Buried in obligation, Aveline Michaels is in over her head, caring for her bed-ridden mother, taking college courses, and working her ass off to make ends meet. When she finally agrees to let loose and take one night off from her duties, everything changes.
College student, Greer McQueen knows meeting Aveline face-to-face is exactly what he wants. After all, he's wanted her since the day they met in his online class. But when she learns that he's "the" Greer McQueen, bassist for Rusted & Reckless, her all-time favorite band, everything changes.
Aveline can't possibly give up on her responsibilities to be somebody's groupie. And there's no chance Greer will give up on her.
USA Today Bestselling Author, Charlotte Casey, has roots in country that go back to singing Achy Breaky Heart in her car seat at the top of her lungs. She finds nothing sweeter and nothing more desirable than a southern man with drawl. A romantic at heart, Charlotte couldn’t imagine reading or writing anything that doesn’t revolve around romance. Her stories may be fiction but her characters will leap from the pages and pull you into their world.
Greer McQueen is not your typical college student, he is also the bassist for hit band Rusted & Reckless. Greer has kept his anonymity by taking classes online and with that he meets fellow student Aveline Michaels. Aveline has no idea who Greer really is and when an opportunity presents itself Greer's bandmates takes matters into their own hands and surprises Aveline who is watching the concert.
Aveline doesn't know what to think, their is definitely chemistry and flirting going on with Greer but does he feel the same? Taking a chance, Aveline agrees to spend time with Greer to see where this is all going, but learning to spend time with a band and an unexpected turn has Aveline questioning if she and Greer really can build something together.
You are immediately swept away by the spirit of this story. Greer I thought was down to earth and was crushing hard on Aveline. Aveline had put her life on hold to take care of her bed ridden mother so she spent her time between going to school and working two jobs. Finding time to build something with Greer is increasingly difficult. Greer has his own problems that unfold as the story progresses. I thoroughly enjoyed this, perfect for nuzzling up with a blanket in this winter weather.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved how this story plays out with them meeting online. I definitely will be looking forward to reading more of this authors work. I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it.
Greer is such a down to earth guy with just average down to earth friends. You would never know that they were a famous southern rock band if you just met them on the street. My heart breaks for Sawyer though. Aveline is so pure and sweet. Her and Greer are such a perfect match. The author does a wonderful job humanizing each person. You can't help, but love each member of the band. I can't wait for the next book in this series. This is going to be a truly amazing series. I volunteered to read this book.
I found this book in my kindle, not even remembering that I bought it. When I started to read it I was like "oh, I am a rock star book junkie, not country music fan", shallow I may be but I know what I like. What I didn't expect was how much I liked this book. Kudos to an Author that can write characters (the band) that I really started to care about - A mixed up H & h, with flaws, but that just added to their charm and keep this non-country fan invested. On to the next one (yes I bought it).
Wow- I was very pleasantly surprised by this book! Surprising depth, a good plot with great characterization, and scorching chemistry combine to create Chance- the first installment in the Rusted and Reckless series.
Aveline Michaels has a lot on her plate. She attends online classes to earn her college degree, while also working two jobs and acting as caregiver for her mother (who is in a virtually vegetative state following a tragic car accident.) Aveline has no time for a social life outside of her chats with fellow online students. Her virtual best friend Greer is in several of her classes, and talking with him for the past semester has helped her to stay sane as she struggles to manage everything happening in her daily life.
Greer McQueen loves his online chats with Aveline (aka Ava), arguing about the finer points of English literature and grammar. He calls her "University Girl" to his friends, and speaks of her often. Greer is working on an English degree, in addition to already having collected three other bachelors' degrees and a masters' degree that he will probably never use. He hasn't told Ava about his biggest secret- that his online classes are merely for personal enjoyment, since his real job is as the bassist in the double platinum country/rock band Rusted and Reckless, with whom he happens to be on tour.
