Pat Esden would love to say she spent her childhood in intellectual pursuits. The truth is she was fonder of exploring abandoned houses and old cemeteries. When not out on her own adventures, she can be found in her Northern Vermont home writing about brave, smart women who are determined to protect the people and places they love. She is the author of the contemporary fantasy Dark Heart series, and the Northern Circle Coven series.

I began this journey with Annie and Chase over a year ago with A Hold On Me and now here I am with Reach for You. This has been a ride that gave as good as it got. It showed that there are some pretty strong women out there that will fight for their role in the world, for their love, for their family, for their everything. Annie had to stand up and take charge of her life and make what she wanted become reality. You are truly tested when you know that you must have an enemy as an ally or even one that could turn on you with no warning. That was exactly what Annie had to do to save those she love, but the road still was not easy.

Annie had to battle herself for more than just to love again. I found this one gave me more everything. There was more sorrow, pain, loss, danger, deception, fear. I love this world of the djinn. I find that it was intriguing and entertaining all at the same time. The realm was mystical and dangerous. Secrets untold open up so much more. Chase and Annie had a battle before them. The book shows that you don’t have to literally be together to be together. This was a romance that spanned space and time. They were together and revealed in the times that had together.

This was well written and very much anticipated. I found a strong female lead with the brains, guts, and determination to make that stand even if it cost her the love of her life. She was willing to do what it took to get him out even if she could not keep him. Pat Esden gave me a read that I will love to read again. The entire series now available will be one that I start with one book one day then move on to the next book the next day. I would read this again.

Pick up the latest addition to the Dark Heart series.

Esden wraps up her Dark Heart trilogy with this satisfying book that's part New Age paranormal romance and thriller. The second book ended in disaster, with Annie's mother and her beloved Chase trapped in the realm of djinn. Annie is a strong young woman and she's easy to relate to, as she yearns to know the mother who vanished when she was five and to save her future with half-djinn Chase.

For a while, I was afraid the book was developing a love triangle--I really don't like those--but to my relief, the plot took a very different and welcome twist.

Seek out this series if you want contemporary paranormal that steps beyond the over-done tropes of fairies and European mythology. It's refreshing to read about djinn (if you read the actual mythology, whoa, they are seriously creepy, and Esden uses that well) and Annie is a great, down-to-earth heroine.

Reach for You is the third installment in the Dark Heart series that will leave you with that “ahhhh” feeling of satisfaction once you finally put it down...and then pick it back up to read again :) As the final book, Esden did an amazing job wrapping things up while also taking everything to the next level. And I mean everything. It left me feeling emotionally satisfied, and at the same time, kept me on the edge of my seat with non-stop action.

I loved seeing Annie’s character grow throughout the series, and for that, book three will not disappoint. She faces some tremendous challenges in this novel and it showed me what a strong woman and well-rounded character she truly is. Esden really pushes her to the edge.

It was definitely an emotional ride that tugged at my heartstrings. While the book still gave me sexy and steamy, the softer side of the romance was so intense and had me daydreaming about Chase. I couldn’t believe how fast I read it. The fast-paced adventure will have you staying up all night saying “just one more chapter.”

Esden brings her world of djinn to life with her magical descriptions. It was beautifully dark and mysterious. It drew me and kept a hold on me (ha! get it?) right until the end. I loved getting lost in this world. This will be a fantastic re-read!

I can’t wait to see what Esden does next and if she will continue to bring us more hot djinn! Yes please :)

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In this third installment of the Dark Heart series, Annie has just had to leave her love/half-ifrit Chase back in the realm of the djinn after a failed attempt to save her mother.

She's back in Moonhill and trying to find Lotli, the shamaness who got them to the realm with her magic flute, and figure out what her cousin Selena's boyfriend is mixed up in.

There's skulking around in shady clubs, another encounter with Chase's mother, and a betrayal that will put Annie in danger of losing Chase's love, just when he needs it the most.

