The Warrior in Me

Rate this book
Special Security Agent Sebastian Berlin is eager to track down his partner's killer. Instead, he’s assigned the job of baby-sitting a scientist. His boss thinks she's the key to an Ancient Warrior Prophecy. Science never interested Sebastian, but the know-it-all female standing at the end of his Alaskan dock could persuade him to do a little experimenting. That is, if he can keep his Neanderthal Warrior genes from taking control.

DNA specialist Lily Sinclair is in need of a vacation, or so her over-protective ex-husband tells her. Arriving in chilly Alaska instead of sunny Cancun, she's tired and cranky and so not in the mood for her bodyguard's he-man tactics. Still, there's something about the sexy eye-candy that makes her want to lick him all over even as she's demanding to go home.

Then Lily's ex is poisoned, and Sebastian is certain the two murders are connected and she could be next. She knows he's hiding something, but with the worldwide release of Neanderthal DNA project only days away, she has no choice but to trust him to protect her. But can she trust him with her heart?

Author of erotic mysteries and romance

Anita Philmar likes to create stories that push the limit. A writer by day, and a dreamer by night, she wants her readers to see the world in a new way. With the influence of her children’s sci-fi programs, she likes to play with diverse cultures and places where anything can happen. She enjoys bringing hot romantic moments to life in a great read.

Dear reader,

First, thank you for your love and devotion over the years. You may have noticed. I haven’t released a new book in some time. This wasn’t because I didn’t have stories to write. No, it was more because the characters in my books wanted fuller stories.

Having a love affair with each of my characters, I couldn’t silence their chatter. They wanted their stories told in a deeper, more satisfying way. To silence them, I’ve worked to learn more about my craft to bring their stories alive.

Now the painful part, I want to make sure no one reads my stories in my old voice, so I am removing all my books from every retail site.
The good news is I plan to re-release a new rewritten story each month for the next few years.

So let the fun begin.

All the best,
Anita

Hi Guys! So, I totally needed something to break the monotony of Election Week and decided to this his AMAZEBALLS ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of The Warrior in Me by Anita Philmar.

Now y'all know I am nothing but honest when I write these things, so I have to start with this. I almost put it down. Those of you who have read my Bio know that I grew up in Alaska and know the area pretty well. So when I started it, I was questioning the author's research of an Alaskan summer, and my sanity and memory. I had to think about if I would do any of the stuff she was describing, being from Alaska myself. Then I had my "AH-HA" moment and went OMG of course not! I'm acclimated to Alaska and it's weird weather. Our Female Protagonist, would not think that Humid, breezy ocean air, even in July is warm. No matter how much I would.

Of course, once i slapped myself for that and forgave Anita, I continued reading and I was hooked. The story is thrilling, sexy and takes you on a ride full of twists and turns that you wouldn't ever expect to be there! I Wanted more of Sabastian and way more of Lily, and can't wait to see where this series goes! Honestly I am hoping that we get to see Rex and Bruce meet their perfect matches, because Rex needs to loosen up some and Bruce needs to mature a touch.

But honestly guys what would you do in Lily's shoes? Faced with the death of your body guard, ex-husband, being the center of the investigation and then being hunted for money and prestige that you never wanted to begin with? And have to contend with this giant Neanderthal of a man plaguing your every step?

Would you run away? Or would you run to him and let him help you solve the mysteries that you are being plagued by and get you out of trouble with the law? Think you have all the answers? Then go ahead and take a look at the blurb for The Warrior in Me below with a great expert from the book, or even better, Pre-order it from one of the links below.

It hits E-Books shelves on the Friday the 11th! Happy Reading!

Great original concept and a good start to a new series. The book was very well written (no typo's or grammatical errors) but the dialogue felt a bit formal or stiff at times. I found the H very likeable but had a bit of difficulty identifying with the h. Both characters did give me a bit of whiplash with their back and forth feelings (attitudes and feelings suddenly changed from one page to the next, especially with the h). The sexual content did not appear to be overdone and I actually thought the intimate scenes felt a little rushed (frequently interrupted without reason or proper motivation). However, I do look forward to the next release in the series as well as the progression/maturation of the authors writing style.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This book is the start to a series which I am looking forward to knowing more about. I enjoy books that combine romance with intrigue or mystery. Warrior in Me is about Lily and Sebastian as they grow in their relationship and try to figure out who killed her ex-husband and Sebastian's friend.

There are many interesting plot twists that keep you wondering who was behind the murders and what was the motive. There are only a few explanations about the Neanderthal DNA and what it means to Sebastian, so I am hoping that more will be explained in future books.

Great mystery and very hot romance!

A well-built mystery, a hot romance and developed characters with a hint of paranormal compound in a very engaging read.

The investigation got me hooked, and the insight into the past and the personality of the characters had a lot to do with that. The speed with which Lily and Sebi fell for each other was astonishing, it made me wonder if such perfect chemistry really exists - it must, 'coz it's not the first time I hear it does!

