I had a bit of relationship with Mine for the Week, one that’s made it a bit hard to review. Erika Kelly has written some of my favorite books (read the Rock Star Romance series if you haven’t, it’s so much fun!) and she once again has written a couple that has unmistakable chemistry. There’s some great push and pull between Sophie and Ryan and individually as they face life post-graduation. But, there were times that I truly struggled.

I'm a huge fan of Erika Kelly. I have been since she released You Really Got Me (if you haven't read it...you should.) And this series is a great second effort. I LOVED the first book (Mine for Now) and this book is a great follow up. As always Erika delivers a great story with characters you can relate to, ups and downs that leave you guessing and romance, so much romance.

I will admit with no embarrassment that I am an adult reader who loves Young Adult fiction. I love it! Mine for a Week is not YA fiction. So why can I not remember reading about a more immature hero in a looooong time?

There’s a lot to love about out hero, Ryan O’Donnell. He’s sexy, he’s disciplined, he’s a soon-to-be a professional baseball player. Sadly, he’s also emotionally stunted and entirely too concerned with what others think of him.

I hate to say it, but I almost DNF'd this book. I had a really hard time connecting to Ryan and Sophia and their story.
I'm glad I kept reading as things did get better, but I still never fully invested in these two having a happily ever after. Sophia was a much more likable character, Ryan just fell short for me. The first word that pops into my mind when I think of this book is juvenile. I never took seriously the main characters even though I tried. Sophie was almost good, but in the end, I didn't like her. I wanted her to stand up for herself sooner and not let continue is hot and cold behavior. This book was surprisingly enjoyable. The basic story is about baseball athlete Ryan and cookie heiress Sophie who meet at a singles holiday resort. The resort is all about hooking up and having a good time but Ryan and Sophie seem to be the only two people there who are just trying to distance themselves from their lives whilst they work out their problems.

This book was surprisingly enjoyable. The basic story is about baseball athlete Ryan and cookie heiress Sophie who meet at a singles holiday resort. The resort is all about hooking up and having a good time but Ryan and Sophie seem to be the only two people there who are just trying to distance themselves from their lives whilst they work out their problems.

I was surprised because there was no sports really in the story and because it was quite full of drama. Not my usual thing, but I really enjoyed this story.

There is a high element of instalove here. Ryan sees Sophie and is pretty much bowled over. So much so that he felt a bit stalkerish at times. He follows her around and insists on 'saving' her a few times when it's debatable that she needs saving which annoyed me. But the author also realises this and explains it well.

The two eventually get together and there is a great HEA at the end.

The characters
Ryan had pluses and minuses. I definitely felt that he was goodlooking and hot. The author got that across well. I was smitten. What was less appealing was his changeable nature. Both characters had a lot of 'angst' to deal with and it was pitched well. I could see both sides. Ryan spent the week working through his issues and see-sawing between his feelings. Whilst totally understandable it did annoy me after a while. Make a decision dude! Yes, look out for yourself for once but it can't be denied that your indecision affects a lot of people around you.

I felt that Ryan could have given baseball a bit more of a chance. He could have worked more on why he had panic attacks, got professional help. Maybe given baseball a chance just for a year or two. It's hard because this sold itself as a baseball novel. I love a sports romance. I like reading about the game and the team camaraderie but there is actually no sports in this book. I missed that.

As for Sophie, she also had her issues to work with. Sometimes I just wanted her to loosen up a bit. Enjoy yourself woman! Here you are about to get it on with a gorgeous athlete and your worrying about corporate mergers! I guess I am just a bit more into low angst, more sexy time stories. I am SO SHALLOW.

But the angst keeps the story going. And when the two do get together it was really hot! I LOVED how desperate Ryan was. Go Ryan! I loved it. It was HOT.

So in closing, a bit 'angsty' for my personal taste hence only 4 stars, but I know many people love the depth that brings to the story. Instalove aside, i never doubted their connection and I loved the ending. I wanted to be in their ending with them! Mine for the Week is my first Wild Love novel, but I’ve been a fan of Erika Kelly’s writing for a while now. I loved her Rock Star Romance series. I wanted to love Mine for the Week, but I didn’t. It ended up being a book that wasn’t well suited to me. That’s not to say it’s a bad book. There were just some things that didn’t jive with me.