Since they're separate for most of the book, it wasn't until they saw eachother again that I realized I was speeding through the suspenseful action of the rescue mission to finally experience their sweet interactions again. I love how Chase is a slave-warrior but totally open about his feelings for Annie.

The ending was very sastisfying, even Chase's half-brother, just barely introduced in the second book gets some interesting developments. Of course, Malphic ends the book with a cryptic pronouncement that leaves Esden open for yet another round of interesting adventures with (hopefully hot) djinn. As each book in this series got better and better, its definitely worth reading all the way through to Reach For You :) If only for the risque jelly donut references :)

This series keeps getting better. The way it has grown and developed into a complex yet simple to follow story keeps your interest. Lotli becomes a character I want to tear apart with my bare hands. Chase is at a breaking point and it is all up in the air which direction things will go. Things are deeply dark again here in this third book. Yet Annie has family to help and support her this time. The drama is ongoing and keeps you hanging on until the end. A very intense read.

This was a good and exciting story with strong female characters and a lot of paranormal energy. I was a little lost because this is a trilogy finale which is my fault, not the authors, as I just discovered the story. There was a lot of action, romance, and suspense and I hope to read more by this author in the future.

Review:

Did I like this story? Yes. Was I completely lost? Yes.

That is my own fault though. I did not realize that this was the third book into the series. For me these really should be read in order, so now to find the time to go back and read the first two books in the series especially after reading this one. I loved the story and action. It was a well-done Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance. I loved Annie, she is strong, smart and goes after what she wants. The romance/intimate moments were done in a way to enhance the story. I want to see Annie and Chase together and I only just started reading the series. I also want to learn more about what happened in previous books that lead to this point, my curiosity is piqued.

I liked this and will like it more I am sure once I read the other books in the series.

I have reviewed the first two books of Esden's Dark Heart Series before. These two books are high on romance and adventure. The third book is a fitting end to the series, with a definite maturing of the main character that I find appealing.

Annie Fremont is back, and I mean that in more than a "returns in book 3" kind of way. In this book, as Annie and her family go to rescue the love of her life, half-efrit Chase, Annie is in charge. She's calling all the shots, making all the right moves, and proving to be brave, compassionate and smart. Gone is the indecisive young woman from the first two books. In her place is an adult who knows what she has to do to save her man.

This is a book about family, what it means to belong to one, and how important building and keeping family together are. It's also a book about forgiveness and acceptance. Will Annie keep Chase from losing his way as he transitions into his djinn nature, or will she find a way to save the Chase she knows? Honestly, I didn't see Annie's solution from the way she had been, but what she does follows so beautifully from her character progression, I was so pleased.

The book seems less about sex this time, and more about emotion and relationship, and while Edsen delivers on hot, steamy sex still, the book focuses on hot, steamy, solid emotion. I was left with the true feeling of love story on all levels ater reading all three books.

This book released June 27th. Go get it. And if you haven't yet, go get the first two as well.

In 2017, I downloaded books 1 & 2 of the Dark Heart Novels, and found myself exploring not a world of vampires or shape shifters, but genies. In the 3rd book, Reach for You, Esden continues to blow me away with her creation of the magical djinn realm and her introduction of a secret cultish society about which I will say nothing else for fear of writing a spoiler.

And then there’s Lotli. I love this character almost as much as the three-book spanning love story between Annie and Chase. I hope to see more of these sub-characters, especially Jaquith and Selena, if there’s to be a 4th installment.

Can I recommend this series? Absolutely. And when you pick up your copies, pay attention to the little signposts inserted before each chapter. They provide hints and insights into Annie’s reality and the djinn world that you won’t want to miss.

I sped through the end of this last night (staying up way past my bedtime!) because I wanted to know if the whole story ended the way I wanted. And I can't tell anyone the answer now!

But I found this third novel in the series to be the wrap-up that the series needed. I got the answers I didn't have after Book 2, and was satisfied with Chase and Annie's story. (Trying to avoid spoilers).

I'm definitely looking forward to what Esden has coming next ;o)