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I have always been fascinated with ancient tribal stories. This novel has a mix of tribal culture, romance, murder mystery and sex.
While I would have liked to see more about the tribal aspect and details it more than kept me interested. I found myself constantly stealing a few minutes here and there to read.
Who committed the murder and why? Will Lily get together with Sebastian or Bruce? Oh the passion!
No spoilers here. You have to read it to find out.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Here it is. This is the first book I have read from Anita Philmar. She had me engaged the whole way through this book. I had a hard time putting it down. The story line was well written and very interesting. The characters and their interactions seemed so real that I got lost in the mystery and tried to figure it out for them. Beautifully written story that had interesting characters. I would definitely read more from her.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Having said that, I loved this book. It has nerds, thriller, Alaska, what more could one want. Lily, the DNA researcher is a totally believable character. And I just loved Sebastian and his grandfather. I could not put this book down until I finished it. I will be reading more by this author.

I thought this was a really good start to this series. I wished there would have been a little more content regarding the Neanderthal Warrior gene...it sounds very interesting. I loved the chemistry that started immediately between Sebastian and Lily. I loved the little twists and turns throughout the story. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Science geek...Warrior? Love at first sight? Murder with all the usual suspects. Not the ending I saw coming.

Can two very different people from different places make a relationship work?

It's a great read with action, suspense and hot sex.

I couldn't put this book down once I started it. This is the first book in the Ancient Warrior Prophecy series, so there is an obvious learning curve about what the Prophecy is and what it means, not only to the characters in this book but to those in future books in the series. While not all answers about the Prophecy were given, I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series for more pieces to that puzzle. I particularly enjoyed how page one of this book dove right into getting to know Sebastian and Lily, the other characters, and the Prophecy, and didn't let up throughout the book. It was a great ride through an intricate swirl of intrigue, discoveries that only raised more questions, discredited preconceived notions, and very powerful emotions that left you with plenty of answers yet hungering for more information. There is definitely some hot instant attraction between Lily and Sebastian. That's what finding a true mate is all about, after all -- but their relationship was made real for me because there were still plenty of hurdles for them to work through despite their fated union. I was also thankful that Lily's profession gave her enough background information about Neanderthal Warrior DNA that no extraneous discussion was required for making Lily understand how Sebastian came to be what he is and feel how he feels. I also came to realize that, in her own way, Lily is just as strong as Sebastian given the events and people in her life that have unfortunately left indelible marks she has to struggle to minimize almost daily. Definitely a book to put on your want to read list!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book

Scientist and DNA specialist Lily Sinclair is told by her business partner (and ex-husband) that she needs a holiday - she has packed for the beach but she finds that she has been taken to Alaska instead of a sunny beach. She's tired and cranky and so not in the mood for her new destination and the alpha male who is her bodyguard/babysitter no matter how hot he looks

Security Agent Sebastian Berlin is eager to track down his partner's killer, not babysitting a scientist. His boss also wants him to report back on her project which is to look at Neanderthal DNA which he thinks is connected to the Ancient Warrior Prophecy. He finds there is something about his woman that means he is having trouble stopping his Neanderthal Warrior genes from taking control.

Then Lily's ex-husband is poisoned, Lily is a suspect, and he thinks she might be next on the killer's hit list. Can he find the killer, keep Lily alive and sort through his feeling for her and persuade her that she belongs with him?

This is a lovely story with lots of action, mystery and some romance added in for good measure. I could see and imagine everything that happened. I found a few things a bit far fetched but the plot was well thought out and it was an enjoyable read.

INTERESTING CONCEPT. The Warrior in Me is the first book in the Ancient Warrior Prophecy series. It can be read as a standalone, though it is clear the story doesn't end here. From the book blurb, it should have all the elements of a good story. And what little actual storyline there is, lives up to what I thought this would be.

The sex scenes are hot and steamy, so definitely 18+. But there are just way too many of them in the book. If you took all of the graphic sex scenes out, this book would be less than half the pages it is. It really detracted from how good the book could have been. It made me feel like the author didn't know what dialogue to write so she just threw in yet another graphic sex scene in (over and over again). I kept reading hoping it would get better, and it finally did in the last few chapters. But by then I had a hard time engaging with the main characters Sebastian and Lily.

I'm not sure yet if I will read the next book in the series in hopes I enjoy it more than I did this one. I have to figure out if it is worth my time and energy. I received a copy of this book and chose to leave a review for other readers.

