Acute, like the three angles of a triangle. Acute , as in its three sharp points. Acute is the tragic relationship between three Miku, Kaito, and Luka! Once they were all friends making songs--but while Kaito might make a duet with Miku, or a duet with Luka, a love song all three of them sing together can only end in sorrow! Based on the song with over 4.4 million combined views on YouTube and NicoNico.
• Hatsune Miku is an international pop phenomenon! • Like the Hatsune Miku titles Mikubon and Rin-Chan Now !, Acute is based on a famous Vocaloid music video. • A drama rather than a comedy, Acute is a different side of Hatsune Miku. • Four pages in full color.
A short/simple, tragic love triangle manga based on a song, with the cast played by Vocaloids, Kaito, Luka Megurine, and Hatsune Miku.
There's not a lot to write home about this manga. Asahina's art is very pretty, and works well during the tense moments. The story is straight forward and finishes up quickly. The ending is a little ambiguous as to exactly what happens, which is probably on purpose due to the nature of the song.
Personally, I found this unintentionally comedic
★★★☆☆ 3/5. You'll probably enjoy this a lot more if you enjoy the Vocaloids/the song, but the art is nice and the story is simple so newcomers probably can get some enjoyment still.
It was short, bitter sweet - and showed the love between 2 girls and 1 boy. I won't say more because i will spoil the story. But its great, i am glad i read it - i recommend it to any vocaloid fan.
So when I saw this one I just had to have it, the blurb sounded a bit like School Days.
I have to say the manga didn't entirely work for me. On the one hand it was pretty good, but there were enough things that felt rushed. The way Miku just went from sweet girl to yandere was too weird and disjointed. The ending was rushed and felt off, like something was missing. It just felt like everyone was trying to please Miku.
I also didn't get why Miku went full hate mode? Yes, I can imagine. You both made a promise, you both love Kaito. But really, Luka didn't do that much wrong from what I could see they didn't even do anything until that day/moment that Miku saw them together. Yet, Miku went immediately in OMG they must have been together for so long, that explains everything, um, no. No, just no. I am sure if Miku had just talked with Luka, in a normal way, or even Kaito, in a normal way, they might have come to a good conversation and maybe all this crap didn't have to happen. But oh no, Miku clearly wants her onii-chan for herself and will do anything to get him. No matter if he is sad because of this all. She doesn't care about his feelings, she only cares about her own feelings.
Also I am sure that Luka felt terrible that she wasn't able to keep the promise or her feelings at bay. Luka is a sweet girl and you could see how she felt about it. How guilty she felt. But what do you want her to do just stick to you and never have a chance at love? To always miss something in her life? To just walk about from the one she likes?
But oh no Miku just had to go full yandere and get pissed at stuff. Really girl, yes, she made a promise, yes it is not nice to break a promise, but really? Do you want your sister and the one you call brother sad and hurting because they can't have each other? Why can't you just talk about it and get to a rational solution? You can't just crop up feelings like that. I know it must hurt that Kaito isn't falling in love with you, but seriously, if this is how you react to rejection I wish you good luck with other stuff. :|
So yes, I was really hating on Miku for being so a total baby and psycho about things. Really, if that was my friend? And she threatened to kill me? I would just say, NOPE and go away and find a safe place, maybe even go to the police. Especially if she isn't reasonable about things.
I felt sorry for Luka. I just wanted to hug her and tell her to speak up. To not let Miku roll over her like that.
The ending? Meh. I already knew what would happen as the story progressed, but I hadn't expected those last pages. Really? That is how it will end? Meh! I expected something better, but in the end nothing is truly solved.
The art was absolutely gorgeous though and that is what kept me reading on. Plus I was curious about the ending.
Unlike what I expected by the description of this book the three Vocaloid characters are not singers but childhood friends that become intricate parts of one another's lives at a young age. Each person get's their own chapter explaining in a nice simple way about their past and how their fated meeting affects them then we get the final chapter as choices are made, love is lost, and sacrifices are made when one of the tree loses touch with reality and changes their little worlds forever.
All in all it was a good story about obsession where all of the characters had their own flaws that lead to a dark (but not completely dark) ending that was enhanced by teh mangakas great art style that shows when reality begins to slip. Of course the players in the story are still pretty young so some of the decisions made are kind of flawed but I enjoyed the story in the end in this single volume manga. :)
I loved it. I found the song first, and immediately loved it. After finding the manga, I just had to read it. With amazing art and a fun plot twist, it gave life to Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka and KAITO. I will never look at the song the same way again. The cliffhanger left me wanting more!
This manga has quite a simple, short story, as it will when taking the length into consideration. Personally, I have a hate-love relationship with it. I would like to know where the story would go and there are several loose ends to tie, like Kaito's backstory.
I personally like the ending. It's horrible, yes, but I'm horrible too. It's really interesting to see a human decend into madness, so I enjoy that aspect of it. The art is really good. I love the way the artist draws with the contrast between sweet and dark things.
I probably wouldn't recommend this manga to a newcomer in the manga scene, as it might be off-putting and cause a bad impression. I really enjoyed this read, though, so if you think it's something for you, I recommend it!
Miku went kind of crazy and I don't think a high schooler would act that way. She was so innocent and then she became an evil, crazy person. And Kaito should not have listened to Miku because she was underage. Also, the ending was very vague; I didn't understand if Luka broke up with Kaito or not. It was a complete 360 to Miku's personality.
I may have forgotten about how the subculture of vocaloid storytelling is obsessed with things getting really dark...also jealousy! so fun! still an interesting read that captured the tone of the song it's based on! felt a little unhinged and the pacing was hard to stay with, but a short and interesting read nonetheless
I thought this book was amazing and the art was amazing as well! Its got some romance, friendship, betrayal and a bit of horror towards the end! I think it really gave a interesting story to the song its based on!
If you're doing a one-shot self contained story, you better make me care about your characters super fast. If you don't I'm not going to be that invested when the story turns tragic. This was a no for me and I can't recommend it.
I love the song itself and the art style for this but honestly, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. the ending didn't make a lot of sense to me, and I felt like some parts could've been explored better- kaito's backstory for example
I love the art, but it didn't really make it look like the Acute I was expecting. It's cute art but didn't really fit in my opinion. But they got the story right, so I'll give them that.
I really enjoyed this story for the most part but that ending was pretty lame. Luka should make some better choices regarding her friendships cause girl, that wasn't smart at all. 😬
It was pretty good for the most part and I'm glad it added more insight to the story. I do feel that it should be a longer book, there's so much potential to make it a series.
miku is a nut in this omg. Like shes a kid and needs to chill. this was an interesting short read. I was just like wow because of how crazy miku turns out. otherwise not bad.
