When I first read the synopsis of the book, I was intrigued and was looking forward to reading my first indie book. After reading it, I was thrilled by the outcome of the story. Though, it started out confusing until I reached the climax of the story.

Some of the scenes may be dulled, but it gets exciting in between. Though, I have wished it was more exciting, but at least it did during the climax. Also, I have noted there were a couple of mistakes, considering that there a couple of "fluff" wor

Complex story of a clash between two worlds. Kitty Fairlow is on the verge of getting married. Her father reveals, she is not who she thinks she is, but one of The Constellations, and he entrust her to bring a special Urn to the princess, their leader. This begins an epic story involving the organization of more 'Constellations," who are recruited and must work together to save their world. A fine fantasy filled with descriptive battles and engaging characters that will delight both YA and NA re ...more

A very good plot, based on constellations who want to save their world from invaders. This book is good balance of humor and sarcasm.
I liked the characters, especially Kitty. I found the dialogue delivery fantastic. I enjoyed many scenes. Kitty is innocent but courageous. I can't stop my smile while she asserts -

F'ing INCREDIBLE! And I totally gift Asher the whole of my heart ❤️

I honestly had no expectations going into this. I was just in the mood for a fantasy escape, and this one caught my eye. Didn't even read the blurb before d/ling it.

So glad that's the way I played it! Because seriously, when this book blew me away, the impact was all the more satisfying for being entirely unanticipated.

The world is fascinating. There's a shit-tonne of action here. It's a wild adventure crammed with twists and tur

A great fantasy novel, with a gorgeous book cover!
The first title of a saga series.

Good plot and pace, high quality descriptive writing and memorable characters.
Kitty is a great character- feisty & independent but also a bit of a naive innocent.
The settings are very well portrayed- the dialogue and narrative are so vivid its as if I'm actually there with the characters, seeing them with my own eyes.

A fresh take on classic fantasy characters combined with a strong story. Well built characters conduct the reader through a captivating story. The level of detail in the descriptions is breathtaking. Surely a read to enjoy on a rainy day with nice cup of tea. I look forward to the second one.

I've said it before, but this perfectly sums up this book
~If you like fantasy, cool powers, sarcastic characters and tea you should check this out!~

I started reading this from the first draft of the first few chapters, and have been there every step of the way, to where it is finally a physical book.

The story follows main character Kitty, who is a hunter living in a small village, waiting to be married to her childhood sweetheart.

When a routine hunt for robbers in the forest turns out to not be

Heirs of Power (The Constellation Saga #1) is a fantasy novel which is broad in scope and combines elements of the make-believe with realistic portrayal of the characters. It takes the reader to a beautiful world threatened by an invading army from another planet. The fate of this world and its human population is in the hands of a group of young, second generation Constellations who have to put aside their daily lives and face numerous challenges in order to fight off the invaders. Heirs of Power was a pretty interesting book. It hooks you right from the beginning and drags you through the entire adventure.

First, the book started off great for me but then it did get a little slow right after. Maybe it's just because we were just getting to know Kitty Fairlow, who is the MC, and her whole life story before her adventure begins.. but yeah, I have no idea!

Well about Kitty, hmmm.. well she has a fiance name Luke and they are planning their wedding. Well, at least they were u

The cover is great, very close to what I imagined the archer to look like. I can't imagine anyone who reads this book wouldn't like it as long as they ha a love of fantasy. This author took the time to give each Constellation their very own ability, and their own personality. Serena, the dancer might think she is the the leader, but I think Kitty, the Archer actually holds this group together. I have to say Asher maybe brash and arrogant, but he is my favorite character do far. There is this rac ...more

Wow! This book is a really, really pleasant surprise. I will be honest, I am not a fantasy genre reader usually so I began reading with a little trepidation as I was out of my reader comfort zone. The skill of Kay MacLeod's writing and story telling abilities overcame my fantasy genre fears very quickly and I was very soon drawn into the enthralling storyline, clever characterisations and fast-paced action.

