Excellent book in all respects. Focuses on plantation culture and economics along with African-American cultural adaptations in the 19th century South Carolina Low Country--specifically All Saints Parish, north of Georgetown. Occasionally the author uses academic/scholarly jargon, which is fine for those of us with graduate degrees in history or social sciences, but might otherwise be a bit dense for the general reader.
