True tales of piracy, captivity, and robbery on the high seas featuring Calico Jack, Captain Kidd, Black Bart Roberts, the legendary Henry Every, the attack of Viceroy of Goa’s ship, two lady pirates who survived hanging, and the capture of Miguel Cervantes and his brother. Piracy’s Golden Age was between 1690 and 1720. Pirates also known as corsairs ruled the Barbary Coast along Northern Africa and pursued riches in the Caribbean, the British East India Company and the Atlantic trade routes and made their home on the high seas, Madagascar, New Providence, Bahamas, and the South China Sea. Many sailors switched allegiances when they were captured enticed by the opportunities for riches. According to the infamous and successful pirate Bartholomew Roberts “It is a short life but a merry one.”

Pirate is a lifestyle! Also got a book recommendation in this book: after this I'll read A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the Most Notorious Pirates by Daniel Defoe ;P.
A fakt je to dobry source materiál pre moje vlastné pribehy, aby posobili realistickejsie. :D
***
***
Teraz mám sto chutí zažiť nejaké dobrodružstvo sama. :D Liked it, enjoyed it and... Určite si jednotlivé príbehy budem v budúcnosti dookola čítať. Pretože mne sa to zjavne neomrzí :P. ⛵⚓🏴‍☠️ Yo-Ho!

Men verkligheten överträffar dikten, brukar man ju säga.

The short stories are well written and fun to read, although they aren't all quite true! Its a real pity that there are there are some historical inaccuracies. The short stories are also not well connected, with claims that different pirates were the most famous, and that there were only two women who were female pirates, and then later, a short story talking about 'Mrs Ching'.

This is a great book to read for folks interested in pirates and want to begin learning some fascinating stories - Just be sure to check them out further afterwards with factual sources.

[True Stories of Pirates] by [[Lucy Lethbridge]] - Absolutely fascinating. The author didn't glamorize, glorify or embellish any of the stories as often happens with tales of pirates, she simply told them as they were. I loved learning about the women pirates (Anne Bonny, Mary Read and Mrs. Ching). I also loved hearing about the different areas of pirating; of course you always hear about the West Indies and Caribbean, but hearing about South East Asia and New England was pretty damned interesting too. [return]I could have used a glossary of some kind since some of the words were antiquated and a timeline (since the book was not chronological) would have been really nice as well. Oh well, just some things to think about for the next edition.

Thought it was great - mostly historically accurate,

Though I don't believe for a moment that Anne Bonny had black pegs for teeth. She came from a great family, was a lady, the daughter of a wealthy merchant, not likely she'd let her teeth go especially since she was known for having her own tailor and hairdresser (her best friend) on board.

An easy read. Had prefered if the stories had been put down chronological.
