NOTE: While this book can be enjoyed as a stand alone, you will be missing a LOT of background information about what has been years in the making in fighting the spread of Elixir and the devastating effects it had in this world. If you have not read the preceding 3 books I would recommend that you do since they are all 5 Stars reading.
The last few books by Elizabeth Hunter that I have read seem to follow a similar pattern in my mind, the book starts slow and while interesting I am not feeling like I am that involved.
Somewhere along the way it slowly gets better, draws you in and at some point you are suffering serious reading addiction. You are deeply hooked into a story that you just can't get enough of and you are not even sure exactly when that happened.
The story of Lucien and Makeda was a nice bit of change in relationships in these books since their story was a love/hate relationship for the ages, but at some point we were getting tired of Makeda and her insecurities. I think it pulled out barely in time.
The action parts of this story are amazing and nothing like it since A Fall of Water and I loved it.
The real story this romance is wrapped around though is the battle against Elixir which has a multiple plot of curing the infected and eliminating the source. This is what makes the book really amazing and as with many of Elizabeth Hunters books the ability to merge the romance and the action together is why I keep writing 5 Star reviews of these books.
Bottom line: The story is amazing and as with most of her stories it starts slow and just builds into an addicting tale with multifaceted plots. By the time the book is over you are wishing the story would just keep going. Once again 5 Stars and like all really good books, it leaves you with a good warm feeling that comes from those rare books that you just wish would never end.

Once again, Hunter has gifted readers with an epic tale, beautifully orchestrated and rich in details. One in which the landscape becomes a living, breathing character, carrying the reader on a magic carpet ride through faraway lands where all the elements of nature intertwine and become as one. Complex, almost mythical characters and intricate plot lines are flawlessly woven with the landscape, fleshing out this epic paranormal fantasy.
The Elemental World story arc continues as Lucien, earth vampire, is joined by Makeda Abel, a blood specialist and more, in a battle against time and unknown enemies to find both the source and a cure for the virus Elixir as it ravages both human and immortals. Both resent the chemistry sparking between them and turn to mental sparring as a weapon against emotions raging out of control in a classic love/hate relationship. A devastating event occurs early in the story that will forever change their lives as well as their fate. Realizing that they're losing the race against the clock, they align paths and begin a quest for answers. I won't elaborate more on the story as it simply must be experienced firsthand.
A Stone Kissed Sea is a beautifully written story rich in imagery and characterizations that will carry you away to another place and time. While part of the overall Elemental World story arc, Hunter incorporates sufficient background information for it to be read as a standalone - although reading previous books will be high on your list upon finishing this one! I became a fan of Elisabeth Hunter since I read A Hidden Fire, the 1st book in her Elemental Mysteries Series and I loved the spin-off, Elemental World Series - you can read my reviews on the first three books here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Needless to say, I was so excited with the arrival of book #4 - A Stone-Kissed Sea...............but that excitement soon began to fade..............throughout most of the story I spent doing more of..........
The story just dragged on and on.....pretty much like me on the floor!!!
The main characters...the hero....ancient vampire Lucien Thrax and the heroine, Makeda.....the human beyond intelligent scientist who never ever wants to become a vampire whilst working in the vampire world....suddenly turns beyond stupid when she's turned to save her life!!!!!OOOh, then it's hate hate hate poor old beyond stupid hero, Lucien...who just by the way did not turn her into a monster vampire...his friend did...alright Lucien did ask him to do it!!!
The two spend more time snipping and ignoring each other than any kind of loving..........I just never felt the loving...the chemistry between these two. I couldn't give a toss what happens to them.........I wanted to go out there and find a cure for their malady..........
Anyway, the plot just keeps getting more and more OTT...........the ancient vampires are on a power roll....Lucien and Makeda are working on a cure for Elixir ...remember, the poison killing off vampires and humans!!!! So, let's lots and lots of travel...by private jet....by private boat.....and lots of other methods!!! Lots and lots of very very boring boring ancient vampires...........there are so many characters in the story that I had to keep reminding myself who was who!!
Although we get to see some characters from the previous books......which was the only thing that made me continue turning the next page...........what would have made it more bearable was if I could have been given a glimpse of Giovanni Vecchio and Beatrice De Novo.........which we don't get...we just get his private jet!!!
I know I'm in the minority here about this book..........all the reviews I've seen have been 4 and 5 stars............so, don't let me put you off reading this book............it's just for me................A Stone-Kissed Sea did not turn out to be a reading-kissed experience!!!!

