Fall Is for School
Fall is time for turning leaves,
The weather's growing cool.
Fall is here! Come on with me!
It's time to go to school.
In this exuberant sequel to Winter is for Snow , the two seasonally-opposed siblings face the end of summer with both joy and dread. But as Sister shares her enthusiasm for fall, school, and everything they encompass, Brother's own excitement grows in this celebratory picturebook. Robert Neubecker's expressive illustrations and buoyant rhymes will encourage even the most reluctant school-goers to embrace the start of a new season!
Praise for Winter is for Snow
"Neubecker's snow-laden illustrations are crammed with activity while also revealing a certain emotional thawing." -- Publishers Weekly , starred review
"Neubecker's signature style and brightly colored illustrations are, as always, childcentered and detailed. A rhyming, rollicking salute to the coldest season." -- Booklist

This book is about a younger sister convincing an older brother that school can be pretty cool especially when there are hands-on activities! Simultaneously, fall is celebrated as a great season since it coincides with returning to school after the summer break.

A great back-to-school book from two perspectives- one that is excited to go and one, not so much.

Little sister is excited about school and all the things she'll learn, while the brother is not happy about it. Rhyming.

This book is a picture book that uses illustration heavily to give a bigger picture to the story. The illustrations are all done in a very warm tone which shows the child autumn vibes and colors. This book is a more mature read and I would suggest it for children ages 4-7. This is when most children are starting school and this book will help excite them for school and see it as a normal activity compared to being anxious. The colors and pictures in this book help hold the child's attention and also is very relatable, and they can apply the story to themselves.

A tale of summer's end,
Shared in rhyme and meter;
That reminds us all,
Interest in school can peter.
From child to child,
Different levels are seen;
Many times over,
I'm not being mean!
It's a simple statement,
A matter of fact;
Not everyone learns
With the same tact(ics).
That's why we consider,
The subjects at hand;
And remind little learners,
They're numerous like sand.

A back to school but that is an ode to fall and all the things you learn. A sister is trying to convince her brother that it is good to be going back.
With kids around me starting back to school in mid-August the Fall piece doesn't fit as well as it used to. I also wish they mention of Halloween and the jack-o-lanterns were left out as not all kids celebrate this holiday and it really wasn't necessary to the story.

The illustrations really make this story celebrating the joys of learning. Young readers are encouraged not to be fearful of the new school year, as a boy is slowly convinced by his younger sister that school is more fun than he had previously thought.
Although, these days, kids who get summer breaks normally go back to school in the middle of August, not after the leaves have changed and people are donning their coats, as depicted in this book.

The little boy in this story is not very excited to go back to school. His sister tries to tell him about all the exciting things to see and learn. The illustrations are bright and colorful, and I enjoy reading about all the things he could be learning. But the first half of the text felt flat and preachy. "Fall is here it's time for School" Sure we need to get kids excited about school and lima beans and going to bed, but I've seen it done better.

OK. Not great, some of the word choices are things that I don't really think work well. I think it was a lot of well I just need to find a rhyme that will fit here. As someone with a child who is very school avoidant, I was hoping this would be useful, but after reading it myself, I don't think it would really encourage my son to want to go to school.

Reluctant learners might be inspired to go to school because of the rhyming way this book is presented. There are descriptions of things that might be learned in school and things that typically take place in the fall.

A little busy for my taste, and the rhymes are a bit stilted in places, but there's good diversity represented in the children and teachers along with a lot of content to consider in a light-hearted way. Nice for back-to-school months.

A sister tries to convince her brother that school is most definitely more fun than staying at home in the fall. This book would appeal to those in the elementary grades at school.
Clever book jacket and the illustrations are full of colorful things to look at.

It's back to school time, and sibling brother and sister couldn't be more different. Sister is excited (and preachy) about school. Brother is reluctant (but eventually sees the value in going back to school). Read it carefully, because the rhyme is a little off.

Enthusiasm for school is good, and reminding kids what cool things get studied may be a way of inspiring it, but the rhyme scheme and the story arc are kind of insipid. Not terrible, but disappointing.

Seasonally opposed, this brother and sister, getting ready for school and for fall.
I love the gentle humor of this tale, with the rhymed verses and the whimsical, cartooney, illustrations. Both by highly original Robert Neubecker.
Thanks for this FIVE STAR read!

It's about a younger sister convincing an older brother that school is awesome and he saying it is not and doesn't want to go. I think it would have worked better if the older brother or sister convinced their younger sibling it was cool.

For sister, the end of summer is joyful because she looks forward to school, but brother dreads the season's end.

Told in alternating voices of two siblings: one who is enthusiastic about school starting and one who is not.

This is a fun well written, well illustrated book! Perfect for those who are excited to go back to school and those that ..well.. aren't so excited!

I wasn't a fan of this story.

I really loved the illustrations from this book, but the words were a bit of a letdown. I would give it 4 stars for illustration, and 2 stars for writing.

Loved it! Perfect back to school book!

a conflict between the sibling excited about school starting and the reluctant one.

The illustrations are nice & the story is a good idea, but I just couldn’t get passed the clunky rhyming and it also feels like the book goes on too long (would have benefited from more editing).

A young girl tries to get her brother excited about school by describing the daily activities and subjects studied.
The illustrations are fun and child-friendly. The rhyming felt very clinical.

Catchy and well-intentioned, but with a few weird moments. Ages 5-7.

My favorite part of this book was when the sister was talking about all the fun things to do in school. I would use this book in my classroom to get students excited about school

In bright illustrations and irregular rhyme, a girl is convincing her brother that it's time to go to school and it will be fun to learn so many things and make new friends.
