. She definitely made me want MORE!

BATTLE OF THE SEXES is part of Kendall Ryan's IMPERFECT LOVE KINDLE WORLD, where Ms. Ryan partners with nine bestselling authors to give us brand new novellas that are hilarious, sexy, and just flat-out enticing! I love love love this idea, because readers can explore popular romance tropes that will broaden their horizons. These are stories where you will absolutely fall in LOVE with LOVE and Ms. Locke gives us all that and more with Carver and Amity's story.

"I heard we are friends now."

"I thought that was a fair assessment since I've had your pussy in my mouth."

Oh yeah, my friends, it gets dirty up in here and I freaking LOVED IT! Ms. Locke is an author that is just killing it in the romance genre, giving her readers everything they could ever want in a perfect romance. Her sassiness shines through to her writing, her characters, and the insane and hilarious dialogue all throughout. This might have been a novella, but it was packed full of sexy goodness! Enemies-to-lovers has to be one of my favorite romance tropes, because the passion just shines through, you know? It's heated. It's sensual. It's just PERFECTION. I loved and adored every second of their story!

4.5 'I dare you' Stars!

I can't believe this is my first time reading anything by Adriana Locke! Man, I just fell in love! I know many of my blogger friends love this woman's writing and now I understand why. Battle of the Sexes was the perfect way to "meet" and fall in love with Locke's creations.

This short story was entertaining, funny, sexy as hell and it even got really emotional towards the end. It had everything that I enjoy in a good quick love story! I can't wait to read more of Adriana's books (I heard many great things about her Landry Family series!). So, if you are a newbie like me, this novella is the perfect way to start reading this author's works. Highly recommend!

RATING: 3 stars to Battle of the Sexes ★ ★ ★

Next on my short story spree? Adriana Locke's Battle of the Sexes. Two business-oriented protagonists are in the running for the CEO position of their parents' co-founded and co-built company. Carver is too busy dreaming about finally stepping into the role of CEO of Jones and Gallum. Ready to take the role, make it his own and slip it on like a finely-pressed suit tailored just for him. When he finds out he's not the only one in line for the newly-available role, he's a ring above outraged that his hard work, commitment and career trajectory is threatened by a recommendation that feels like a bolt from the blue. Amity's no less an equal to anyone within office space though, and just because she's been absent from her father's company, doesn't mean she's without an utterly impressive portfolio of her own. And she's not just armed with the savvy, the smarts, the maturity and the acuity. She's also still sporting a slight from their shared past, where her now-opposition might've once even been something close to a friend in their formative years together. It starts with a battle, laced through with lust and evens through with a kindred boardroom settlement more intimate than ice cold.

Similar to Adriana Locke's Restraint, the characters in Battle of the Sexes present with similar traits and personalities, more specific to Amity and second-act Carver. There's a sensible maturity that's traited to the protagonists (though this shows itself later in Carver), which sees them suitable to be in the professional field they're in. Carver's the more cocksure, confident, dapper and quick to throw in a bawdy quip. Amity's equally confident, level-headed, sharp-tongued when faced with her hero and owns her place in an office. But there's also the initiation (which doubles as a reunion) with neither of them willing to give an inch or back down from a position they both want. And to add another layer into the enemies vibe, there's a history of many years shared, which was ruined by a teenaged situation that broke Amity's heart and her trust going forward in life. Below the battle is really the emotional component of Amity's childhood as the group reject. After some bickering to and fro, challenging snubs, thorny conversations and sexual tension, Carver does get to the heart of the issue and pulls from the sincerity within (rather than the obnoxiousness) to apologise in a way that settles the struggle.