When Ava tells Greer online that she will finally be taking a little time for herself to go and see one of her favorite bands in concert (Rusted and Reckless), Greer knows that he has to meet her. With the help of his bandmates Jason, Rory, and Sawyer, Greer's "University Girl" is found in the crowd and brought up to watch the show from just offstage. Once the two meet, their chemistry is undeniable, and they find it hard to part when it is time for the band to go on to their next tour location. Greer finds ways to continue seeing Ava, although distance begins to take its toll on their relationship. Ava's guilt over leaving her mother and Greer's issues with an addict twin brother create further problems for the couple. But when disaster strikes, will Ava be able to move beyond her fear and regret to take a chance on love?
This really was a great story. I love the rocker trope, so this book was right up my alley. One thing I really liked about it was that this wasn't a case of insta-love, since the characters had spent time chatting online and had already become friends. It created depth and believable chemistry between Greer and Ava. Both characters were socially awkward, so watching them grow together was especially sweet. The sexy scenes were super hot and fit well within the story (without taking over the whole plot.) Greer was a great hero- super alpha and sexy in the bedroom, but he also very considerate and patient. I wasn't as fond of Ava due to her immaturity. She was constantly running away from Greer, which started to get really old. I also felt that at times Ava was unnecessarily cruel- it really bugged me when she went to Greer's band mates for comfort, especially since she was ignoring him. I do give props to the author for showing her transformation as she learned to deal with her emotions, which helped to make her final reconciliation with Greer more believable. I also really liked the other band members, and I look forward to reading their stories next.
Overall, this was a good read that really held my attention, and I am looking forward to reading Jolt (Jason's story.) I received an ARC of this book from BookSprout (although I also now have a finished copy), and I voluntarily chose to write an honest review.
I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review!
Review to come....
3.5 to 4 stars
I really liked Greer, he was such a sweet and caring and oh wow was he a patient man. He really loved Ava and would do anything to try and make her happy. Ava is at times so indecisive but she's strong willed and independent that it was hard for her to let anybody help her especially Greer. I absolutely loved all of the band members. jason was my favorite I think with his smart ass self. he cracked me up and was also Greer's best friend. Sawyer is more like the big brother of the whole group i loved his protectiveness and just felt bad for him when it came to Nix, and oh jeez Rory the ladies man.
But fuck Jamie and his asshole self. Luckily Greer saw through his bullshit, unfortunately that is Greer's twin. I can't wait to read about the rest of the bandmates. Now unfortunatley it didnt get 5 stars for a few reasons, 1 there were a bit of spelling issues but nothing that made the story horrible to read no the big thing for me at least was I got a little bored in the beginning , it was a little too sappy and happy between Greer and Ava that i lost interest. again not enough to give up reading but around the 45% mark it started picking up and that's when I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with all of these men and am really interested in there lives!!
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this book. It's not like the other rock star books. They are mostly about the band and a whole lot of sex. This one had was more real feeling. You had Aveline, who was caring for her mom while going to college and putting any chance of a relationship on back burner. She worked two jobs and barely made it work. She's one busy girl, so busy she didn't realize her friend Greer was part of the hottest country band. There was just something about her that rubbed me the wrong way...i think it was after the attack and she disappeared. She doesn't handle stressful and emotional times well. She gave up the best thing to happen to here not once but twice.. Greer is a saint. He's determined to make his dreams come true while getting his degree from college. He has a lot going on...his brother is a piece of work, a band member is missing and Aveline. I really liked Greer and all his band mates. They are genuine and down to earth, guys I'd love to hang out with. Sure each one had their quirks that they brought to the table but it made them stronger and more united. This was a good book and I will definitely be reading book 2 when it comes out. I think there's possibility for a great series here.
Greer is the bass player for country/rock band Rusted and Reckless who has been earning online degrees as pretty much a hobby for him. With his online courses he has come to be acquainted with Aveline who happens to be in a couple of his classes. They have struck up quite the friendship over time and is known as “University Girl” to his bandmates.
