General review:

The story is a bit farcical and has similar sentiments to other fairy tales. A princess, or women in general, judged for their delicateness is nothing new and is played up here with the amount of mattresses. The last bit of the narrator assuring the reader that the story is true is not completely absent device from Grimm tales, but it does feel unique for this kind of princess story. Though marriage and ridiculous tasks are common in fairy tales, Princess and the Pea feels more sly.