I'll admit I couldn't always keep up 100% with every battle scene but this is just me. The

Heirs of Power is exciting and vivid! It is packed with fast paced action, magic, and danger! For those who love a good ya story full of adventure and inherent power, this one is for you!

I found this one to be very unique and adventurous! I thoroughly enjoyed the idea of the constellations being passed their abilities from their parents because of ancient spirits inhabiting their bodies. It was a new magic system that worked really well with the vivid world that MacLeod built. The writing was vi

Compelling fantasy for teens and adults alike.

I love the banter between characters, which makes their quest/calling, which is very serious and dangerous, all the more real because they are so believable in their relationship development and emotions.

Definitely a page turner - looking forward to book two.

Guys...This was such a freaking fun ride. This book got me through the flu and I am eternally grateful for that haha. I adore Kitty and the world in this book! It felt like I was reading a video game in the best possible way. Overall I highly recommend this fun and fast-paced read and I am downloading book 2 on my kindle as I type this.

I absolutely loved this book! It’s one of those stories that has you thinking about it whilst you’re going about your day-to-day life. I felt a real affinity for the characters, and the book was a great balance of plot, character development, back-story, and battles. I’ll be heading straight from writing this review over to buying the 2nd instalment!

I read my first book by this author last year and really enjoyed it, while waiting for the next book in that series I decided to pick up this book. I wasn't quite sure what to expect of it and I was afraid I might not enjoy it as much as her other series. I shouldn't have worried as I fell in love with this story. It grabbed my attention form the first chapter and stayed a riveting read all throughout the book. I was sad when I finished it and I can't wait to dive into book 2 as I have to know w ...more

This is an exciting and thoughtful book (the first of a series) about the threat of alien incursion into a world similar to ours. The threat is countered by a team of people ("Constellations") who have inherited powers from their parents. It is noteworthy for having a world and society that looks quite pleasant compared to many in fantasy (though rather erratically modern - bunny slippers but no guns?) and for women being allowed to participate on equal terms. (A big plus for me.) The author has ...more

Book Review: Heirs of Power (The Constellation Saga bk 1) by Kay MacLeod

Heirs of Power is a steadily moving stream of deep, thoughtful characterizations, beautiful descriptions, and swift, provocatively gritty, action. It shines as a character driven story by giving you deep insights into the main character, Kitty, while thoroughly rounding out the personalities of the rest of the main cast of characters with amazing honesty.

I really enjoyed this book and meeting each character as it progressed. The fact that these humans bonded with Constellations giving them special abilities was cleverly done. The characters were all likeable and individual, but I must admit I had a real soft spot for Asher, his personality really stood out and his eventual true friendship with the heroine Kitty was a good part of the story as it developed. The ideas were very original, I've read many fantasy books and haven't come across this co ...more

This is an engaging fantasy novel that reminds me, oddly, of the Chronicles or Riddick mashed up with Lord of the Rings and Battlestar Galactica (2000s version). Heirs of Power features a motley assemblage of heroes and heroines who have their own unique identities but also function as a unit when needed. The Lucidians' world is threatened by the Tenebrians and their need for energy and land. To combat this threat there are Constellations, protectors of the Lucidian world, who will fight the Ten ...more

Heirs of Power is a gripping tale that will leave you wanting more. MacLeod's descriptions made me feel as if I was there, along side the constellations as they began their journey. I found all the characters to be relatable and enjoyed discovering more about their complex identities. There is one warning I would give for this book; if you have a lot to get done other than reading, do not start this book. Not being a true fantasy book fan, I’ll have to say, I greatly enjoyed reading “Heirs of Power.” Kay MacLeod has developed a complex world of social hierarchy, inventive lands, and a threat to the existence of this world. However, it’s her main characters that will grab onto you and keep you reading to find out what they can do and how they will defeat evil. MacLeod’s use of special powers is ingenious and her character’s interactions provide humor and realism to the story. I’ll keep reading, I ...more