Aveline and her mother were in a car accident and now she has been working two jobs, taking online courses and caring for her mother who is in a vegetative state since the accident. Since Greer and Aveline have been in daily contact there is a growing connection and she will be in for one huge surprise since she just informed him that she is going to see one of her favorite bands, Rusted and Reckless. She has no clue that Greer is the bass player in the band. His bandmates ask the crowd that night if there is someone who goes by “University Girl” in the audience and to please come up backstage for the remainder of the show. Greer and Aveline have had an online connection for quite some time but will they still have that connection once they meet in person?
I absolutely loved this book. This is the first book by the Author that I have read and I am hooked!
The story was heartwarming, emotional, sweet and sexy. I went from feeling sympathy for Aveline's situation, to cheering for her and Greer to get together, to heartbroken over her mother, to hopeful they could work out their relationship issues.
The characters in the book, both main and secondary, are incredibly complex and realistic.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
"I received an ARC copy of this book." Wow what a read. Loved the characters and the over all book. The band mates was all awesome and had qualities that I liked. Loved how tough Ava was. Loved their love and relationship.
This was a very enjoyable book. I really enjoyed the development of the relationship between Aveline and Greer, and the rest of the Rusted and Reckless band was great. There was plenty of romance, great dialogue and a beautiful love story.
I'm an independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock.
Greer and Aveline are in the same collage classes online. They have never met before but Greer can't get her off his mind. Then the best thing happened they come face to face. She never expected him to be who he turned out to be. And with her responsibilities can they make this "long" distance relationship work. This book will reel you in. I could not put it down. It has everything you want in a Romance book. Romance, check. Supporting characters, check. Sex, check. Drama, check. And a GREAT plot, check and check. I love a book that has it all and this one does.... Go on give Chance a CHANCE... (I had to sorry)...
Aveline Michaels has had to grow up quickly, as she's responsible for taking care of her bed ridden mother. Not to mention, she's doing this while going taking college classes, and working two jobs in order to pay all the bills. There's no time for any fun in her life. When her cousin finally gets her to go out to a concert one night, her whole life is shaken up. Greer McQueen is the bassist for Rusted & Reckless, but Aveline has only been talking to college student Greer, never dreaming that he's a part of her favorite band. Greer has been trying to get the courage up to meet her, but he never dreams that it will be at one of his concerts. They have been talking for a while, but when they meet, their strong connection is instant. Greer wants her badly, but she doesn't have any extra time for any thing serious. Will Greer be able to make her see that he's not giving up?
WOW WOW WOW! OMG Charlotte Casey, I've become an instant fan girl, as I LOVE this story! The emotional angst throughout the story is at heart wrenching levels which may or may not have had my eyes leaking. But on the flip side, the superbly well placed humor gave me a break, and left me laughing so hard that my sides hurt, and I'll especially never look at boring round pancakes the same way. Greer and Aveline's simmering chemistry is palpable, and finally boiled over into panty destroying, SCORCHIN' HOT sexy scene goodness that I couldn't get enough of. Charlotte Casey's very talented writing style had me fully captivated from the very first page, and I couldn't turn the rest of them fast enough. A few big twists had me screaming f-bombs from the rooftops, and I'm afraid that I called her some colorful metaphors as well. This first book in a new series is simply fantastic, and has me all kinds of impatient for more, so I'll just wrap this up with HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING Chance to any and everyone!

Greer is a member of the southern rock band Rusted and Reckless. As the “geek” of the band, he takes on-line courses for fun. Avaline has been in several of his classes and they have struck-up a on-line friendship overtime. Avaline has no idea that Greer is a member of Rusted and Reckless but mentions that she is going to the band’s show. Happy to finally meet his friend in person, Greer arranges to meet Avaline after the show. To say she was star-struck and somewhat blown away by who Greer really is, is an understatement. Avaline and Greer have amazing chemistry but building the foundation of a potential relationship is difficult with Greer touring and Avaline working 2 jobs to support and take care of her mom that was injured in an accident. Unfortunately, Avaline and Greer must deal with several threats to their relationship before they find happiness.
Chance is the first book I have read by Charlotte Casey. I really enjoyed the story and thought the writing was good. Greer (as well as his band mates) was easy to fall in love with. There was a great story line and flow throughout the book. I am looking forward to the continuation of the series with the other members of Rusted and Reckless.