So many beautiful moments and not enough words to describe Ms. Hunter’s talent. Her penmanship for sizzling, spine tingling tales can’t be rivalled with any other vampire books out there. Truly magnificent with a story and characters that will blow your mind and will stay with you for a very long time.
This is the one book that I wasn’t entirely sure about. Don’t get me wrong no one writes paranormal fangmance quite like Ms. Hunter. Well there is one another but Ms. Hunter is a true star. I’ve fang-girled enough now.
The elemental world hung in the balance.
Lucien Thrax made of royalty one of the oldest vampires out there sired by Saba. Friends with Kato, Ziri and Arosh. An Earth vampire powerful but not power hungry. A warrior at heart but in time of two thousand years he has become a scientist and a researcher.
After being so old what is there to live for? Forming attachments with humans is dangerous, keeping his human lover with him with an experimental drug.
Elixir. A cure that turned into a plague.
A cure is needed and time is running out. If not in time then the ancients will change the world like they did once before. Humanity is hanging on a thread.
Lucien isn’t getting anywhere in finding a cure for the Elixir so he is paired up to collaborate with a doctor. It is a battle of minds and wills. They butt heads. Yet being so antagonistic in this case didn’t bother me at all. I think because it wasn’t based on their dislike but actually the attraction and chemistry they didn’t want to feel towards one another.
Makeda Abel intelligent as she is arrogant. Stubborn as she is beautiful. Belives that no one can rival her intelligence. A choice is made for the knowledge that Makeda has and the breakthrough for the cure. Not done to her by her choice. Forgiveness is a must. When Makeda finds out what has been requested by her.
Scientists can be as territorial as vampires. I don’t even want to think about a scientist who is a vampire.
They are more alike than they think. Brilliant, arrogant and an intelligence but being secluded from everyone else in their lives. But the attraction they feel with one another can’t be denied and Makeda. Lucien is taken with Makeda.
Makeda’s mind ensnared him. A curl of anticipation tightened in Lucien’s gut when he thought of her already brilliant mind enhanced by amnis. She would be dazzling. Luminous. Captivating. A queen. Desire for her burned in his blood.
Hot with when stone kisses the sea. With time Makeda believes what Lucian feels for her.
“Do you indulge every craving you have?” “It depends on what it is, he said. “If it’s something that would be good for me, then yes. And Makeda”- he bent down and whispered in her ear- “I would be very good for you.”
We travel the world and see the places through Ms. Hunter’s eyes and the eyes of the characters. Be it California or Ethiopia. Places that I would like to visit. Okay maybe not California peeps but Ethiopia without a doubt. Very clever Ms. Hunter I liked those twist and turns when it came to the cure and it added that specialness to the plot.
Now I personally think that you can’t read this as a standalone. You have to start right at the beginning to immerse yourself into the Elemental World. Get a feel for each and every character that is unique and gives you the ride of your life.
From what I can tell this is the end of the series. But I know that we will get more of Ben & Tenzin. I adore these two together and can’t wait for more. Thank you Ms. Hunter for sharing this world with me and the rest of the world.

Where to start. Well, first I will say that I was given an ARC of this book and will leave an honest review. There, now that is done.;) I am a HUGE fan of Elizabeth Hunter (to put it mildly) and I will never get enough of the Elemental world that she has created. Each and every character worms its way into my heart, and A Stone Kissed Sea is no different. One of the things I love about her books is that when she takes you to someplace in the world through her story, she really takes you. You feel as if you've walked the streets and smelled the air even though you've never set foot there before. In this story we travel from the rocky west coast, where we get to see some old friends from past books, (whoop whoop Baojia fans!!) all of the way to Ethiopia alongside Lucien and Makeda as we watch their breathtaking story develop. I saw the beauty of the vast lands of Ethiopia through Lucien's ancient eyes, as well as through young Makeda's experiences.
Ms. Hunter not only brings to life the location, but the words she writes breath life into her characters as well. Not since Giovanni and Beatrice have I loved how much a couple compliments each other like I do with these two. It is a love hate relationship that has life altering complications, but the underlying connection is strong from the beginning. I really enjoyed watching Makeda develop in her new life, and how Lucien stood by her side through it. I felt like by having Lucien back in his home turf, it brought out a different side of him. A playfulness that we haven't seen before.
We also got a great story line for Saba, an ever intriguing character who is so ancient that I will never truly be able to understand her. I love the idea of her existence, that she was there at the beginning and will likely be there when it all ends. There is a connectivity to her character being an earth vampire and the fact that she lives where she does. She is truly a stunning queen. The way I now see Ethiopia after reading this book makes it seem like such a magical place. It seems timeless…venerable. The spans of nature and earth there makes total sense for it to be the home of the most powerful earth vampire in history.
All in all this is an absolutely 5 star read, I was gripped from the Prologue (which is classic for her books-they start off with that first page and suck you right in) And sad when I turned the last page. I'm a greedy fan, what can I say, I always want more.

I love this series! I think of it as ‘intelligent PNR’. There’s that creation of a whole new world and its unique characters that are an essential part of all PNR books, but Elizabeth Hunter writes smart storylines with drama, mystery and intrigue that keep you madly turning pages, and of course gorgeous romance that is both sexy and emotional. It all blends perfectly into her stories, and I loved this one.
This book is a part of the Elemental World series. It’s part of the series of standalones that follow the Elemental Mysteries series – standalones only because they each feature a different couple, and I would strongly recommend reading these books in order so that you can follow the overarching storyline (and just because they’re awesome books!).
Lucian Thrax was introduced in A Fall of Water (Elemental Mysteries, #4). He is a 2,000 year old powerful earth vampire who was left broken hearted by the death of his human lover, and joined in with Gio, Beatrice and the crew in the hunt for the person responsible for disseminating the deadly elixir that is killing both humans and vampires. This book sees his work continuing, with Lucien putting his brilliant healing skills to work to find a cure for the virus that is triggered by the elixir. For years he has concentrated on nothing but his research, blocking out everything else in his life and losing himself in his work.
Dr Makeda Abel is a human researcher who has been working on her own study of blood diseases. When she is brought on to work with Lucien, they are both highly unimpressed – Lucien because he’s a total loner who doesn’t need anybody’s ‘help’, and Makeda because she thinks Lucien is an arrogant, broody asshole (she’s not entirely wrong). Makeda knows all about the vampire world, having lived and worked within it for as long as she can remember. She isn’t intimidated by Lucien and his dangerous moods, and the insta-hate between them sets up a fantastic dynamic – but we know that there is a lot more than that actually going on.
The sexual tension literally hums off the page as Lucien and Makeda battle it out, and when Makeda’s world is literally ripped out from under her, it’s Lucien who is there to help guide her through it, and the shift becomes the catalyst for everything between them to change.
The romance is beautifully written! All of that antagonism turns into a gorgeous love story that is passionate, intense and full of feels, with lots of swoon and a whole lot of sexy time! The connection between Lucien and Makeda is wonderfully developed, and their partnership in all areas of their lives is explored beautifully as they fall deeper and deeper for each other.
But the growing romance is only a part of the story. Lucien and Makeda are in a battle against time to cure the deadly virus, and ancient forces stirring add a great twist as they step up to deal with the problem themselves. There’s lots of intricate plotting and political manoeuvring going on, as well as a lots of time spent exploring vampire abilities and lifestyle, and a whole lot of action, and I could see it all unfolding in front of my eyes. Hunter takes us on a journey across the world as her characters travel from the US to Ethiopia to the Middle East and Europe, and it’s wonderfully written! I felt like I was there and experiencing it all with them, and I loved every moment of it.
Lucien’s sire is Saba, mother of the vampire race, and I loved getting to know her. I loved seeing her in the maternal role that she has with Lucien, but she’s also a totally unapologetic badass, and I thought she, and her fellow Ancients, brought something really special to the story. And fans of the series will be thrilled to know that there are some fantastic cameos. Baojia is a major player (along with his mate, Natalie), and Carwyn, Brigid and Tenzin all make an appearance – and Carwyn continues to be an epic scene stealer, God, I love him!!!

