Brenna McMurtrey is having a bad day, at least she hopes it is just a bad day. She was almost run over while out jogging and was saved from serious injury by her grumpy neighbor. Although she has seen her neighbor over the past year, she has never had contact with him. Now her neighbor seems to be popping up everywhere. Sgt. Ryder Bronson is her neighbor and Brenna does not know that he was with her husband, Kenny, in Afghanistan when Kenny was killed by enemy forces. As he lay dying, Kenny aske ...more

What an inspiring, uplifting story. The beginning sets the stage with some suspense, a lot of guilt, throw in some danger and the cherry on top, an intimately written story of love. Diane brings the characters to life with real emotions of grief, love and hope.

For the last two years, Brenna has been grieving her late husband. A soldier who didn't come home the way he left. The grieving process has drained her physically and emotionally. When she

Recommends it for: romance readers who like authentic worlds and characters with integrity
Brennaa McMurtrey is a self-sufficient, capable woman. She's had to be. As a military wife, she's had to solve her problems by herself. But when her husband doesn't come home from deployment to Iraq, she faces a problem she's not equipped to solve: a lifetime of solitude and loneliness because she believes she can't ever love again.

Still, she's practical. After a year and a half of widowhood, she forces herself to resume "normal" life again—an immediately finds herself in abnormal situations. A

I really enjoyed this book and there were a few twists and turns that kept me completely involved in the story.

I liked Ryder but completely understood why he felt so guilty about Kenny's death and why he felt like he couldn't get involved with Brenna. He felt like he should suffer for his actions. He had so much guilt inside him yet he would do anything he could to make sure Brenna was safe.

Brenna was an awesome character as she was so independent and it almost got her in so much trouble! She h

Sgt. Ryder Bronson blames his own actions for the death of Kenny McMurtrey, one of his best friends and fellow soldiers. As Kenny is dying he asks him to promise to take care of his wife Brenna from a possible upcoming scandal.

Brenna McMurtrey is trying to piece her life back together after the death of her husband. Before he died he sent her a flash drive that information regarding a police shooting that he believes was covered up.

Soon it is apparent that Brenna's life is in danger and Ryder k

Brenna’s husband Kenny is killed in combat while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan but as he took his last breath his only concern was for her at home.
I wondered if what he was asking his friend Ryder to undertake was really necessary but as the book progressed it soon became apparent that Kenny had good cause to ask Ryder to watch out for Brenna.
Brenna and Ryder were friends, they shared a lot and it obvious that they really liked each other but their connection was based on something more than

I am in love with this story. The story of a soldier, Ryder Bronson, keeping a promise to his best friend Kenny’s dying words. To keep his wife safe back in their hometown. Safe from a dirty secret involving the police that could place Brenna in harm.

Brenna is devastated by the death of her longtime love Kenny. But after 16 months she is ready to start moving on with her life. When strange things start to happen to her, her neighbor, Grumpy Neighbor,

I have to say I really enjoyed the suspense aspect of this novel. A corrupt police department, files from a deceased husband, suspicious cars.... talk about being on the edge of your seat! I love a good mystery and it's rare to find one that has a well balance romance to it without being too much but this one came across nicely done.

Ryder made a promise to Brenna's husband before he died that he would take care of her and look after her. Now he just has to do it without letting his heart get in

With this one I got everything I want in a story from the get go. I also have not read this author before so this was refreshing. Ryder makes a promise to a dying man whom is also his friend. Brenna only knows him at first as grumpy neighbor but things will have a way of changing when peculiar events cause him to start being more active on his promise. As it happens too there is something someone is after because dirty deeds are gonna come undone. As you are sucked into the drama and danger coul ...more

Can I give this book 10 stars? What a wonderfully suspensful, heartbreaking, anger involking, love story! The story was very well written with very well developed and complicated characters. They will pull in, pick you up and turn you every which way but loose. They are strong willed, honorable and they are in love, even if one of them believes they are not what the other deserves and that they deserve better.

Great read and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Wow did I get swept away with Brenna and Ryder! Solitary Man is an enthralling, suspenseful, romance.

Brenna, a military widow, is in grave danger. She's tough, very strong willed, and stubborn to a fault. She's more levelheaded than most. Not knowing who to trust, she relies on her Grumpy Neighbor, albeit, very unwillingly.

Ryder is the strong, silent type. His determination and loyalty is swoon-worthy. The focus and attentive nature, while battling his own demons makes you fall in love.

After thoroughly enjoying Shot Through the Heart, I was excited to read an advance copy of Diane Benefiel's latest romantic suspense. In Solitary Man, she's written another nail-biting page-turner that will keep readers up late into the night to see what happens next.

After more than a year of grieving for her husband, Brenna McMurtry is ready to move on with her life. After all, Kenny would want her to find happiness again. But something or someone seems to have it out for her. If it weren't fo

Growing up in Southern California, Diane Benefiel has been an avid reader all of her life. She has enjoyed a wide range of genres, from westerns to fantasy to mysteries, but romance has always been a favorite element. She likes writing romantic suspense because she can put the hero and heroine in all sorts of predicaments that they will have to work together to overcome. Check out her website at h ...more
