I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway and passed it onto my mother to read as she is a psychologist. This is what she thought of it:

Opening the Door from Inside is a self help book written in the first person. The reader can enjoy both a narrative story as well as obtaining advice on real life problems through the authors own professional experience. Any woman who finds herself in a domestic violence situation with all its complexities including seeing the positives of the man she married

I am a marital therapist and read this book with great interest.

The author helps women to understand the cycle of violence and the processes at play that keep them stuck in these destructive relationships.

The strength of this book lies in its ability to speak to women experiencing the full spectrum of abuse from non violent abusive relationships to women experiencing extreme violence.

I highly recommend this book to both professionals and victims of domestic violence.

This book has a wider use than just for those in an abusive relationship. I feel it should be mandatory reading for all school leavers. I have recommended it to my fellow workers at the retirement establishment where I volunteer and some have already purchased it as part of their training.

I received this book as a good reads giveaway.

I thought it was good practical guide for people in a domestic violence situation. I would have liked to have seen some more "stories" included as further examples of how the tips in the book could be applied.

I work in an area that provides advice and support to DV victims and I think this book will be a valuable reference for our work.

Robin Parry is a practicing relationship and family therapist with 30 years’ experience dealing with domestic violence at both a personal and a clinical level.

What makes her work unique is her broadly based practice of working with both male perpetrators and female victims and her recognition of the opportunities for change that both abused women and abusers themselves can put into practice.
