A couple of weeks ago, Megan appeared on my blog on a blog tour, promoting the paperback of her book. Since then I've read it, and here's the review.

The Island of Lost Forevers is the first book in the Mystical Island Trilogy, about a mysterious island that appears off the coast of San Francisco. No-one knows where it has come from, or how long it will remain.
Catilen and Damian, the main characters, are both practitioners of magic, and work together in the local university. They decide to try t

This book was rather different... which was both good and bad. I enjoyed the fact that this wasn't like any other story I've read, and I enjoyed many of the elements it included... but it was hard to buy into the story. It some ways, it was just a bit too "out there" for me.

My usual "go to" is along the lines of epic fantasy, dystopian, or fairytale twists. This was as if all of those came together and birthed a super child! The Characters were not only well developed but believable and admiring! Although the first bit was on the slow side I recommend powering through it because once you do and it starts picking up you are hooked. It is definitely not an instant satisfaction book you have to work for it. Every detail is complete and you can build a replica of the w ...more

The main characters are well developed. I found Catilen competent, relatable, and having agency throughout while still having her flaws. I found Damian to be slightly more generic at the start but I really loved his dynamic with Catilen and thought he grew well through the story. I also really liked the set up between the three main characters. It was refreshing to have something different than a boring love triangle.

I found the magic/k to be well written and believable. In too many stories it’s

I don't normally read stories that take place in a modern setting, but the fantasy twist to this one made me curious to see what was between the covers. I wasn't disappointed! It's a good, solid story, with well-shaped characters.

One of my favorite aspects was how the subject of magic was approached, connecting the traditional fantasy sort to the types of mysticism we hear about in our modern world. The authors do a great job of making those concepts accessible by people who aren't familiar with

I have to say, I had a slow start getting into this book, but once I was in a few chapters, I was hooked.

Without giving any of the story away; If you love the mystical, and perhaps enjoy working your own magic(k) in this world, you may enjoy this read.

I loved the authors' descriptive style throughout the book. It was grounded very much in a reality that any that walk a magickal path will recognize.

If you are a fan of fantasy, this is an easy, yet pensive, and enjoyable read.

This imaginative fantasy has well-drawn characters with a twisty plot which becomes much more intense than the cover might indicate and compelled me to finish the story to find out what happened to the two likeable main characters.

Island of Lost Forevers is about Catlin and Damian, two friends who have a deep love of magic(k). Catlin is wiccan and Damian follows the arts of Magic. When a strange island randomly appears in San Fransisco, they decide to go check it out. Damian is hoping that the island follows ley lines, an invisible track of power that go between dimensions. When they get to the island they are greeted by the eerily cheery Sentomoru. The entire story you get the feeling that something is wrong, that things ...more

Actual rating is probably 3.5 stars.

This was such a fun read! I absolutely loved the concept. It reminded me of Indiana Jones, especially at first. Only, this time there's magic too, which makes it even more awesome! Such a cool story.

It took me a bit to get into the book. I feel like the beginning move a bit slow and there seemed to be a lot of repeating of ideas and thoughts. But once the story got going, I found myself getting wrapped up in this world.

I love, love, LOVED this book! There are so many dynamics between the characters that really made their relationship so much better. For one they both practice magic but Catilan is Pagan so she practices the religious aspect of magick and Damian practices the physical form of magic. They are also very good friends who later develop a strong romantic relationship that makes you love them even more. The descriptions are beautiful and Cutler really has a way with words that makes you want to keep r ...more
