Who's ready to go back to school? Little Dinosaur is! This simple Step 1 book will help your eager little dinosaur get ready. Though his friend Spikey teases him, Little Dinosaur is first in line for the school bus on the first day of school. Will Spikey learn to get ready as well as Little Dinosaur does, or will he miss the bus? Perfect for first-day jitters or for any parent wanting a model of good behavior for the occasionally trying getting-ready-for-school hour!
Gail Herman, formerly a children's book editor in New York City, has written picture books, easy-to-reads, and chapter books, including many titles in the Who Was/What Was series. She lives in Newton, Massachusetts with her family.
This is a wonderful fiction book for children who are just beginning to read. The story is about a small dinosaur who prepares for his first School day. The story is written with a simple sentences, so the little ones can perfectly understand what is the story about .The illustrations are very colorful and allow children to feel identified with the dinosaurs because it uses familiar elements and actions such as getting dressed or keeping his books inside backpack. Also, I think that this book offers good opportunities to interact with children about their routines before starting school. The appropriate age to read this book is +3 years old
Every day of summer Little Dinosaur practices getting read for school. Spikey scoffs at Little Dinosaur's practice until it is really the first day of school and Spikey almost misses the bus.
The practical me thinks Little Dinosaur might have been bordering on OCD here. The teacher side of me knows that it does take little ones a while to get into a groove, and it is great to see diligence rewarded. Kids should just be enthralled with the attractive new dinosaur illustrations for this title.
Little Dinosaur spends all summer practising getting ready for school and is well prepared on Day 1. Spikey spends the summer playing and is a bit frazzled on Day 1.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
