Waking up with no recollection of the night before sucks. What's worse? Realizing the guy next to you is dead. Apparently murdered. Yikes!

My bakery buddies Callie and Anna are ready to jump into the investigation. I can't let them. They'll learn the secrets I've been keeping. They are not going to be happy when they discover I've been sticking my nose where it doesn't belo

Favorite Quotes:

Not only is there a man in my bed I don't know, but he's passed out. And he's naked. I've never even seen a naked man before. Well, not up close and personal. And he's lying on his back with his junk hanging out. Not that I'm looking. Okay, I'm looking. Is that what a man's junk looks like? That's not attractive at all. It's wrinkly and small. Way smaller than I expected. I shake my head and look away.

That's completely cowardly lion territory. I am not a cowardly lion. I am the

This latest installment in the Death by Cupcake series stars Kristie, the barista at Callie's Cakes. Kristie wakes up naked in bed with a dead man and with no recollection of what happened the night before. With the help of her work colleagues Callie and Anna and their boyfriends Ben and Logan, Kristie tries to uncover the truth about what happened that night - before someone else gets hurt. With the addition of a new character, will Kristie finally land a man of her own?

In Self-Serve Murder, the third book in the Death By Cupcake Series, author D.E. Haggerty continues to weave a delightful cozy mystery series that follows the amateur investigative adventures of Kristie, Callie's Cakes twenty-three year old barista and social work grad student.

Kristie is a social work grad student who works part time at the local youth center and part time as a barista at her friend Callie's bakery, Callie's Cakes. Kristie wakes up naked and next to a dead guy in bed, and she ha

The third installment in the Death By Cupcake series features bakery assistant and college student Kristie. She becomes unwittingly involved in a murder mystery after waking up next to the victim, with no recollection of who he is or how he got into her bed. And, you can imagine if you've read the previous 2 books in the series, this is where the fun begins!

Although this has the trademark humor I've come to expect in these books, the subject matter is a little's something that sadly

Though little more than a supporting character in the first two Death by Cupcake books, Kristie Larson is a standout in Self-Serve Murder, the third book in the series.

The youngest of the daring trio (which include Callie and Anna) from Callie’s Cakes, Kristie is, IMHO, the most mature…or at least she doesn’t act on impulse…much. And while she seems timid, you already know there's more to Kristie than meets the eye considering her 'job' and commitment to an inner-city youth center.

What would you do if you wake up naked and have no recollection on how you ended up in your own bed? And what would you do if you wake up with a dead body beside you?

Creepy right?

Well, this was what happened to Kristie after a hazy night at a frat party. With no idea who the dead man beside her was, she called up her boss and baker friends and together they tried to solve a mystery as bitter as coffee and as dark as chocolate. Yum, yum!

Oh yes! The girls of Callie’s Cakes are back and this time,

Received in exchange for a honest review.

this was great. Not as funny as the other two in the series but just as fun and wacky. Callie and Anna are a hoot. They have these sweet boyfriends who are so alpha but they do what they want and ignore what they say. Kristie is in trouble now and she has her own alpha to contend with. Tyler comes into the picture and he tries to take control. He is demanding and an unknown but also adorable and commanding. It wants to do what is best for Kristie but goes

Note - I reviewed an ebook copy supplied by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I had no idea what to expect with this book as I've never read a cosy mystery before (watched plenty of TV shows though). It was clear from the start that this was not a serious mystery book, and once this is established it's easy to sit back and enjoy the escape from reality.

I hadn't read the previous two books in the series, but wasn't worried as it stated this could be read as a standalone. The crime itse

DE Haggerty has fast become a must read author for me. With Self-Serve Murder she brings us another addicting concoction of humor, mystery, and romance. Just a little taste and I was lost in the pages.
We've had a chance to get to know Kristie a bit in the past two Death By Cupcake novels. During Bring Your Own Baker, it was clear that something was going on with Kristie and we quickly come to find out that she's been doing her own investigation into on campus rape cases. When she wakes up in bed

This book grabbed me from the beginning! Kristie woke up with no memory of the night before. She didn't have a clue why she was naked and had a dead man in her bed. Of course, I wanted answers so I kept reading. Kristie works at Callie's Cakes part-time and goes to college. There had been several rapes on campus so Kristie went to a bar frequented by students to investigate. That didn't work for her. She got roofied and the next thing she knew she was home in bed - not alone (remember the dead g ...more
It was difficult for me to rate this mystery. My dilemma was how the hot, scary men were depicted.
This is a nontraditional cozy mystery dealing with a very important yet sensitive topic.
I loved the three women looking into the mystery and attempting to bring change and take action where the authorities are not. When you discover who is the perpetrator, I hope it makes you angry because it is very plausible. Even the campus police receptionist is to be applauded and admired.