It was a bit of a slow start but once things got going, this book was a fantastic journey full of romance, intrigue, excitement and adventure, and I loved it!

I love this series! I think of it as ‘intelligent PNR’. There’s that creation of a whole new world and its unique characters that are an essential part of all PNR books, but Elizabeth Hunter writes smart storylines with drama, mystery and intrigue that keep you madly turning pages, and of course gorgeous romance that is both sexy and emotional. It all blends perfectly into her stories, and I loved this one.
This book is a part of the Elemental World series. It’s part of the series of standalones that follow the Elemental Mysteries series – standalones only because they each feature a different couple, and I would strongly recommend reading these books in order so that you can follow the overarching storyline (and just because they’re awesome books!).
Lucian Thrax was introduced in A Fall of Water (Elemental Mysteries, #4). He is a 2,000 year old powerful earth vampire who was left broken hearted by the death of his human lover, and joined in with Gio, Beatrice and the crew in the hunt for the person responsible for disseminating the deadly elixir that is killing both humans and vampires. This book sees his work continuing, with Lucien putting his brilliant healing skills to work to find a cure for the virus that is triggered by the elixir. For years he has concentrated on nothing but his research, blocking out everything else in his life and losing himself in his work.
Dr Makeda Abel is a human researcher who has been working on her own study of blood diseases. When she is brought on to work with Lucien, they are both highly unimpressed – Lucien because he’s a total loner who doesn’t need anybody’s ‘help’, and Makeda because she thinks Lucien is an arrogant, broody asshole (she’s not entirely wrong). Makeda knows all about the vampire world, having lived and worked within it for as long as she can remember. She isn’t intimidated by Lucien and his dangerous moods, and the insta-hate between them sets up a fantastic dynamic – but we know that there is a lot more than that actually going on.
She tempted him on every level. Her mind. Her body. Her softness and her arrogance. The scent of her blood called to him.
But she was human. She was mortal. She would die like all the rest, and his heart…
That ancient organ could only take so much.
The sexual tension literally hums off the page as Lucien and Makeda battle it out, and when Makeda’s world is literally ripped out from under her, it’s Lucien who is there to help guide her through it, and the shift becomes the catalyst for everything between them to change.

The romance is beautifully written! All of that antagonism turns into a gorgeous love story that is passionate, intense and full of feels, with lots of swoon and a whole lot of sexy time! The connection between Lucien and Makeda is wonderfully developed, and their partnership in all areas of their lives is explored beautifully as they fall deeper and deeper for each other.
Their love had been birthed in violence and politics and strife.
You are my peace.
But the growing romance is only a part of the story. Lucien and Makeda are in a battle against time to cure the deadly virus, and ancient forces stirring add a great twist as they step up to deal with the problem themselves. There’s lots of intricate plotting and political manoeuvring going on, as well as a lots of time spent exploring vampire abilities and lifestyle, and a whole lot of action, and I could see it all unfolding in front of my eyes. Hunter takes us on a journey across the world as her characters travel from the US to Ethiopia to the Middle East and Europe, and it’s wonderfully written! I felt like I was there and experiencing it all with them, and I loved every moment of it.
Lucien’s sire is Saba, mother of the vampire race, and I loved getting to know her. I loved seeing her in the maternal role that she has with Lucien, but she’s also a totally unapologetic badass, and I thought she, and her fellow Ancients, brought something really special to the story. And fans of the series will be thrilled to know that there are some fantastic cameos. Baojia is a major player (along with his mate, Natalie), and Carwyn, Brigid and Tenzin all make an appearance – and Carwyn continues to be an epic scene stealer, God, I love him!!!
“Hello!” Carwyn’s voice was loud enough to cause a wince. “Get that out of your system yet?”
“Is sex something that’s supposed to get out of your system?”
Carwyn grinned. “Not if you’re doing it right.”

It was a bit of a slow start but once things got going, this book was a fantastic journey full of romance, intrigue, excitement and adventure, and I loved it!

The excitement I get when a new Elizabeth Hunter book is coming out is almost second to none, particularly for the Elemental books. I'm sure it's not normal to feel such depth of emotion for a set of fictional characters. There is a special little place in my heart for Gio, Carwyn and the gang. If I had only one grumble it was that we didn't get to meet Gio and Beatrice again but then, we can't have too many fire vampires in one place can we? ;-)
So this is about Lucien whom I loved in A Fall of Water and Makeda, yet another wonderful character to add to the ranks. Hers and Lucien's was a stormy relationship and I loved watching it develop. The pure emotion that comes through Elizabeth Hunter's words is stunning, true art in words. The story introduces Makeda and see's her go to work with Lucien and Baojia on researching a cure for Elixr. I have to say I saw super excited to learn that this was the end of the story arc, started so long ago in A Hidden Fire. After a traumatic transformation into vampire, Lucien takes Makeda to Ethiopia (I have to say it's never a country that's been on my wish list but it is now!) and from there around Europe. I particularly enjoyed the more intimate relationship developed with the Ancients, and I loved Kato! He is just all sorts of awesome.
The last 30% of the book was just a non stop roller coaster and the final battle was brilliant, I had such an amazing visual. I was with them every step of the way. Even Tenzin and Carwyn get to join in on the fun. Tenzin as ever had me laughing, her character is a true high light of these books and she just shines through them - can't wait to see her and her life coach again :-)

