This is a no-spoilers review.

Bob Williams keeps surprising me. His characters from Music City Macabre—real people to me—Prescott, Coles, Shields and Lexi are back . . . that’s no surprise. His bad guy is insanely bad . . . that’s not surprising, either. The whole story is a Freak-filled road trip . . . again, I expected that.

It’s the nuances, the underlying motivations, the conflicts-and-resolutions, and the fruition of unlikely quests that stand out for me. And he accomplishes all those subtlet

Prescott (don't call him Mister), Cole, Shields, and Lexi (the dog) are back in this wisecracking, action-packed series... Bob Williams sets the story from the get go with the perfect quote at the beginning...
If you loved Music City Macabre you're gonna love this, as the story takes right up where the last book ended. Right after Kade's demise. After receiving some very pointed messages, directed at Prescott the team, they head off to take out Admiral Shen... To find out if they make it, you're

A sequel surpassing it's predecessor? It doesn't happen often. Bob Williams did it with this second novel from the Low Lying Lands series (and I loved the first installment). The characters are strong, the dialogue is fun, and the story has a great flow.

Bob Williams does it again. This book is mind spinning, gripping, and spell binding all at the same time. I started the book Sunday, and hated having to put it down for sleep! Williams takes us on the continuing saga of Prescott and his friends on the trip to Columbus, where the trio (plus Lexi) must take on Admiral Shen. Shen, a fallen angel, is determined to destroy his own enemy. What Shen doesn't know is that what transpires seems to be just the beginning of the ultimate war between good and ...more

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was honestly impressed with the pace and excitement of this story. The characters were fun, and it went in directions I didn't anticipate. It was a great continuation of the Low Lying Lands storyline, introducing some new villains, and some other surprise returns. This story seemed to be a little freer with the humor than the first one was. It was less restrained and dark, and had more tones of Evil Dead style campiness. I enjoye
While reading the book I was reminded of this quote by Marina Tsvetaeva. There are books so alive that you're always afraid that while you weren't reading, the book has gone and changed, has shifted like a river. The author has quite a talent for creating a gritty, brutal freak filled world that had me engrossed and feeling as if I was right there with Prescott and his fellow survivors. As the story unfolds we are given more insight into who the Protectorate are and their reasons for becoming involv ...more

A fantastic second book, and I daresay that I enjoyed it better than the first. Another non-stop romp through the Low Lying Lands. Prescott is "every man"... totally relate-able. I'd venture to guess we've all known a Prescott, or perhaps even been a Prescott. He's just a great character.

The Scifi pop-culture references are one of my favorite things about these two books and Williams is a master of it here. One minute I'm terrified at what I just read, the next I'm laughing... good stuff!!!
