The Art of Growing Old: A Guide to Faithful Aging

Faithful aging is not simple aging; it is growing old. It is embracing not only the challenges of a long life, but engaging the possibilities of creativity and depth of soul available to those who have acquired a wealth of experience. This book is for all adults interested in increasing satisfaction in their lives. Each chapter moves from theory to practice, with thought provoking questions, specific suggestions, and clear illustrations of how the various tasks of aging can be accomplished. Saussy emphasizes the importance of setting goals, making plans, and enacting those plans as the practical means to moving into the last decades of life with a sense of expectation, grace, and fulfillment. With challenging and insightful suggestions for activities, questions for reflection, and guidelines for discussion groups, The Art of Growing Old is ideal for both individual and group use.

I was excited by the first chapter, but after that it just seemed to drag for me. Still, interesting.

This is a helpful book for people who are nearing retirement or other age-related transitions. I will use it with people in my congregations, probably. It is straightforward, perhaps a little oversimplified. It includes guided meditations and other exercises to help people think about the future.
