Since moving to Memphis ten years ago, I have become deeply invested in the sports culture of the city. From watching the Tigers Football team dramatically change its fortunes to living the Grit n Grind era of the Grizzlies, I feel as though I have truly found my sports home. After the Jump reflects Memphis' passionate connection to its teams and players, as well as the other personalities who shape the city's identity, with wisdom, humor, and a big-hearted understanding of our distinctive quirks. Geoff Calkins has a non-native's perspective but a longtime-Memphian's awareness of what makes us who we are. Although I'm more loyal to the Grizzlies than the U of M, I found every section to be a fascinating history of our teams' progress, and I especially enjoyed the pro ...more