The Warrior In Me is in intriguing and mysterious story that leads to more questions than answers. After the death of a guard things begin to go down hill. Suspicion plus more attempts have you guessing who wants what and why. The thing is it doesn't end, there are forces at work here both as a benefit and one that will have you asking who? what? and why? Envision the costs if you will, if it turns out that the one thing the others expect... comes to fruition. Couldn't put it down, had to keep reading but what a ride! I can't wait to read what happens next, will be keeping track of this series. This is the first time I've read an Anita Philmar book., so happy I did. She's being added to my favorite list. The Warrior In Me (Ancient Warrior Prophecy Book 1)
by Anita Philmar

This is the first book I have read from Anita Philmar. This is the first book in the Ancient Warrior Prophecy series. Filled with intrigue, drama, suspense, secrets, love and a bit of other in there to make it more interesting. A lot of twists and turns trying to figure out just who did it.

Would have liked to know more of the back story about the Neanderthal ancestry/DNA and I hope more will be explained in the next book.

Even though I thought it could do without a few of the sex scenes, I still recommend this book and I am looking forward to the next one.

I had never read Anita Philmar before so I didn't know what to expect, but I have to say I was quite impressed with this book. I found it to be very entertaining and I'm looking forward to seeing how this story plays out in future books. The characters were very honest and sincere and very real. They really draw you right into the story and make you believe. By the time I finished this book, I wanted a DNA test to see if I had Neanderthal DNA. Sebastian and Lily make a great couple. They really compliment each other... as long as Sebastian can keep her from running away. Her head and her heart don't always agree with each other. Overall, I found this book to be provocative and intriguing and sexy and gripping and romantic and absolutely riveting. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a dramatically sexy read.

With a start like this, the series is going to be amazing. This book has everything: love, lust, intrigue, drama, murder, revenge, and secrets galore, with a hint of a paranormal element to make it that much more interesting. I finished it in a single sitting because once I got started it was impossible for me to put down. the chemistry between Lily and Sebastian was compelling and I loved watching them work through their insecurities and vulnerabilities to be together. The mystery was well plotted and had me second-guessing my first instincts on more than one occasion. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.

I have read previous books from Philmar before. I have to be real. I was a bit skeptical to pick this up and read it, but I have to say this one far surpasses anything that I have read from her before. It was intense, suspenseful, mysterious, alluring. Rich with characters I want to have more of. Felt real. Felt rich. Felt it deep.

Lily Sinclair was a very valuable commodity. She and her ex had something that would rock the foundations. To keep her safe and out of harms way, her ex decides to send her on a little trip. Its just that this trip was not one she was planning to endure. Alaska. (I personally love the weather.) Lily was not a fan of this plan and wanted to go home. One thing or one person stood in her way and that was Sebastian.

I have to say that I did not love this book so much for the main characters as it was the combination of all the characters, the plot lien and the sub-plot. Getting a lot of background information on the prophecy was intriguing. I found the set-up for future read to be well thought out and executed.

Title: The Warrior In Me
Author: Anita Philmar

4 unexpected stars

Anita Philmar is an entirely new author for me and I was glad that I picked up The Warrior In Me. Considering it's the first book in a new paranormal series, I was easily able to follow the storyline once it began. It was very well described and there wasn't much second guessing on who's who and the links that exist between them. There were a few moments when I had to re read certain sections just to keep the scene in order (for example, Lily Sinclair's relationship with her ex-husband and his new wife). However, Anita Philmar knows how to bring her new world to life with her ability to describe the environment without going overboard.

3 cuddle worthy dreams

As beautiful as the scenery was, the budding relationship that was unfolding before my eyes between Lily and Sebastien was captivating. To see them start off from one end of the room as Lily wished to be anywhere else but at Sebastien's home, and then progress to needing one another through thick and thin on top of having to deal with the big Neanderthal project was thrilling. I truly am glad that I read The Warrior In Me by Anita Philmar and I can't wait to see what else is in store for the series.

This is a romance/suspense/mystery book. It is the first book in the ancient warrior prophecy series. The book is well written (no typo’s error). Anita Philmar has found a very interesting topic to write about and I will anxiously await book no. 2
I instantly like the main characters Sebastian and Lily. I would have liked more verbal communication between the two. I personally thought the many erotic sex scenes was a bit much.
The revelation of the killer was a surprising twist and I especially like that the book left a lot of questions unanswered.
I will most definitely recommend reading this book.

*** I am voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Reader Copy of this book***
This was a tough book to get into for me. I realize it is the first book in a series, and maybe the next few books would be better, but I felt the book just jumped into the sex for sex sakes. Maybe I missed something, but one minute Sebastian is annoyed with the intrusion and Lily and the next minute he is all over her. At times I felt he was using her for sex. Not a fan, don't think I would want to read any more of the series.

This story is a couple of genres mixed together, to make a marvelous story. It's a murder mystery and business espionage. It also the start of what may develop into a world saving epic, based on the Neanderthal Genetics and what the ancestors of those ancient people can do, due to the passing of abilities from one generation to the next.
The third side of the story is the mutual attraction and hot sexual encounters between the two main characters.
Yes, a really remarkable book and enjoyable read.
