Anybody else felt like Kijima looks like Jean and Kazumi like Levi? Anyone or is it just me?
Moving on, I have come across this yaoi many times and I knew there is a adaptation as well. So finally I decided to watch the adaptation but before that I had to read the book. I avoided this yaoi because of that title and cover because I thought this is gonna be a hardcore yaoi without any plot but I was wrong.
It was such a beautiful, heartfelt and inspiring manga. Inspiring as in how Kijima found his inspiration in Kazumi and started writing what he wants to write again. Loved how Kazumi slowly fell in love with Kijima.
The story was slow at first but that last chapter saved it especially the epilogue. I loved how there relationship is treated being cute and sexy at the same time.
Kijima *lying uncle* was such a headache sometimes with his lying and bullshit but I fell in love with him after I read the epilogue.
Kazumi *hands down* is cute with his innocent face and dirty mind.
Oh wow, this one exceeded my expectation. I definitely had quite high expectation from the blurb, and story about novelist/mangaka/illustrator/librarian is always my favorite, you could say it's like one of my favorite kinks. I have to say, after reading a meh PWP, it truly feels good if you finally found one with solid plot inside. This one is quite original, realistic, mature, sexy, tantalizing (with its slow burn sexual tension) yet funny at the same time. And this one is clean from rape, dub-con, fetishes, BDSM, dark angst, etc. My favorite scene is the ending scene when the novelist said the reason why he never called him with cellphone is because he loves how the college student writes in his love letters, meanwhile the student said he loves how the novelist speaks. I think it's very romantic to end it like that. But I'm not satisfied with one volume, this should be made into a series. :)
The name just makes you think of it as a hardcore yaoi with no plot but seriously the story is nothing like that. I would watch the adaptation later on.
Hi, I reviewed this in a blog before, but I'm rereading and reviewing it here too because I just recently found out there's a 3rd book in this series and a movie also came out? I'm so out of touch with the world of commercial BL...
Back in the day, I watched Ghostwriter (starring Nakatani Miki as the popular novelist Tono Risa) and thought 'Wouldn't this be great if they were lesbians?' (It was unfortunately not that kind of story even if Risa and Yuki's relationship is the most important in the show). Anyway! When I heard about the ポルノグラファー live action and saw the poster, I desperately wished it was the gay Ghostwriter of my dreams. Obviously, the most important here is that the Pornographer has to be a writer, not a mangaka or a movie person. And he is.
Marukido Maki delivered on everything I wanted and then some.
This series is a lot more literary than the BL manga I usually read (I'm a simple person who is barely literate), and that's because Kijima Rio has his roots in high brow literature, despite making a living out of writing porn novels with BDSM elements.
His preference for analog ways of doing things (he writes his manuscripts by hand, which is what landed Kuzumi in this mess in the first place) also adds to the overall mood of the story: there are records, books, no TV. Kijima Rio is like a man out of time, an enigma. And that's part of his charm, aside from the way he looks like some respectable literary writer dictating the filthiest descriptions of sex at Kuzumi (and actually acting like a bastard). Everything in this manga feels like it's been tailor fit to push the happy buttons in my brains.
Which is good because this story is also about what makes things erotic. Marukido Maki has an excellent feel for it: the sensuality in Kijima that draws Kuzumi in, Kuzumi's perverted daydreams, as well as the actual novels Kijima himself writes make full use of tropes and imagery that are the tools of trade of erotica.
The art style and pacing are solid, the humour works really well, and I'm just obsessed with how good this is.
An erotic novelist and a college student. What will transpire when the latter is forced to take down sexually-explicit dictation?
Terasa seperti dipaksakan. Ditambah pula rentang waktu perpisahan-dan-pertemuan kembali Kijima & Kusumi gap-nya terasa lumayan, terlepas diketahui keduanya tetap berhubungan meski hanya sebatas surat menyurat. Namun untuk ukuran short story, kelemahan yg disebutkan diatas tidak terlalu terasa mendominasi sehingga para pembaca masih bisa menikmati sampai2 tanpa kita sadari berucap : "I want there to be more chapter. i want more, GIVE ME MOREEEE......"😁
4🌠untuk karya pertama dari Marukido Maki. PS : nice cover komik, btw.
Pornographer is an interesting take on the manga about a novelist trying to find their spark again and this spark being ignited by a run in with an unsuspecting young man. The story evolves from mere fun and games with Harukio writing everything that the novelist Kijimi says while he recuperates from a freak accident. What initially starts as light-hearted teasing over Haruhiko’s innocence at the terms and plots in erotica, evolves into something akin to a crush and love and feelings. Overall, it is a fantastic and emotional experience with the highs and lo’s of friendship turned lover.
I do wish the ending was a bit better though as it kind of just leaves things to the imagination with the relationship and the short epilogue doesn’t really help.
Overall, was a fun experience and the art style is great. Hope the writer does more, it was a fantastic debut BL fiction.
After watching the live action drama a couple of years ago, and really enjoying it, I've always wanted to give the manga a read. However, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would (I was expecting it to get at least 4 stars). I think I was hoping for the romance to be developed more than it was, instead most of the focus was just on the spicy scenes, and while they were well executed, I think the impact would've been stronger if we had more time to connect with the leads. That final ending scene was everything though, it still fills my heart with so much glee.
College student accidentally hit a Novelist with his bike and has his arm fractured, he has no money to pay him for the harm he made but the Novelist agreed and instead of paying, making the college student his Assistant for the Novel he was about to Publish which is a Porn Novel, so far so on the College student developed feelings..
Has drama, and it's really modern, this manga has a Live-action.
Love the romance, I thought it would be boring but reading it until the end was giving me affection, I was a surprised about the twist.
Love the editor of the novelist lol.
I highly recommend to those who are more into its romance development, make sure to watch the live action too!
Just to clear the air: "Pornographer" is a manga about a college kid (main character) and a period he spent with an erotic romance writer (male lead). It is not about "porn" as is typically thought of in the US (explicit videos). Not that there is anything wrong with porn and other sex work, or smutty manga! This manga just isn't about that, though there are a few spicy moments. It's a surprisingly sophisticated gay love story with lovely art. The male lead who we see through the eyes of the main character is a complex and unique person who isn't easily defined or judged. The story was surprisingly quiet and intimate, kind of like an slow jazz classic. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed this read a lot more than I originally thought I would. It was an interesting concept about an erotic "adult" novelist who ends up hiring the guy who injured his writing hand to write his next work for him. Thus, beginning an unlikely bond between the two characters.
Though, I do find the conflict was very abrupt. That it almost came out of nowhere, but at the same time I felt for the characters and how they dealt with the it.
More like 2.5. The first part was good and a bit mysterious but the last part was MEH and I kinda hated the ending. It feels like the mangaka was rushed or didn't know how to end it.
I've read it in order to decide if I should watch the dorama or not (I will).
Liked the concept and it was pretty funny at times, I just think it got a little jumbled and confusing in the middle. The twist kind of threw me off because I feel like it wasn't explained enough. Also I didn't like how abruptly the epilogue ended. I just wish this was better.