The energy of the enemies turning to lovers was something I appreciated but didn't always enjoy. The development is interesting and intimate, albeit still rushed and admittedly incomplete, but still fairly solid for a standalone short story. Even as the added backstory levels up the Intrigue. Amity definitely enters as a strong protagonist with incredible assets, and yet she's vulnerable enough to find resonant. Where she once slips up during a tipsy night and invites Carver (whom she still feels unresolved with) for some nocturnal fun felt poorly judged when a big part of her arc revolves around past pain caused by him. Carver's response to that situation did make him grow in my estimations though, and continues to grow when he doesn't use a certain later situation - that might've guaranteed his chances - against her. There's also the comparison of a heroine who's sacrificed a lot of her personal life to feed her career aspirations and yet Carver - who shares the same professional field as her with the same working demands - admits to having as much as a successful personal life as a professional one, even though he spends a lot more than just his office hours in the office. If his dedication to the company has him not comfortably familiar with his own apartment, I'm confused about the believability in that. Whether Amity's reluctant to having a personal life doesn't really explain why she can't have one. Especially when Carver can.

I really enjoyed the presence of the history brought into the mix. I wouldn't say that Amity and Carver were quite friends growing up, but they spent a lot of their younger years within each others' company because their parents maintained a friendship. So there was a lot of familiarity, close proximity and sharing In joint memories. Amity more or less saw herself as the black sheep and carried that story into her adulthood. Carver seemed quite immature and naïve about the situation (which I'm putting down to boyhood), dismissive of the distance she'd established between them after she felt humiliated enough to change schools. I did like the gist of the general story, and the backstory was an added reflection that was nice to travel back to for context to provide some pillars of added recognition. But while the historical element makes this interesting, I wouldn't say that Battle of the Sexes was an entirely engageable read. Similar to Locke's Restraint though, the realistic mood of the story strikes a convincing realist chord.

The biggest underwhelm for me was an ending that doesn't just dabble in but yields to an oversight. While neither Amity or Carver backed down from the 'battle' even after forming an intimacy with each other (which was something I really liked), that the author chose to direct what developed into a fair battle into one where a forfeit was involved was disappointing. The competitive angle for the grand seat ends with the heroine making a sacrifice and ceding an opportunity even though she did seem comfortable and committed to her place in the running. The truth is, I can understand the rationale because Amity does seem a bit more 'elsewhere', with her heart set more on her life in California if her thoughts are suggestive enough (even though that’s not where she ends up), but the route to 'victory' was something of a let down. Who I saw as a fierce career woman easily relinquishes an end goal. So while I did find that the resolution wasn’t particularly up to snuff, I still think that this novella is a more on the solid side of successes compared to the ones I have read.

There are a few holes and gaps in places and there was some confusion, but overall, Battle of the Sexes is a well-grounded office romance short story with realist-minded protagonists with something to challenge, something to overcome and something to gain. In the spirit of encouraging the theme of second chances there's some heat, some sweet, some ice and spice. And a familiar history for some roots. Prepare for something confidently Adriana Locke if you're a fan of her work.

Extra Thoughts:

1) There is some misogyny in the beginning of the book by way of Carver's attitude, especially when he meets Amity for the first time on page. Nothing extreme, but it's there. He also (once) calls her the five lettered 'b' word for readers (like myself) who don't always like being subjected to heroine name calling. When I wasn't sure how to feel about Carver to begin with, that particular name calling moment might've made me grimace...

2) Some technical errors did sometimes disrupt the story for me.

“We fight it out or fuck it out. Your choice.”

THIS.NOVELLA.IS.A.MUST.READ! I devoured it cover to cover and I am loving everything Carver and Amity! From the witty banters to the hot battles in the board room and bedroom. This was just what I needed! A refreshing read yet will leave you hot and bothered yet with a heart full of love and a wide grin!

Battle Of The Sexes is one hell of an entertaining read that captured my heart and made me crave Adriana Locke's writing. Hell, I may even want to plead Adriana to make this a full lenght book because this novella was just so much fun and enjoyable to read. I am addicted to Carver and Amity even with just that short ride I had with them in their battle in the boardroom and bedroom. She again nailed it and really, I am here hoping this will end as a full lenght book.(Maybe in the near future? I hope so...)

