Some people live their entire lives without changing their perspective. For Allison Dennis, all it takes is 180 seconds…

After a life spent bouncing from one foster home to the next, Allison is determined to keep others at arm’s length. Adopted at sixteen, she knows better than to believe in the permanence of anything. But as she begins her third year in college, she finds

Allison is walking back to her dorm room one day when someone pulls her over to sign a form. With her headphones in and need to minimize socializing she goes to sign it and is roped into a social experiment video being conducted by a social media star, Esben, where people sit at a table staring at one another for 180 seconds straight. The intensity of it cause Allison to drop her guard and they end up kissing before Allison panics and runs away. The video blows up and goes viral and Allison's be ...more

I anxiously await every new release Jessica Park puts out. After she wrote one of my all-time favorite reads, Left Drowning, she has become an auto-read author for me. When I read the blurb for 180 Seconds and saw the gorgeous cover, I knew I had to have it. I preordered that paperback the very second I saw it live on Amazon. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that I was hyped up for this release and had very high expectations. I was expecting a book that made me FEEL, one that

Apparently, I'm the only one who doesn't love this book. Huh.

*Unpopular opinion, alert!*

I want to start off by saying that I'm a HUGE Jessica Park fan. Flat-Out Love and Flat-Out Celeste are both 5-star reads for me and total comfort food. I adored the quirky, fun humor of those books, and I was fully on board trying any and all Jessica Park stories. However, 180 Seconds was nothing like I was expecting.

My overall feeling after finishing the story was that I was emotionally manipulated. Now, of

180 Seconds is the first Jessica Park novel that I've read. The intriguing blurb was the one that pushed me to read this. In a word, this book was captivating. However, it didn't go where I thought it was heading and I kind of expected something a little different.

Allison Dennis left the foster care system at the tender age of 16. She has lived with seventeen different families and transferred from

This was such an emotional contemporary, I went in expecting some cheesy and cliché college love and although it did have a lot of that, this was full of hard and painful subjects. I read this in two sittings (work got in the way or I probably would have finished it in one) and shed so many little tears. I wouldn’t consider this book sad but it was emotional and tugged at my heart.

I loved the premise that is two strangers could be connected and understand each

180 seconds is about a college junior Allison. After sixteen years of being tossed around the foster care system, unwanted, she was adopted by her father. Now years later in college, she still lacks social skills and would prefer to spend her time studying or in her room. While talking a walk one day, she gets roped into a social experiment where two people stare into each others eyes for 180 seconds, no breaks. The per

OKAY SO. how do i even review this book. obviously i loved it because i gave it 5 stars but it's been sitting unreviewed on my shelf for a while now.... BUT i just have to say this book made me smile so much my cheeks hurt and it also made me ugly cry. so much. it's more than just a fluffy, cheesy contemporary and it touches on so many heavy subjects and doesn't shy away from them. i'm going to write an actual review, i promise.... just let me like, be coherent first and also i love allison and ...more

About a year ago, some videos conducting social experiments between strangers went viral. These videos had complete strangers kiss, hug, look into each other’s eyes, and their reactions were filmed. 180 Seconds centres around one such experiment, one with huge consequences for the two people involved.

I really loved this book. It was an anxious person’s dream – or rather, it was my dream. The story feels a bit like Fangirl in the beginning, where the protagonist has major anxiety and st

3.75/5 🌟This book was so adorable y'all and it was exactly the kind of story I was in the mood for! I went into it with pretty low expectations but boy it had me tearing up every other chapter, whether it be from tears of joy or sadness. The plot was so sweet (although a bit toooo sweet at times) and the romance literally had me squealing from the first few chapters *sigh* The story did take on a serious undertone towards the end which was heartbreaking 💔 However I'll have to say that the last f ...more

Allison is special, she is. Battling the demons of her past, being thrown from one foster family to another, she struggles to trust people. The only person she actually trusts is Steffi, her best friend. She doesn't let others in, not people she meets at school, not Simon, her foster dad. She's on her own, in her dorm and fights to survive.
This was so familiar to me since I've always had problems trusting people. I honestly still do and reading the way she copes with it was... heart-lifting beca

I LOVED this book! Esben and Allison were perfect! This was such a beautiful and emotional story, I felt so many emotions while reading this. The writing was amazing, the characters complex and the story at times heartbreaking and heartwarming. This is a top pick of 2017 for me and going on my all-time favorites list. This book touched my heart and will stay with me forever! Highly recommend!

"How can you be this everything?"

