For lovers of the Harlequin Romance genre, The Theatre follows this genre to a cue. The story resides in the stage of hot passion and many graphic lovemaking scenes too vivid for a theatre's stage. I had not expected the book gravitate to exclusively romance, and plundered through the story and exhaled a sigh of relief with the last page. The characters are perfect models of a hunky man and a long-legged, sexy woman. The hate shone toward homosexual men ends badly. The tired, blasé description o ...more

A Great Read
Do you believe in second chances? If you do, you'll love this story. Theatre is a romantic suspense about two mature people falling in love. The heroine, Kelly Lawson, is a talented New York City actress who returns to her hometown for the theatre season. The hero, Police Chief Josh Kincaid, is her mother's pick for a "suitable suitor." But these two don't need her help. Sparks fly the moment they meet. The road to true love is never easy and their's is complicated by murder, politic

The Theatre is about Kelly Lawson who is apparently single and focused woman devoted to her career in the arts. I can sense her struggle and hectic schedule barely have enough time to solely focus on building a family of her own. One thing that I have to say is that when parents get naggy because their child is still single, it can get out of hand. Hard enough to cope with that especially if you are the hope to continue joy

Marsha West knows theater, hence, she is the perfect person to write this story of the behind-the-scenes action surrounding a regional play house. I chuckled at the situation with the actress' mother who tried her best to fix her up with a man. It didn't take mom's hand to push her into a relationship with the police chief. She fell for him, but didn't think her high powered career and living in her hometown could mix. Ms.West builds romance and suspense into the story and balances her use of de ...more

Marsha R. West is good at suspense. I discovered this when reading her previous novels. This story deals with protagonist Kelly Lawson, a NYC actress who spends the summer in her hometown both performing and producing theatre. In a novel with several storylines, Ms. West deals with discrimination and prejudice against a gay couple and people of color in the theatre troupe, Alzheimer's, etc. The book also encompasses second chances where sparks fly and love is in the air.

I really enjoyed this romantic suspense novel. It home on a few levels - set in Texas close to where I live and 2 of the men have Alzheimers (I have known many that had this including my own dad).

I like that while Kelly may be an actress and famous, she is very down to earth and has some of her own issues to deal with as well. Josh hasn't had the easiest life either but he knows what he wants when he meets Kelly.

This is a suspense novel so there is only a slight bit of a mystery at the beginnin

Kelly is a famous actress that leaves New York for the summer break to act in the summer theatre program in her Texas hometown. There she meets Josh, the police chief of the small town. Sparks fly but a long term relationship seems impossible considering their two different lifestyles, in two different parts of the country. As if that's not complicated enough, Kelly finds herself caught up in a dangerous conspiracy that threatens not only her life but also the cast, crew and even the theatre its ...more

A well paced, exciting story. It is good to read a romance about slightly older people, Kelly is 40 and Josh is 47. The story feels quite real, you can imagine it happening, although the killing of the two young men Robin and Chet perhaps should have been explored in a little more detail, I know they were secondary characters , but the association of them to Kelly in the mind of Councillor Hinson could have been expanded on.

A good story, worth reading. Worth 4.5 stars.

Love and suspense

I've always loved a good love story along with a little suspense. This story did not disappoint. The only disappointment was that it took the heroine so long to make up her mind. Thank you to the author for allowing me to read her book for my review. I would highly recommend this book

a really good book. It is fun, exciting, and very enjoyable to read. The main character and all of her funny and different friends. It was so enjoyable to read. Kept my attention and was interesting. It is different than my usual read but I liked it. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.

Genre:  Romance, General Fiction

Sometimes you get a book that's potentially a great story for others, but just doesn't resonate for you, and that's what happened here.
I did finish the story, but it was a bit of a slog. I can't really put my finger on reasons, there's nothing obvious, its more a fusion of many tiny issues.

Kelly, talented, gorgeous, barely eats, actress come choreographer is back in her home town for the summer. Ev