Much more than a Rockstar /Country Western romance!!
I would say Rockstar romances are not my genre – but Charlotte Casey is the second author to prove me wrong. Greer loves being a student and takes on-line classes due to the traveling schedule of the band Rusted and Reckless. He is enamored with another student in his classes; Aveline. Aveline is not only taking classes but trying to hold down two jobs as she needs to funds to continue to care for her bed-ridden mother. Aveline has become fast friends with Greer – not knowing he is a famous musician. They have an awkward first meeting, but Greer insists on a mulligan (do over) and the relationship takes off from there.
Aveline has too many responsibilities on her plate already, but these two find a way to become closer despite the long distance. When a crisis occurs, can this fragile relationship withstand the strain?
Sweet, sexy, complex story which will take you on a ride!!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
Greer and Aveline (aka University Girl) are a great couple and are believable characters.
Their path to romance is not easy, he's in a rock band and has an identical twin brother who has well and truly gone off the rails. She is caring for her very sick mother whilst also studying and working two jobs to pay the medical bills.
Aveline has very low self-esteem, which leads to her second guessing and questioning almost everything in their relationship. This became very annoying and I felt like shaking her...hence only 4*.
Apart from that one issue I loved the book. The story moved along quickly and the plot was different enough to keep me reading.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
Aveline is a college student, she works two jobs, and takes care of her invalid mother. Greer is also a college student, he is also a member of Rusted & Reckless a popular country band. He and Aveline have become close friends communicating online. After meeting at one of the band's concerts, they enter into a long distance relationship. Life has a tendency to get messy, and they will both have to compromise in order to make their relationship work. Interesting characters and an exciting plot with some fascinating twists. I loved this book.
This is the first book I've ever read by Charlotte Casey and I loved it. The storyline was great! This was the first story I've read the the couple meet through online classes. I thought it was different and it caught my interest immediately. "Rockstars" are one of my favorite genres which was the original reason I wanted to read this book and Ms. Casey didn't disappoint in this area either. All the characters good and there's lots of drama thrown in from all sides before Greer and Ava's HEA.
Loved the band and look forward to reading more of their stories! Can't wait to see who's next!
I thoroughly enjoyed my first read by Charlotte Casey, and unlike other stories that involve musicians; CHANCE is not a story about all the debauchery that is so common, but showed Greer as a man with real heart, patience and a genuine caring nature.
While Aveline is an independent, hard-working and fiercely proud young woman, who doesn’t have time for romantic entanglements or being a party girl.
As their worlds collide, these engaging characters must find away to let trust and romance blossom, while working towards their ultimate goals, and maintaining personal commitments along the way.
I’m looking forward to more wonderful stories by Ms Casey.
Great story about two on line college students with mind-blowing other lives! Aveline works two jobs, takes college courses, and takes care of her comatose mother at home. So imagine her surprise when she attends a Rusted and Reckless country/rock concert and discovers lead guitarist Greer is the same Greer, college student in her on-line classes. Lots of shocking twists and turns in this one. But way too many editing errors as well.
Kinda cliche. I wasn’t sure I’d like it but I’ve been into boys in bands lately and this didn’t disappoint. It was another girl unsure if she wants the boy / dealing with baggage story which I usually don’t like. But the characters were cute and resilient and real. Worth picking up if you need a good story that feels real but won’t make you bawl your eyes out.
I really loved the character in this. A hard working caring and sweet girl. This was a good. I found myself at times not really getting into the plot but the characters just stole my heart that I wanted to continue the story and other books. Its a good start to a series. Looking forward to what's next.
I have to say for a rock star romance, I was a little bored. The first half these two were so nice and reasonable. Is it me? No it's me. Please. Where was the rock star!
