(I received a digital copy of this book for free. Thanks to author Scarlet Risque.)

This was an adult contemporary story, about a girl trained to be an assassin.

Mimi was an okay character and she seemed dedicated to her job. I was surprised at how often she suggested killing people though when she’d had such a hard job killing a chicken during training.

The storyline in this was about Mimi being rescued by The White Queen, and being trained to kill. She was then sent on a mission in China, trying

Sequel to the hourglass which I would recommend you read first. Both are available on kindle unlimited.

Blue Orca is about vengeance for the betrayal in book one. Mimi has her target in mind and will do anything to get the job done. Conan Casey is the target and the destination is Shanghai. The Blue Orca takes on a new identity to adjust to her new surroundings. She is willing to seduce and manipulate her way into getting what she wants.

This book is a complete story however it sets up the next

The second volume of this saga is different, in many aspects, from the first one, despite having the same assumptions and the same settings: this story is focused much more on the human and social implications of the events, with many connotations that sound even melancholy and profound. Despite this the narrative does not lose the fundamental qualities of an espionage book: intrigues of power, luxury, secrets, twists, action and a refined eroticism. And this certainly does not disappoint the ...more

Very good follow up to the series opener. I'd recommend reading Red Hourglass first before Blue Orca, although Blue Orca would stand on its own.

The main character survives a very difficult childhood, overcoming one heartbreak after another. There is one incident in particular at the end of act one that I won't spoil by describing, but it is quite memorable.

I found myself rooting for the main character and flipping pages quickly to find out what would happen next. I do recommend giving the

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. This book arrived in my inbox, so I read and give it a review as requested.
First of all, I did not read the first book, neither did I have to, as it seems that the author explained the crucial points in the book. Mimi's life story may be harsh, but she is given a second life by Mother. In exchange for feeling belonged, a good education and a full belly, Mimi is required to be obedient and ready to serve.
The story is great, the plot

I really thought I would like it but, I'm sad to say, that this was not for me.

The Writing:
We read all time from Mimi's POV, maybe reading from another POV would have been good.
The book dragged out, I read the pages very slowly and wasn't into the story very much.

The Story:
When I read the synopsis I thought 'This sounds amazing' and though I think this story has some amazing ideas, concepts and critical ideas/perspectives they were

Books and movies are full of stories where the young heroine is cast out into the streets to make her way in the cruel world and then she finds herself picked up by a guardian angel, who promises to feed, clothe, and house our plucky heroine in exchange for the heroine doing everything that is asked for by her benefactor. Unfortunately for Mimi, the heroine of Blue Orca, that happens to her twice. The second time, Mimi is taken in by a woman known as the White Queen and, like the character of ...more