As always, Adriana managed to pull off a short novella that will make you fall in love in no time. I sure did and if I could only sell my right arm just to have more of the I would. I just love the way these charaters were portrayed through Adriana Locke's flawless writing. The dynamics of the characters were perfect as they balance each other out. I was totally smitten with them. With Carver's thoughtful, dirty mind and cocky nature then Amity's sass and fierceness that would last her a lifetime, I was ALL IN. It maybe a short read but it sure got lots of feels. No angst though but just swoony and heart warming feels spiced up with just the right amount of charm, heat and sweetnes.

Another awesome read! Kudos!

If Emma Chase's "Appealed" and Sally Thorne’s "The Hating Game" had a child....this book might be it.
It lacks sparks and their angst factor though.
I didn't hate it but, for the reasons above, I wasn't particularly impressed with the story.

descriptionLet me show you something tonight.”
“Show me what?”
“Tonight, trust me. Trust me enough to put yourself in my hands and let me show you how I feel.”
“Carver . . .”
“Just,” he says, placing a kiss on my lips, “tonight.”
“Okay.”

I NEED THIS AS A FULL-LENGTH NOVEL! Period.

Adriana is one of the few authors that I will one-click (or sign up for an ARC) without looking.
I mean, she can say I have a new book coming out and it is on Goodreads, but it doesn't have any details — no title, no publishing date, no synopsis — and it will be on my TBR Pile.
It's simple. She writes. I read. I review.

Battle of the Sexes was exactly all of the above and it is with such sweet- sweet joy that I have to say, I LOVED it! For a novella, there were quite a few things going on, but not so many that it would feel cramped, and by the end, all of it was tied up with a pretty little bow.

Amity Gallum is FANTASTIC! And she reminds me a bit of Kari (The Perception) with the mix of fierceness and vulnerability. But she is by far, Adriana's alpha-ist alpha female (Did that make sense? Lol!)

Carver Jones... Phew! Did anyone order an alpha male who oozes charm, has killer arms and smile that will melt you? Dayuuuuum! Carver. Carver. Carver. You were just awesomesauce! Carver reminded me so much of Cane (The Exception) and little of Lincoln (Swing) and Max (The Perception) and let me tell you that this is one hell of a combination to have in a guy. Trust me. I've read about three, I know what I am talking about.

This novella is the perfect little thing if you are looking to read something short in between books. And it is Adriana, of course, it comes recommended! Don't even have to ask!

How can this be just a novella? I can't. Battle of the Sexes was so incredibly good! Adriana Locke truly has this special way of sucking you into a story, making you feel so attached to the characters and just go along the ride, no matter what book she writes. I mean, the way she wrote this, I still can't believe how she was able to build a foundation like this, then pack so much feels, so much bantering and bickering between Amity and Carver in just so many words. I'm really kind of blown away right now.

The premise of the story was amazing. It certainly held magic for the build up of what was to come. Everything just came perfectly together and I actually did not feel rushed reading this at all. It was what I was worried about at first, knowing how short it will be. But again, Adriana proves me dead wrong. You will absolutely LOVE Amity and Carver. The chemistry, the heat and sexual tension—inside and out of the bedroom OR the boardroom—and even the humor, were all blended so well within the tale.

Battle of the Sexes was fierce and witty and hot and just... FUN. I may have wanted so much more after that ending, but I was happy. I can't even stop smiling, remembering how these two ended up together. Regardless if it's a novella, this is a definite MUST READ, yet again, from Adriana Locke! You want your hands on this baby. Trust me. Go and get sexed with Amity and Carver!

Let's face it, an alpha male always draws us to read a book or series, right? Well, there is no denying that Carver is a SEXY, COCKY, Alpha male. But, what drew me to this book was something a little different, or should I say someone, Amity Gallum. Amity, is THE definition of Alpha Female. Adriana took her character to a different level and she is, in my opinion, one of Adriana's most fun female characters to read. Now, put Carver & Amity together and you have a book that is Amazing, FUN to read and has so much electricity, you do NOT want it to end.

