This book is as much fun on the inside as it is on its zany covers. Two valuable lessons learned: 1) snorting melted vcr tape can put you in in hazardous Meltoid territory, and 2) your conscience is nice, but it might get you turned into a puddle. Stock up on red licorice and enjoy.

I'm not exactly sure what M. P. Johnson is doing here but it is lots of fun watching him do it. The subtitle "Forgotten B-Movies of the 80" says it all. Neon Trash is a love story to those films that no one has seen and most people won't even try to. Fortunately there are a few people out there, like the author and myself, that lives for this stuff. Johnson in the first article, makes a case for loving B-movies (let's be frank. Most of 80s DIY movies are really D-movies) but makes a better case ...more

I come from the same era of scrutinizing badly photocopied catalogs, looking for rare VHS finds or bootlegs, etc. The garage sales. The used book shops that had a VHS section. For people like me, this is an absolute treat. I love the world in these pages. If you love B-flicks, you need this book in your collection.

I have to admit that the extent of my experience with B movies in the 80s was pretty much from Up All Night on USA (thanks Rhonda Shear). I think I only saw one Troma flick during that time, the first Toxie. Neon Trash made me feel like I missed out on some great stuff. We love to sit around watching really bad movies and most of the ones in this book would fit right in.

Even so many of the reviews were godamn hilarious and I don't feel like I need to see them. This is a quick read, great for a l

Johnson's Neon Trash is a heck of a lot of fun and an incredibly original read. It's a book about forgotten B-movies from the 80s, only all the movies are fiction. Johnson creates a universe through fabricated B-movies that read like Troma films on steroids.

This book is incredibly short. It includes many reviews of invented B-movies, interviews with some of the actors / directors who star in these B-movies and are referenced in the reviews. And ends with some deleted scenes from the film Neon Me