If you have not read the previous books in the Elemental World series, I highly suggest you do; not just to get some of the background for this story, but because Ms. Hunter's writing is worth it.
A Stone-Kissed Sea digs deeper into the story of Lucien Thrax, an ancient vampire who has forgotten more than he remembers, and Makeda Abel, a respected doctor. Together they are tasked with finding a cure for Elixir, a drug that is devastating both the human and vampire worlds. The story takes you across the globe from the rainy West Coast to Ethiopia, where Lucien and Makeda must use their brains and their instincts to protect themselves and their respective worlds.
I loved seeing well-known and loved characters from Ms. Hunter's other books making an appearance in this book, and although they play a decent sized role, they do not steal the spotlight from Lucien and Makeda. Instead, they play a supporting role that is both funny and necessary to the overall storyline. I am a huge Baojia fan and was thrilled to see him play both a major and minor role where needed throughout the book.
Ms. Hunter truly is an artist in her use of the written word, and despite this book being "paranormal," you really do feel you are watching the scenes unfold in front of you as you read. A Stone-Kissed Sea does not disappoint the casual reader or the voraciuos book-lover. * EXPECT A LITTLE BIT OF SPOILERAGE! PURISTS, NO NEED TO READ FURTHER*
This was one very exciting read, ladies and gents! I am so glad a major story arch has come to an end. And yes, I'm talking about Elixir.
I noticed how the quality of Elizabeth's writing shot up massively in the last year, and A Stone-Kissed Sea is definitely not an exception. There are a few great things about this book I want to talk about.
The Romance.
Makeda and Lucien are both complex, rich characters. They start as brilliant scientists forced to work together and none too happy about the fact. Still, while they are fighting and bickering there is a persistent thought in the back of their heads, that they are attracted to each other, and it pisses them both off. Only when Makeda is turned and can not hide her hungers including a sexual one for Lucien, he starts wooing her. I would not call either of them adorable, but they are piercingly sincere in their feelings for each other, and the romance is slow-burn, which I always savor. Also, the sex is earthy and freaking hot.
The Science.
I loved their research into Elixir's cure. It was fascinating and at the same time accessible enough for the layman. Makeda's approach to her own vampirism is also scientific which allows her to gain control of her nature much faster than usual. Yes, the geek in me rejoiced.
The Background.
Apart from romantic deliciousness, this book has absolutely gorgeous descriptions of Ethiopia, Alitea and vampiric courts. They are lush and vivid, dramatic and a little bit magical. There is opulence, there is majestic nature, there are smells of rain and flowers and all sorts of other attractive things, which is why I think Miss Hunter's writing has evolved so much. It's much more lyrical these days.
The Supporting Cast.
The ancient vampires were stealing limelight, to be honest. Saba was like the force of nature and at the same time down to earth. Kato, Ziri and even Arosh really piqued my interest, and I hope they'll get their own books eventually. Even Tenzin made an appearance.
The Plot.
Finally, the story delivered and some.There is a lot happening, a lot of dramatic and exciting stuff which will turn things around in the future books, and it was all done amidst usual careful political manoeuvering typical for vampires. I enjoyed the hell out of it.
I kind of want to say: "Come for Romance, Stay for Science!" because this was so much more than paranormal romance, more of a geeky paranormal fantasy with a sweeping story arch. Loved it, totally recommended.

Я, кстати, заметила насколько качество книг Элизабет улучшилось в этом году. Она прямо вышла на новые уровень, и Поцелованное Камнем Море в этом плане - не исключение. Я хочу выделить особо понравившиеся мне аспекты книги:
Романтическая линия.
Оба, Люсьен и Македа - шикарные, сложные, яркие характеры. Оба - блестящие учёные, вынужденные работать вместе в поиске панацеи против Эликсира. И пока они грызутся, в и головах сидит тихо мысль, что они друг другу нравятся, от чего их коробит ещё больше. Только после превращения Македы в вампира она наконец-то признаётся в своей жажде по Люсьену, так как новорождённому вампиру невозможно скрыть какой-либо голод, а Люсьен наконец-то начинает за Македой ухаживать. В общем, роман у них получается медленный, пронзительный и очень чувственный.
Научное исследование.
Сам поиск панацеи оказывается очень интересным и понятным непросвящённому читателю, да и научный подход к вампиризму самой Македы помогает ей добиться контроля над своей натурой гораздо раньше обычных для вампиров сроков. Прямо жутко мне её мысленный процесс категоризации и анализа всего, что с ней происходило, нравился.
Второстепенные персонажи.
Древние вампиры в этой книге конечно рулят. Саба - прямо-таки настоящая природа-мать, страшная в своём гневе, мудрая и умеющая радоваться простым радостям жизни. Като, Зири и Арош тоже очень интересны, да так, что я надеюсь, что у них появятся собственные книги. Даже Тензин ненадолго развлекает своим присутствием.
Место действия.
Помимо вкусной романтической линии, в этой книге очень лирично описаны Эфиопия, Алитэя и вампирские дворы. После яркого описания запахов, атмосферы, пейзажей и обстановки, мне прямо-таки хотелось туда попасть.
Cюжет.
Наконец, сюжетная линия развёрнута и драматична. Добавьте к этому обычные для вампиров Мисс Хантер политические интриги и маннеризмы, и скучать читателю не приходится. Прекрасное паранормальное фэнтези, очень рекомендую всю серию.