But these strong, spir

Self-Serve Murder is Kristie's story (though she spells her name wrong) (HA - see what I did there?). Kristie works at the bakery owned by Callie from book 1 in this series. Their co-worker is Anna, from book 2 in the series. That being said, each book can be read as a standalone.

Kristie wakes up one morning not only with no memory of how she got there, but also next to a dead man she doesn't recognize. This is enough to make Callie and Anna determined to help find "who did it" against the wishe

Even though this is a standalone book, I am really looking forward to reading the first two now :)
If I woke up naked in my own bed, not only knowing how I got there but having a dead body next to me!?!?!? I'd be freaked to say the least...
Kristie is dealing with exactly this after a big night at a frat party...

I'm having so much fun with the Death by Cupcake Series by D. E. Haggerty! Self-Serve Murder is number #3, and they just keep getting better.

This time, it's Kristen trying to figure out what is happening to the girls at her school. Then she wakes up with a dead body...Now her friends are off to the races with a mystery to solve!

Secrets revealed and love found. As usual couldn't put the reader down!

This is a cozy mystery, but one that doesn't shy away from the harsher realities of life.  In this one our resident social worker in training come youth centre leader come barista has woken up feeling woozy and with no recollection of how she got home from the bar the previous night, if that isn't bad enough she has woken up naked ... with a naked man next to her, or should we say a naked corpse! Kristie starts to panic and phones Callie and Anna who promptly turn up with their boyfriends in tow ...more

All though this book dealt with a serious subject matter, it was still Lucy and Ethel aka Anna and Callie plus Kristie. It was pretty intense but it did have a lot of fun moments.
Kristie is a quiet, shy, serious about getting her degree. But she has secrets she's keeping from her friends. But when she wakes up naked next to a dead guy all the secrets need to be shared. During the investigation it comes to light that a guy is also looking into rapes on the campus. Unknown at the time Kristie has

Book Three is told in Kristie's voice, which apparently requires a surfeit of coffee-centric cute-isms (spoiler alert: once or twice is cute, but continued overuse just becomes obnoxious and annoying). Lucy/Ethel references are plentiful, but the corresponding madcap fun and humor are woefully absent. The well-worn path of "girl + alpha male who immediately claims ownership = HEA" is followed with slavish devotion. Kristie seems like an inane twit, but the rest of the group is lika

I have loved this series, and this 3rd book is no exception. Anna and Callie are up to their usual hijinks, when their barista Kristie wakes up naked in her bed with a naked body beside her. There is a rapist on campus, slipping roofies into drinks and leaving no DNA or other clues behind. In spite of the 2 large, scary cop boyfriends (and a fireman who shows up and won't leave Kristie's side), the girls launch their own investigation, and the antics are hilarious. I love how the guys are

As well as being a grad student and working part time at the local youth centre, Kristie Larson helps out as a barista at Callie’s Cakes. When she finds herself in bed one morning with a man she doesn’t know, and soon realises is dead, dazed and shocked she calls her best friend Anna. Kristie has no memory of the previous night, the man or how he ended up at her house, much less in her bed. What would you do if you woke up in your bed with a naked dead guy next to you? Without any memory of what might've happened? That's exactly what Kristie has to deal with. Being a good girl and a social worker makes things even worse. How could she end up in a situation like this? It seems she'll have to find out... with a bit of help from her boss lady, coworker, and two policemen who seem to be glued to their ladies ;).

This is my favorite of the three books in this story! While I loved the stories about Callie and Anna, Kristie's story just seemed to be a more realistic, emotionally charged story.

We learn more about Kristie and her life in this book...for instance, her true connection to the Youth Center (which made me love her even more). I also loved that she tried to be the voice of reason to Anna and Callie, while taking risks of her own, ignoring her own voice of reason, Tyler.

The subject matter of rape
