This was humorous. I wouldn't take any of the advice super seriously as it's somewhat dumb and sexist advice. But it's cute to read about becoming your own Wonder Woman in the office.
This book is kind of sexist and embarrassing (like the way it suggests you should wear glasses to look smart, and leave work to buy shoes only if they are on sale), but the pictures of Wonder Woman are cool. Plus my dad gave it to me for Christmas, so that's another reason why I gave it two stars instead of one. Dad, I know you are trying to be supportive, and it's the thought that counts.
*An extra star for featuring Wonder Woman* :) (A birthday gift from my wonderful friend, and perfect considering how recently I began my new job.) The real advice about the workplace is basic common sense, which I expected. The gems here are the classic wonder woman comic panels. They are written in what I suppose is lifelike 40's dialogue, which today reads with definite hilarious, and often sexual, overtones. I breezed through it in one sitting, and got up delighted.
In looking for office/job hunting related books I found this one on the shelf. I've always been a fan of comics so I gave it a try. So of the interviewing tips are downright wrong and dangerous in this economy, but otherwise, it was a well balanced humor/helpful book that any comic fan will enjoy (not just women).
This was fun to flip through, but not something I would visit again. Cool art and cute layout. I might give this as a gift to an office drone female friend if they were having a shit time at work.
Fluffy, barely funny piece only redeemed by the plethora of classic Wonder Woman panels. An extra star for those brings this book's ratings to 2 stars.
There are a couple of things about this that just kind of don't work for me.
First, a small thing: this art is clearly from past issues of WW; I wish they would just be clear about the sources for if I wanted to investigate the context.
That said, I think pulling authentic art is the biggest success of this. It's just one of those things that goes to show how WW has had so many evergreen moments.
My other big problem is that I guess I just wanted something more earnest. It's not like it never is that, but it just strikes an awkward balance between sincerity and levity that just didn't feel quite right to me.
But it's all pretty pleasant and very colorful, even if I do feel like there's a glaring disconnect between the authenticity of the artwork and the far less specific-feeling writing.
A cute handbook that’s great for a little bit of a confidence boost — especially if you like Wonder Woman. I definitely do, which prompted my boyfriend to get me this as a gift for Christmas (thanks for fueling the obsession). He also paired it with a large Wonder Woman mug that may or may not insinuate that I am the woman herself as I drink my morning tea. Nothing too serious or novel, but definitely an enjoyable read for any working girl.
A whimsical, yet often practical book subtitled “An Amazon’s Guide to the Working World,†this book combines original comic book art of Wonder Woman and other DC Comic superheroes with clever text and some solid insights on numerous topics for the woman in the working world. The chapters include The Job Interview, Dealing with the Boss (And Being a Good One), Co-workers (the Good, the Bad and the Annoying), A Typical Work Day, Climbing Up the Corporate Ladder, The Perils of the Office Romance and Vacation, Benefits and other Perks.
The back of the book enjoins: “Tired of bumping up against the glass ceiling, grappling with evil bosses, and tarnishing your tiara while changing the toner? Tap into the goddess withing and let WONDER WOMAN show you how to ace a job interview, combat a tyrannical manager, deal with annoying co-workers, handle office romance, and more.â€
A very entertaining read that includes some excellent advice on surviving in the workplace (for both women and men).
The book was so funny. I enjoy every page. Job advice from Wonder Woman. I loved the old comics drawings in the book too. I might vote might be a little high than other people. The reason being that I'm a huge fan of Wonder Woman.
A fun book. Essentially an Ally-McBeal-esque take on Wonder Woman, using vintage comic excerpts. Oddly enough, even as a man, I did find 2 good corporate tips to take with me to work!
While this is a beautifully illustrated book, the advice doesn't offer up anything new. It would make a fun gift to a graduating college senior, though.
While this is a humorous look at the working world...it does have some pretty good ideas. I am leaving it as decoration in my cubicle now that I have finished reading.