Nobody does it better.
I read A LOT. I do A LOT of other things, as well. Life. Life means that there is no price-point that can be placed upon the absolute joy in finding your list of Go-To Authors. Sometimes, I am tempted by (or coerced into) trying new authors and it works out beautifully. I gain a longer list! Sometimes...
A couple of years ago, I was coerced into giving Ms. Hunter a try. Oh, the happiness! So much gratitude to April White!
This book was everything wonderful that is an Elizabeth Hunter novel. The Elemental World has been built in technicolor, through all of the books in this series. All of the characters are three-dimensional and incredibly interesting. The gift that Ms. Hunter wields with her mighty pen (fingertips across the keyboard) in building an epic story within an alternate version of our reality is simply breathtaking.
There were no Lifted Eyebrow Moments, while I read A Stone-Kissed Sea. That is to say, plausibility was never an issue. I just sat in my comfy chair, reading and enjoying the heck out of this story! What an adventure! The plot line was thrilling. Lucien and Makeda were equally endearing. I fell in love with both of them. The vision I gained of Ethiopia, through reading this story, was captivating. I fell in love with Ethiopia. *puts a visit to Ethiopia on Bucket List*
I am left wanting to know more about the other characters...Tenzin and Benjamin Vecchio, a certain fellow named Oleg...and what about Arosh? I'm just sayin'. ;) Thankfully, I have those stories to look forward to next year. During the interim, I shall simply re-read the Elemental books!
The passion and commitment of this author is translated within the pages of her books. It is quite obvious that she has done a great deal of research. It is also evident that she is committed to writing a gorgeous, intelligent, thrillingly romantic story every time she publishes. Her brilliant imagination is most appreciated by this reader. Keep on dreaming the stories, Elizabeth! They are magical!

When you think how can Elizabeth Hunter get any better, she comes out with A Stone-Kissed Sea. I won this book before it was released and I couldn't have been more excited. Makeda is the type of woman I would want my daughters to grow up and be. She is smart and knows what she wants and won't let anyone, even an extremely handsome, arrogant, and equally smart vampire, get in her way. Lucien is a 2000+ year old vampire who's got brains and beauty, he gives Makeda a hard time but also helps her grow mentally. This book was a great novella and covered a bunch of things that happened between the hidden fire series and the upcoming Ben and Tenzin series. While the romance seemed a bit rushed, in the Vampire world they know when they've met their mate and it could be a day or 3 months before they accept it. Hunter paints a picture of Ethiopia that someone like myself who's never gone can see it vividly in my mind. If you like Elizabeth Hunter's other works you will LOVE A Stone-Kissed Sea.

And I was NOT disappointed. Hunter is true-to-form in this latest release in her Elemental World series, but with a twist we haven't seen before: her hero and heroine? They are absolute nerds. Sexy science nerds who solve mysteries using their big, beautiful brains and then they have really hot sex and.... *sigh* -- I love them.
I absolutely loved Lucien and Makeda together, and in my rankings of Hunter's Elemental World couples, they rank behind only Carwyn and Brigid (Carwyn, I'm sure, will always be my favorite, because he is perfect.) If you've enjoyed Hunter's other books in this series, you are going to absolutely LOVE "A Stone-Kissed Sea."

Just now finally getting around to reading this...I let it slip off the top of my virtual pile. Anyway, it was a good read, as always. Came close a couple of times to being a 'fated mate vampire love story of the week'; but the always excellent writing pulled it out. It was nice to finally see some closure to the deadly elixir problem; and also to catch up with some fav characters in this world.

It's very few writers who work I would purchase off the strength of their name, and Elizabeth is one of them. Her pen game is ridiculous good. I love her works, and this book is no exception. When I read her words, I'm immediately drawn into the settings of the particular place, and enamored with her characters. I love that she writes people of color as leads and focal points in her work. I love that while reading her words, I'm googling the specifics of each story. I'm enraptured by the places, cultures and histories that she provides as a backstory for her readers. I love how authentic she is with her research, and the love that she pours into her craft. I haven't finished an Elizabeth Hunter story and was left feeling disappointed. It's something that hasn't happened to me, and at the rate she is going I don't think it ever will be.
I use to want more romance between her characters on page, but at this point after so many books I had to realize the physical side of the relationship might not be present, but the emotional and mental attraction is still there. That's the love that I like reading about. Lucien & Makeda story isn't hearts & rainbows. The attraction was their from the very beginning but being two cerebral people did not help them at all. Lucien being as old as he is, is attracted to the human. Something that he didn't want, but he couldn't deny her brains is what pushed him over the edge. Makeda is a type A personality. She knows what she wants, she's blunt, doesn't believe in small talk. Her family knows the existence of vampires, her dad is under a powerful vampire aegis means Makeda gets to work on her life's work in a wonderful lab. When news comes to certain allies regarding Elixir Makeda name is out their for her brilliance in studying hematology. She moves to California working with Lucien who doesn't make it easy for her at all.
I love how Elizabeth creates these strong women characters. Its such a breath of fresh air reading about women who we can look up to. Not only is Makeda smart, but she's resilient in her human life as well as her new born vampire life. She doesn't take much, and opens up to Lucien. He's not without fault, he's still dealing with the death of a lover from a few years ago. He is dealing with his age, and how at his age he's tired, but finding Makeda awoke something in him. This book had a good cast of characters. Alot of information being thrown out there, and made me want to visit some of these places as well.
I won't go far into detail, but I really enjoyed it. It made me go on a binge read of the next books in the series to catch up on. I hope I see some of these people in the future. I highly recommend this series!
I use to want more romance between her characters on page, but at this point after so many books I had to realize the physical side of the relationship might not be present, but the emotional and mental attraction is still there. That's the love that I like reading about. Lucien & Makeda story isn't hearts & rainbows. The attraction was their from the very beginning but being two cerebral people did not help them at all. Lucien being as old as he is, is attracted to the human. Something that he didn't want, but he couldn't deny her brains is what pushed him over the edge. Makeda is a type A personality. She knows what she wants, she's blunt, doesn't believe in small talk. Her family knows the existence of vampires, her dad is under a powerful vampire aegis means Makeda gets to work on her life's work in a wonderful lab. I received this book in return for an honest review.
I found this author by chance one cold frosty morning in January and since then have pretty much read everything she has written.
My first foray was with Gio and Bea in the Elemental Mysteries novels where this story really starts and although this one could be read as a stand alone, it's advisable to read the others for a lot of the back stories and world building.
I never thought there would be another couple to rival Gio and Bea but I find myself drawn to Lucien and Makeda. The characters were perfectly written and as always, you get a sense of their strong feelings for each other. I loved seeing Carwyn again, let's face it, who doesn't love reading about Carwyn. And we also got a glimpse of Tenzin - one of my favourite characters overall. I enjoyed reading more about Saba and the ancients and Lucien's life before Makeda.
Hunter's world building is exceptional and you get a real sense of what it's like in the different places she visits and I know this is down to her extensive research and globetrotting.
I hope this is not the last of the Elemental world as I would really love to read more about all the characters and where their lives have taken them. Maybe a book about all of them could be next?