Greer McQueen and Aveline Michaels aka (University Girl) were class mates at Penn U. they had never met each other because they were both online students but they usually had two or more classes together so they had an online friendship but Aveline's birthday was today and her cousin Rob had brought her to the Rusted and Reckless concert to celebrate, Aveline hadn't been anywhere since before her mother was in a car accident she was pretty much a vegetable now she stopped responding with her eyes but Aveline would not give up on her mother and Rob decided that she needed to have at least one night to enjoy herself without feeling guilty about leaving her mother so he made sure they worked that out but they had to be home by morning. All of a sudden one of the band members was calling for a Penn U. student known as University Girl and then they were calling for Aveline Michaels and before she really knew anything she and Rob were backstage and someone was pulling Aveline on stage where she saw the band and the very man she had been wanting to meet forever, Greer was playing the bass and all she wanted to do was watch him when she was introduced she had said she was their with Rob and they assume he was her boyfriend and Greer would not look directly at her thru the entire concert and when they were done he didn't make a point to come and speak to her she had told Jason that Rob was her cousin and Jason couldn't wait to tell Greer when Greer found out he was on cloud nine and wanted to run a see her but he was also shy and waited on the guys but they made small talk and play games with some of the groupies but he didn't get to talk to her as he wanted but he took her back to the bus and was about to give her a kiss when Rob interrupted and told her they had to get home asap she was pissed and so was he but they went back to doing what they did daily in his case practicing and touring. But for Aveline it was to take care of her mom work two jobs and complete class courses. She and Greer still emailed and texted each other but something was different after they met each other in person and she wasn't sure what it was she had to get that straightened out first so they could go back to being themselves online and on the phone. This is a wonderful book of first love and misunderstandings that result in hurt feelings guilt and heart ache but a story everyone should read. I purchased this book and I am providing an honest review.
* I received an ebook from the publisher, but it in no way affected my review or opinion of the book.*
This was my first book by author Charlotte Casey, but it will not be my last!! I will be reading more of her books (hopefully sooner, rather than later)! Her books are fun, exciting, and have a great plot to them. The reader becomes instantly involved in the characters lives and they become instant friends! The reader wants to know more, while at the same time they don't want the story to end.
I rated this book a 4 star read instead of a 5 star for a few reasons. The first being that Aveline and Greer have been talking/emailing/texting for years BUT she never realizes that he is the bassist of her "favorite" band? I couldn't get behind that in the book. First, his name is unique, if it were her favorite band, wouldn't she have known who he was? The plot focuses on this a lot throughout reading that Greer wanted someone who didn't know him or his fame and it didn't work for me.
The characters were compelling. They grabbed the readers attention and held it. The reader couldn't help but feel for Aveline and her mom and they could relate to Greer even if he was in a band and support rich. The author did a great job of endearing them to the readers. The secondary characters also play a huge role in the story. The reader loves how selfless Rob is, how the band loves Nix and how they are truly a group of friends that have become family.
The story flows quickly and the reader becomes engrossed in the plot and doesn't want to stop reading. The reader is on the edge of their seat wondering what is going to happen next while at the same time trying to predict how the story will go. This is a good book that should be added to your TBR list. Sit back and enjoy!

Chance is a great start to a new series about the country rock band, Rusted and Reckless.
Greer and Aveline have become virtual BFs since meeting through mutual online classes they're taking. Greer is a member of the famous country rock band, Rusted and Reckless, but Aveline just knows him as Greer, the man she's come to depend upon as a friend. Imagine her surprise when she and her cousin, Rob, are attending a Rusted and Reckless concert and she recognizes the voice of the bassist as her friend, whom she's never met. Talk about a surprise, a really good surprise.
I fell in love with Greer - he's such a big sweetie with a heart of gold, and he fell for Aveline, HARD! Aveline, though, was a little bit harder to connect to, at first, because she pushed and pulled and ran away from Greer more than once. But, I felt for her, too, because she had such a hard life, caring for her mother, working two jobs, and going to school at the same time. She didn't have much good in her life aside from Rob and her virtual friendship with Greer, so it was hard for her to really believe that he was in love with her. Thank God everything works out, but Chance takes you on one hell of a ride to get to that HEA.
I'm not a country fan, but Greer and his bandmates certainly have made me a fan of them and this new series. Can't wait for Jason's story (Jolt) next!