This book came out at a perfect time...if you are looking for a good book to take to the beach, take this one with you! I promise, you won't regret it.

Holy cow was this good! Again I'm just not a huge fan of novellas but wow wow wow!! Carver and Amity are the best. I found myself completely immersed in this read which I think speaks volumes. There is a history to these characters which allows for a quicker pace. The situation these two are in and the way they connect is sooooo good! And I really wasn't expecting but this got a little feely toward the end. Color me surprised when I actually shed tears while reading a NOVELLA! This is a charming story with a sweet ending!

Finding this one for free on Goodreads by chance,i decided to make good use of the author’s generosity.
And i’m glad i did!
It’s a quick read,but still a well developed story,with enough background.

Amity and Carver have a history, and when Amity’s father steps down from his company, that history stands in the way.
Because, while Carver has been part of said company, and expects to take his place as CEO,Amity’s father asks the board to consider her instead.
Imagine how he feels.....to be by-passed by a woman, one that has no knowledge what-so-ever about the business? Him?
No way!
But once they meet again, and he gets an idea of the kind of person she has become?
Even more so,when he starts to understand his part in how she became that person?
Now that makes him think again......and slowly his attitude towards her starts to change.

Amity is ready for the battle of her life.
Knowing her father thinks she is more than good enough to take his place, she’s done her home-work.
Knowing her advisary, she’s ready to prove she’s the better person for the job.
Ready to show him she’s not the shy, geeky girl he made fun of anymore.
But when he shows a different side,a kinder, more serious side.....now that makes her think again.

Short,but sweet,i enjoyed this story a lot.
Thank you,Adriana Locke!

PDL's Rating: 4 'Battle' Punches

I typically do not read novellas unless it's one to supplement a series but why the heck not since this is by this author? Battle of the Sexes is a quick fun, sexy read. If you are looking for a fun in between read when you do not have much time on your hand, let Battle of the Sexes be it.

To sum up this little read - it was short, sweet, yet full of sexual tension that is pretty satisfying once we... I mean, once THE characters get what they want - LOL.

This was a fun and sexy enemies to lovers novella! It had all the wit, humor, and steam that I love so much about all of Adriana Locke's books. I really enjoyed the playful innuendo and the build up of sexual tension between Amity and Carver. Although they were both intelligent and driven, they both also had underlying vulnerabilities and fears that influenced their lives. I definitely wished this was longer and was sad to say goodbye to these characters. The epilogue was perfectly sweet and left me grinning, but I did feel that the overall resolution was a little too convenient and slightly out of character. Overall, this was an entertaining and quick read!

Carver and Amity had great potential and decent chemistry. Unfortunately, it never totally worked for me. It wasn't bad, not at all, it just was never quite what I was hoping for.

The idea that they were competing for the position of CEO, well, that fell a little flat for me, as I never really believed there was realistically much competition and I was not at all surprised by the resolution of this.

And, that really summed up the book for me, there was not much that was a surprise. Their relationship was, well, not a surprise and it progressed pretty much as I was expecting.

This was a shorter novella and in the Kindle Worlds, so I know it was not going to be as developed as a longer story, but I felt that the parts that were covered were not quite covered as well as I would have liked.

Again, not bad, it just felt like the story glossed over the surface without really touching down in the relationship, and the drama, that should have existed with Carver and Amity.

I do recommend this book, but as a light read and not really the "battle" that you are expecting.

Title: Battle Of The Sexes
Author: Adrianna Locke

4 unexpected stars

I don't think i can say it often - this batch of Kindle World novellas surprised me. I wasn't expecting to enjoy them as much as i did, especially from authors that I've never read from before. Adriana Locke's Battle Of The Sexes made me laugh more than once when it came to Amity and Carver's back and forth when they reconnected almost ten years later. Both are vying for the same position at their fathers' family business but they each have different views as to the future of the business. Their battles made me laugh, but i absolutely loved seeing them succumb to their feelings for one another. It was the quick read that i needed until i found my next read and i'm more than happy that i did read it since it was entertaining.