DON'T MISS THIS BOOK OR THIS AUTHOR.
This book is dreamy. The way the story unfolds had me hooked from the first chapter. I have have read other books by this author but not this series. I actually felt like I was witnessing every scene in person. I developed a deep connection with the characters and can't wait to go back and experience the whole series. This book is in my top ten must read books.

Aah... I'm both sad and excited to see this story-arc come to an end, but what a way to do it! Bring on the ancients, the lush settings, grandiose style, tradition, battle, and, of course, a fiery and explosive couple - I guess even an earth and a water vampire can bring those adjectives to mind...
I savored the story, enjoyed the slow-burn romance, and even the science behind the Elixir. The locations are vividly described, full of scents and colors that help bring to mind a rich world. The ancient vampires vied for the spotlight and honestly, at times they almost stole, but Makeda, even newly turned, shined through. Lucien was a bit perplexing to me, I might be due for a re-read of the series because I remembered him somewhat different. Nonetheless, he is a force and I loved his and Makeda's story-arc, (although, the way he finally admits his feelings is a bit abrupt - he is a man first after all... *winks*).
There is a lot to offer the reader here, but for me it's always the characters. Each time I pick up one of Elizabeth's books I realize how much I missed the Elemental World and its characters - they are vivid, complex, and are so addicting that I can't pick a favorite. (Well, maybe I can - it's always been Carwyn for me - must be those atrocious Hawaiian shirts *laughs*. But each time he steps on the scene I feel giddy. He is always the best side character, with a perfect line to lighten any situation. But I digress...) Here, Elizabeth, gives us an exquisite supporting cast of characters to choose from. They are well-drawn and I can almost see that any of them can be a star of their own story. Thankfully, we also get to visit with some of our favorites from the past: Baojia, Carwyn *googly eyes*, Tenzin, Brigid - all make an appearance - it's a treat (but where were Gio, B and Ben?). I loved them all and having turned the last page - I want more...

This was good, though I didn't like it as much as some of the others in the series. I like the two MCs, and how much they almost balance each other out, especially with their arrogance and almost coldish personality they have. Though I'm not sure if that will humble them or boost their egos even more haha. Even though I liked that about them, I also had a hard time feeling the chemistry between them. I don't know if it is because they are both older characters so they are both supposed to be really mature, and I guess, less passionate, but it made them seem a little less caring and loving towards each other than I felt like they should be.
I did like Lucien, though his personality definitely changed from the other books, and I'm not sure I cared for that too much. I liked him a bit more when he was nicer, instead he did a 180 and had a pretty cold aura about him. I also didn't care about how much his past love life and sexual encounters were brought up. It made his relationship with the heroine seem lesser. I did like the heroine though, especially for the H, because she never took his crap and she didn't give into him right away. She was definitely more smart and mature, sometimes that was good and sometimes that wasn't.
Overall, this was still a great story, and I'm glad we finally are at the end of the elixir plot. I really enjoyed this series, and it's such a unique world with beautiful writing. I'm super excited to start Ben and Tenzin's story though. I feel as if the entire elemental world is a build up to their story because they are such amazing characters. But for now, time to revisit my faves Baojia and Natalie in the last novella of the series!

Ms Hunter is one author many of my friends simply adore. So once in a while I give her books the old college try. But every time her books bore me to tears. I do see and recognise her talent, but I found all her story boring, slow, heavy.
A stone kissed sea is no different, with the added bonus of being unbelievable in all the heroine's reactions. If I'm not wrong I had the same thought also in Giovanni Vecchio's story. I can't even remember her name, but she was a cow too. Not as in"you cow!" insult, but as placid as a cow. Nothing really ruffles them, they're simply perfect (and boring). Here the hero 'vamps' the heroine without her consent. And she never really reacts in any believable way. Oh yes, midway there's a scene where we are shown she's thinking about suicide. But it's just that, a scene. Never have I felt her rage, her bitterness, her anger.
Nor I feel their love, honestly, the one that makes all of this forgivable.
Mostly, I couldn't care less and so wished the story to end.

Well, not surprisingly I loved A Stone Kissed Sea! Lucien and Makeda are just as delicious as the rest of Elizabeth Hunter's characters. Both brilliant and beautiful, and have a hard time getting out of their heads long enough to see what their hearts (and friends) already know. Ahhh.
Since this is the fourth in the Elemental World series, I recommend reading the others first - there are character and story threads that carry over.
Just sad that it was so good, I read it too fast and am now back to waiting for the next book.

Stone Kissed Sea is an antagonists to lovers story done well with some major payoff in the larger Elemental World series arc in addition to the romance. I loved the leading lady Makeda, I loved seeing Baojia, Tensin and Carwyn again. And as much as I am generally jaded with vampires, I liked the vampire-vampire romance and the bits with the ancient vampires too.