Mine for the Week is my first Wild Love novel, but I’ve been a fan of Erika Kelly’s writing for a while now. I loved her Rock Star Romance series. I wanted to love Mine for the Week, but I didn’t. It ended up being a book that wasn’t well suited to me. That’s not to say it’s a bad book. There were just some things that didn’t jive with me.

I’m going to start with the things I did like. As always, I enjoyed Erika Kelly’s writing style. I loved the characters’ backgrounds. Each had a great back story. Jake was consumed by the pressure he felt as a top-notch college athlete. He felt the need to follow a path set for him as a child. He loved baseball, but needed a break. Jake also had some worries about letting down his family. Emma was an heiress who wanted to play a bigger part in her family business. She wanted to honor tradition, but had to figure out a way to do that without dividing her family. The way they shared their histories and the problems those histories created boned Jake and Emma together well. I liked how they seemed to naturally understand each other. I also liked how they knew how to help with each other’s problems.

Another thing I loved was the setting. The tropical island Emma and Jake were on helped create a special environment for them to bond. Emma’s sense of adventure helped as well. She was in a new, tropical place and wanted to spend her time exploring that. I loved what that created for her and Jake.

What I loved most about this book was the ending. The ending was everything I desire from a contemporary romance ending. It was so cute! It was everything I wished the rest of the book was.

The things I didn’t like overshadowed some of those good things. The setting is one of those. I loved the tropical setting, but I didn’t love singles resort theme. It seemed unnecessary for two people who weren’t really into it. A normal resort would have worked just as well.

My biggest problem with Mine for the Week was the way Jake blatantly pursued Emma. She made it obvious she wasn’t into hooking up, but he wouldn’t let up. He was almost stalkerish. It felt like he was forcing things even when she was into it. It made me uncomfortable.

Obviously, I had mixed feelings about Mine for the Week. The good and the bad seemed to even each other out. When it comes down to it, this book was a good book, but it just wasn’t the book for me. I know other romance readers would enjoy it. I would still like to go back and read the first book in the series, and I would read the next book ...more

I loved Erika's Rockstar books so I was curious where she'd take this series. This is the second book but I don't feel liked missed anything. I had no idea what to expect really but it flowed really well in the start. While I had moments I had to push through with the angst, I loved how it ended made it come together. They go deeper than expected during that time, get to know each other, an intense first attraction. Both of them as it seems as the crossroads of their career of choice one baseball and the other family business. Ryan dealing with expectations along with uncertainty and Sophie being treated unfairly by family. It's a lot of tension building despite their resolve to stay away from one another.

These two are so on and off. Ryan can turn on his feelings or hold back just like that. Pretty indecisive at times too. Sophie had a lot going on too and was either refusing or giving in. She irked me a times being stubbornly independent, which is great really and I get why, just there was something about how it was done that bothered me though. I felt frustrated it kept going on circling around and clearly these two have their issues to sort out. But it's up to them after the break it over to decide where it goes.

Mine for the week is more than title, it's about following your passion, life and family. It was a week for them both to get their problems together while actually hanging out. Yes the steamy moments from the islands are there, it built up to it. So it does somewhat hold true. It's about life decisions and finding themself too, for not only Sophie and Ryan but the other characters too. It was well written and entertaining read that made me want to read about the first and next book.

I was excited to read something from Erika Kelly- it had been a while. Unfortunately for me, Mine for the Week just fell a bit flat. Don't get me wrong, I am all for insta-love and insta-lust but something between Ryan and Sophie just didn't seem to click.

First of all, you NEED to read this book! Within the first few pages I was hooked and I pretty much didn't put it down until I was finished. From the first meeting of Ryan O'Donnell and Sophie Valentine I felt like I was catching up with friends who were going to tell me about their whirlwind romance. And boy did they ever! I loved how they met at a singles resort, loved how they clicked with each other. The ups and downs absolutely tugged at me.
