I purchased this beautiful book when I was planning a painting party for my Lifelong Learner's class. I ended up purchasing two more for Christmas gifts. Even if you will never paint a picture, Rebecca Schweiger's wisdom regarding our creative natures is well worth the price of the book. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to connect with their inner artist, and we all have one. All you have to do is reflect on your childhood to know something in you wants to create; whether it is through writing, drawing, pottery, music, or yes, painting.
I had such hopes for this book, but maybe I'm hoping for the wrong things? The essays start strong but quickly become the same old encouragement ("Afraid of failure? Just do it anyway!"). The art projects are heavy on the acrylic paint and collage elements, which might not be a bad thing except that I'm currently obsessed with watercolor.
3 1/2 stars Step by step painting projects with photos to increase your inspiration and self-confidence. Fun and easy for beginners or intermediate painters needing to boost their creativity. Experienced artists might not enjoy this book as much and find the projects not challenging enough.