Addison and Esben meet at college when she drops her drink and then when they're in the same class. But that's not the best time they meet. That's when Esben is doing a social experiment of strangers having to look into each other's eyes for 180 seconds...and it was flippin' amazing!

See, Esben is a bit of a social media celebrity around school and town...and his popularity is growing. A lot of it has to do with all the "feel-good" things he blogs/twe

Oh wow. What a stunningly beautiful, emotional and unexpected NA read! Sweet, heartbreaking and heartwarming with a romance that had me swooning, this little read took me by surprise and completely stole my heart!

I say this book took me by surprise, but it really shouldn’t have – it’s Jessica Park! And this book recaptures the feeling, the sweetness and the emotion of my favourite book of hers – Flat-Out Love. Big words, but there you have it. I loved it!

180 Seconds is a standalone New Adult contemporary romance.

The narrator is Allison Dennis. The book is told in 1st person POV. Allison is in her junior year at Andrews College in Maine.

I would categorize the book as NA because it takes place in college and deals with some difficult topics. But it's not steamy like most NA books.

I was very impressed with how Allison was written. She is not your average happy go lucky girl who wants to party at college. But rather she has had a very tou

180 seconds wasn't what I expected it to be coming into this book. This is not a story about college girl with anxiety, not really, at least not for me. Yes, Allison has anxiety, but it's mostly at the very beginning and then it pretty much dissipates into thin air mainly becuse of the romance. A few chapters after she meets the love interest - Esben, she just kind of decides to be more brave and start her life etc, and I cannot help b

5 stars!!!

“You can’t reach what’s in front of you until you let go of what’s behind you.”

Jessica Park, for me, is synonymous with reads that have relatable characters that have their quirks and stories that deal with real life. Jessica Park’s character connection is always on point and so her stories always deliver the emotional reads that I crave and boy does 180 Seconds on ALL counts. This is an author whose writing style is one I clicked with from the beginning,

This book is honestly so bad that I can't continue. From the first sentence I have tried my hardest but six chapters in, I've had more than enough and simply have to give up.
Also, can someone explain to me why tragic backstories are such a common trope in YA fiction? Events like this that happen in people's lives are not cute or endearing or dramatic, they fucking suck. I'm honestly becoming rather frustrat

I felt like it was obvious reading this book that Jessica Park had collected a few viral news stories and decided they would make unique backstories for her characters, which was quirky but didn't build one cohesive story.

We follow Allison during her second year of college where she takes part in a social experiment to keep eye contact with a boy, Esben, for 180 seconds and something magical happens and they end up having this deep connection.

This story and these characters are very meh. It started off promising enough and I related a lot to the main character actually. She suffers from some bad depression and anxiety and is socially awkward because of it and I was relating to her a ton. But then once the love interest is introduced it’s almost like her anxiety disappears because she falls in love and she keeps telling herself to be brave and her anxiety just goes away. It’s just not realistic to me that romance solves all your probl ...more

I liked this book. I did. I just did not love it. And I so badly wanted to.

I feel like lately, I have started many of my reviews with similar opening lines. I have been looking for a book to blow my mind, and I found one in Strange the Dreamer, the second five-star I’ve read this year. I wanted this one to be the third. It was not.

For me to love a book, I need to care. I need to care about the plot. I need to care about the characters. Sadly, I couldn’t. I don’t know what it was, but I did not r

Allison is an introverted girl, just getting through life. She grew up moving in and out of foster families, although she never had it too bad, she never had anything consistent for too long. Until she was adopted at 16 years old. Even though she now has a dad, she's still very closed off and holds her cards very close to her chest. Hell, they are practically in her pocket. The only person who she trusts is her best friend Steffi who she met in the system!

If you're just discovering Jessica Park's writing with 180 SECONDS, THIS is the story that will make you fall in love with her books.

After having read just a few chapters, I messaged a friend told her "It's already amazing. I'm just going to hand over my heart to Jessica Park. Seriously, just take it." I felt this way early on and that emotion continued throughout.

There is a tone and pacing to her writing that makes everything else fall away and I became immersed in the lives of the characters.

This was such a sweet, feel-good read. I completely fell in love with Allison and Esben and the coziness of their little world. It makes me think of past trips up to New England with all the homey touches of Maine and blueberry ice cream and seafood. Jessica Park does an amazing job bringing out the heart in her characters and drawing relationships that you really want to root for. I got choked up with each little mini-story Esben brought to life through his social media and desire to do good.