The Elixir storyline is finally wrapped up with this book. But that was second to watching Lucien and Makeda's relationship form and grow. We also get visits from several other beloved characters. I love all the different Elemental series!

Elemental World #4
A Stone-Kissed Sea by Elizabeth Hunter is the book that finally finishes the "Elixir" storyline in the Elemental Universe, and it features none other than everyone's favorite vampire doctor, the now healed Elixir survivor, Dr. Lucien Thrax. I have to admit that now that he's healed I'm not certain that the good doctor is as likable as he was when he was ailing, but what's a healer to do when a human female doctor is forced upon him with the expectation that he partner with her to find the elusive cure he'd already spent years searching for? And the fact that he finds her attractive simply annoys him further.
When Dr. Makeda Abel accepted her forced transfer to the Northern California research facility, headed by Dr. Thrax, she knew there would be resistance and reluctance from the vampire she was supposed to partner with, but his surliness and animosity made no sense. They were on the same side, weren't they? And why did his anger make him even more appealing to her?
This book is one of the many written in the Elemental Universe which consists of the three series: Elemental Mysteries, Elemental World and Elemental Legacy. I recommend that the books be read in order I have provided below for you to receive the most enjoyment of the overall story arcs.

This was one of my favorites from the Elemental World series. It is the story of Lucien and Makeda. Lucien first showed up in the later half of the Elemental Mysteries series. Both of these characters are research doctors who are working on a cure for the Elixir. They don’t like each other but that eventually changes for the better.
I enjoyed the writing and the many characters that make an appearance. The love story and the plot of the book were well told. If you have enjoyed the Elemental World series so far then you won’t be disappointed with this book. Well recommended.

The Elixir virus is still plaguing both human and immortal populations when the latest installment of Hunter's ELEMENTAL WORLD series begins, but this time we're focused on finding a cure (for vampires without a living sire) for the disease.
To that end, one of the first vampires we met who was suffering the effects of the virus, Lucien Thrax, son of Saba (perhaps the very first vampire), is recruited to head the team of scientists selected to study the virus and determine a course of treatment.
Three years later, all but one of the infected humans in his care have died, and though he's created a reliable test to reveal those afflicted, he is no closer to creating a cure than when he began.
Enter physician and researcher Makeda Abel, a human who specializes in blood disorders . . .
Personalities clash, territorial boundaries are crossed, and intense dislike masks growing attraction.
I feel like I say this every time I review a new Hunter installment, but I don't read much paranormal romance--I can count on one hand the PNR series I make an effort to keep current with. I enjoy romance, but it's always been secondary to an action-focused plot, so my one complaint is that for the first half of the book, I felt the romance overshadowed the main plot.
The need to find a cure for the Elixir virus was present, but it took a backseat to Lucien and Makeda's antagonistic relationship. Similarly, I felt Makeda's
And considering how great the characters were, I couldn't help but be somewhat disappointed, b/c they were capable of being so much more than their HEA.
BUT.
Just past the midway point, the plot expanded, and the complexities I've come to expect from a one of Hunter's series were present and accounted for.
Or maybe research just isn't my thing.
Whatever. Just past the midway point, Lucien and Makeda get out of the lab/off the isolated island, and begin planning the permanent demise of the Bad Guys responsible for perpetuating the Elixir situation, and I no longer had cause to complain about a lack of action.
How does it end?
Read it yourself and find out.
I will say that A STONE-KISSED SEA draws this storyarc to a conclusion, opening the door wide for the next chapter in the lives of the characters inhabiting this world that we've come to love. Whether that means we should brace for the alluded to Ben/Tenzin spinoff (full-length novels??) or something else entirely, your guess is as good as mine . . . BUT. A girl can hope. *waves Ben/Tenzin flag* Regardless, I highly recommend you acquaint yourself with what Hunter has to offer now.

I feel like I say this every time I review a new Hunter installment, but I don't read much paranormal romance--I can count on one hand the PNR series I make an effort to keep current with. I enjoy romance, but it's always been secondary to an action-focused plot, so my one complaint is that for the first half of the book, I felt the romance overshadowed the main plot.
The need to find a cure for the Elixir virus was present, but it took a backseat to Lucien and Makeda's antagonistic relationship. Similarly, I felt Makeda's
And considering how great the characters were, I couldn't help but be somewhat disappointed, b/c they were capable of being so much more than their HEA.
BUT.
Just past the midway point, the plot expanded, and the complexities I've come to expect from a one of Hunter's series were present and accounted for.
Or maybe research just isn't my thing.
Whatever. Just past the midway point, Lucien and Makeda get out of the lab/off the isolated island, and begin planning the permanent demise of the Bad Guys responsible for perpetuating the Elixir situation, and I no longer had cause to complain about a lack of action.

I will say that A STONE-KISSED SEA draws this storyarc to a conclusion, opening the door wide for the next chapter in the lives of the characters inhabiting this world that we've come to love. Whether that means we should brace for the alluded to Ben/Tenzin spinoff (full-length novels??) or something else entirely, your guess is as good as mine . . . BUT. A girl can hope. *waves Ben/Tenzin flag* Regardless, I highly recommend you acquaint yourself with what Hunter has to offer now.