Quick little novella and for me not being a fan of the insta-love story this was lacking.

Carver Jones & Amity Callum were childhood friends till a dare humiliated Amity and changed their friendship. Now she is back in NY to fight for the CEO position vs Carver for their parents company. She hates him one page, she is in bed with him the next and than the ending left so much to be desired, personally I didn't like the ending.

I think made into a full novel with a lot more fighting and attraction this could of been a hit novel. Just one guys opinion.

Sweet. Fun. Hot. Quick.

This entire series of novellas can be summed up that way, but of course this author puts a bit of past and heart, that she always does so well, in this story. I love that the love interests have a bit of history, and you actually as the reader can empathize with Amity and why she has animosity toward Carver. I also like that Carver was a bit of a butt in the past, but you can also see his side of things.

All in all this is a great read. Reluctant romance, office romance, enemies to lovers.. all smushed into one. Great read!

As much as I really enjoyed the previous books in this series, this one could be listed as an Ok read.

Everything was going great with the battle of wills the banter and the hating game until it wasn't.

The story was rushed to an end and the change from haters to lovers wasn't convincing at all. And I must admit that the epilogue unfortunately killed my vide and was responsible for the 3 stars rating.

Carver sure thinks he's all that and a bag of chips, "...he smiles at me so devilishly that even though I don’t want to react, I shiver. “If you’d like to be reintroduced to my abilities, the closet is over there, sweetheart.” Carver likes to give his woman options, “we fight it out or eff it out. Your choice.” I liked this novella Carver could be on determined man.

Adriana Locke is one of my go-to authors and I’m really glad I went to Battle of the Sexes. Can this woman write a bad book? So many conflicts woven in humor with some sexy mixed in. Yeah. It’s a great read.
Carver and Amity have known each other a long time. They may have been going their own way for a while, but circumstances bring them back into each other’s lives. They are childhood friends who go from competitors for what both of them have been working for their entire life to lovers. There’s a whole lot jam packed into this novella.
Adriana Locke has again delivered a big storyline in a great novella.

***AVAILABLE NOW - FULL REVIEW***

4 CEO Crowns

Adriana Locke delivers a steamy novella packed to the brim with banter and heat in the boardroom and the bedroom.

Carver and and Amity have been pitted against each other for the CEO position of their fathers' company. Their love/hate relationship starts long before this, and as soon as they are together again the tension and banter reign supreme. Through their words, readers feel the hurt and desire from these two.

I enjoyed the direction Adriana Locke took this story. There is the banter and two people vying for one job, but the expected conflict isn't there and the outcome is also one I didn't see coming. I enjoyed the unexpected plot development.

Adriana Locke really excels in the world of banter and love/hate relationships. She achieves the delicate balance of these two conflicting emotions, creating interesting and enjoyable romances.

Remember the Hitched series and how they did a spin-off in the Kindle Worlds called Imperfect Love. Battle of the Sexes by Adriana Locke was one of those spin-offs. Carver Jones works for his family's advertising business Jones and Gallum. Carver can't believe his chance to finally move up to the big league is finally here as the Old Man Gallum is retiring and it makes sense for a Jones to be CEO as his surname is half of the sign for the company. That is until Gallum announces that he will be passing his reins to his daughter Amity Gallum. Now Carver and Amity will fight for the position as CEO, and the fight will be dirty as neither will stand down and roll over like a good dog. What will happen though when the lines of enemies get crossed, and they start to move more into the area of enemies to lovers? I loved this book as it was good to reconnect to other characters like Noah and Olivia and for them to give their advice to Carver and Amity as it is similar to what they went through in part. Needing a quick romance novella to devour, then Battle of the Sexes is the read for you.