Five amazing stars! Okay I admit I love Elizabeth Hunter's Elemental World and the Vampires & humans that live in it.
In this story we are reintroduced to Dr. Lucien Thrax, a centuries old Earth Vampire who has lost his human lover and almost his own life to the "Elixir". He is given the task by his sire to come up with a cure for the Elixir that kills humans while infecting and then killing the Vampires.
Pulled from a project researching cure for "thalassemia" blood disorder by her boss and family's benefactor, who happens to be a vampire, Dr Makeda Abel is reassigned to work on the problem of Elixir as a collaborator with Lucien.
Both of these characters are extremely intelligent and even a bit arrogant about their intelligence and successful in their chosen fields. Well, of course sparks fly when these two meet and are forced to work together on this project. It's rather heartwarming to watch these two butt heads and frustrate each other at every turn - even more so because they both are denying the pull that they feel towards each other.
As Makeda is racing to share a possible breakthrough with Lucian a tragic accident occurs and forces Lucien to begin to admit what he feels for Makeda. Facing the prospect of her death or turning, Lucien has to make a very hard decision that may lose him the opportunity to be with Makeda either way.
And that's just the beginning!
I loved the character of Makeda - Here's a highly intelligent woman, successful in her career, loyal to her family, with a huge heart of compassion and empathy. Yet, she still feels alone and struggles with all that means in her life and career.
As the story continues - I love, no wait adore the patience with which Lucien has with Makeda - the connection between them is as the the tide is to the shore. Inevitable - Magnetic - Inescapable. Even though his first and strongest instinct is to protect Makeda, Lucien learns that sometimes it's okay to let her take risks. I love that they are the balance for each other - and that together they are better.
I highly recommend this book - but it's definitely best to start at the beginning with this series - because even though we are introduced to a new couple in each story - the plot line that connects, arcs and is woven throughout is best understood from the beginning.

Once again Elizabeth Hunter hits it out of the park. Right now there are very few authors who can create an engaging world and series and keep the readers coming back for more. From the first line of A Hidden Fire to the last line of A Stone Kissed Sea, Ms Hunter has had me in her clutches and I have never wanted to leave.
A Stone Kissed Sea is the answer to all the burning questions readers had in the previous Elemental World books. The main characters, Lucius (yummy Lucius) and Makeda, have been brought together to solve the threat of Elixir. Honestly there were times where I didn’t believe they would accomplish this goal. Between their egos and substantial brains knocking heads, and the sheer evilness of those behind this drug, it was touch and go. But Ms. Hunter doesn’t disappoint and the journey will keep you on your toes.
The romance is well written and infused with passion and humor in abundance. This makes the book so much more enjoyable. Lucius and Makeda both resist their attraction to each other but it is quite clear to those around them and the readers as well, that they were meant to be. Their relationship is built upon and it is quite lovely to see their progression from wary colleagues to true partners.
Ms. Hunter also provides us with an in-depth look into the world of the ancients and let me just say, you will NOT be disappointed, they are both scary and endearing. They make you want to jump up and scream “Take that you stupid immortals, the REAL gods have arrived” LOL. Can I just say, Saba?? OH YEAH BABY!
All in all this book was all that I hoped it would be and more than I could ever imagine. It has tied up a lot of loose ends and for that I am very thankful to you Ms. Hunter. Thank you for bringing your words and your characters to life. Thank you for not limiting your world to one that is lacking in diversity. Makeda and Lucien’s ties to Ethiopia made the book even more interesting. And the genius that is Ms. Hunter managed to avoid the tropes and stereotypes that one finds when people speak of people of color, or even people from Africa. So as someone from Africa, as a lover of Romance I urge you to read this book and the books before it because you will be transformed.

I enjoyed getting a chance to really get to know Doctor Lucien Thrax after having met him in earlier novels. This revealed a great deal about him as an individual while also giving us the chance to meet his Sire, Saba, and the other ancients who have made cursory appearances since the original Elemental Mystery novels. The characters have all become more textured and nuanced as the series has progressed giving more depth and life to the world they inhabit. Knowing that this is the last novel set in this particular world made it bittersweet.
Lucien has been working on a cure for Elixir for the past three years without any luck, though he has had a few breakthroughs in detecting usage. The elimination of Elixir is very personal to him due to a loss he suffered because of it, it has also caused him to build a wall around his heart. Dr. Makeda Abel is a human under the aegis of Katya who has been funding the work of Lucien into the Elixir problem. Katya has also been funding the research of Makeda into human blood diseases and their possible cures.
Katya decides that even though Lucien has been working very hard and is making her money he could use some help. Makeda is sent to collaborate with Lucien, even though he would prefer to work alone. Lucien for his part does not take it well and does everything he can to make things difficult for Makeda, and because she would prefer not to be there she does not immediately fall in line. Though both of them are brilliant they cannot see what is right in front of them.
Power, Passion, and Politics. These are three things which drive the vampires as well as the humans in all our stories. You get a healthy dose of all three here as things go from good to bad to worse and back to good again. There is some good action along with a few steamy scenes that are fairly tame, though still hot enough for most. I believe fans will be more than happy with how things play out here.
** I listened to this for my second go with this as I have for the previous books in the series. It is just as compelling when listened to as when you read it. The narrator is fantastic and gives voice and life to all the characters. Enjoy this both ways.

I have to admit — I had a lot of mixed feelings when going into this book. First, was Hunter explained that it was the last of the Elixir arc and I still had a ton of questions. Second, with the way the blurb is written, I was worried that the book was going to be too “science” and I wouldn’t be able to understand what all was going on.
Thankfully, in regards to the second worry that I had, Hunter wrote it in a way that I was still able to follow along and enjoy the story. Even the science parts that were in it where written so that people who aren’t huge science people could understand.
In regards to the second worry — literally all questions that I had were completely answered in this book. I wasn’t left wondering what would happen next, or if there was going to be a follow up book to fully explain everything.
Lucien and Makeda’s characters were really well written. They were both equally complex and hard to get connected to at first, but as the story progressed and you learn more and more about them, they started to make more sense. And while separate they are complex, together the two of them were amazing.
I do have to admit as well, Saba’s character kinda freaked me out a bit. While I did understand that she is young in body, her role in this book shocked me because I wasn’t expecting to meet that side of her. But I’m sure glad that we did.
Overall, if you are a fan of this series, then you will want to read this book. If you haven’t started this series yet, then I wouldn’t recommend starting with this book. Simply because it’s a series that’s best started from the beginning.
