Such a sweet story of hope and love, with the joy of Christmas all around. Anika may not like Christmas but she's trying to do everything within her power to help her young daughter have a happy one.

With all the ups and downs throughout this book, I had moments that my heart ached for Anika and her daughter Megan. Then other moments I found myself cheering and a little teary eyed for the happiness that Anika was able to feel despite the struggles. One of those bringers of happiness was definitely Carlos. Except, Anika is going to do everything within her power to avoid him, stay away from his eyes full of adoration, hide when he's searching her out across the room, and put up many, many walls around her heart. And most especially not get all twitter-patted when she sees how gentle and good he his with her sweet daughter.

When tender moments and a constant showing of true friendship slowly start to break down the walls Anika has put up, she knows she's in trouble. Be still her heart, if she trips and falls into his arms one more time. These two have some serious chemistry and it was such a sweet story to read about. The slow building of trust. The misunderstandings. The hurt. The hope. The healing. And most especially, the beautiful message of Christmas, creates a sweet, funny and swoony read. Curl up by the fire, on the couch under a blanket and dream of a white Christmas and all the warm happiness that brings while you read this story of Hope for Christmas.

P.S. Carlos is the best!

Content: Clean. A few mild moments of peril but nothing graphic.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Romance, clean Christian.
This was more of a 3.5 for me as a reader, but rounded up, as I love a sincere, honest romance with a cute couple. This was definitely kind of sentimental, dramatic a bit, but still a lovely HEA with a struggling single mother, her daughter, and handsome H, both with sincere, honest emotions, struggles and feelings. I loved the gradual fall, the trust gradually building. What was sweet, was Anika's gradual learning to trust Carlos, to trust that good things would come her way, and to see her hard work and determination come together to lead to a successful future for her and for her daughter. I think the only thing lacking is wondering what would happen to the old store for me, but I am guessing that is told in another book in this series. Still a fun, sweet (ok, a little sentimental!) Christmas read, and I look forward to reading other books in this series that explore other authors.

HOPE FOR CHRISTMAS—I originally read this as part of Christmas Kisses (Echo Ridge Romance #1). Anika Fletcher is a kind of a Grinch when it comes to Christmas, but she doesn’t want to ruin it for her young daughter, Megan. Money is super tight for the single mom working only part-time at Kenworth’s, so she takes on some extra hours helping Carlos Rodriquez remodel Kenworth’s old fashioned soda fountain. Anika finds herself attracted to the handsome Puerto Rican but doesn’t believe in love since her ex-husband broke her heart. Will Anika let Carlos help her believe in love and Christmas again?

Anika’s been hurt and doesn’t trust anyone but herself to take care of Megan and herself, so I really liked how patient Carlos is with Anika and finally gets her to go out with him. I loved his interactions with Megan, it was so sweet and his Christmas gift for her was above and beyond what he could’ve given her. It obviously came from his amazing heart.

This novella was originally published in the Echo Ridge Anthology, Christmas Kisses, where it's still available. It's now available as a stand-alone and I love the theme of this story. Christmas is such a wonderful time of year and what makes it even better is when we can find more meaning to the season. I hope that you enjoy Anika's story.

Great Read

This was an enjoyable read. This is book 1e of the Echo Ridge Romance collection, and is told by Rachelle J Christensen. In this book, we meet Anika Fletcher. She hates Christmas, does whatever it takes to make sure that her daughter still has faith about Christmas season. She takes on job to repair a soda fountain with Carlos Rodriguez. As they work together, they start to understand and get to know each other. However, as she begins to open up, an ill-timed act of charity changes everything. Will their romance make it or not? This is a clean, Christian romance. I thought the story was great. I thought the characters were great. Anika has been hurt and has lost her faith in the Christmas season. I thought her character was great because despite her lack of faith in the Christmas season, she tried her best to make sure her daughter still loved it. It reminded me that mothers will do anything to make sure their children’s happiness is fulfilled even when there are times of struggles. I think she was smart, courageous, and beautiful. Carlos has been through his share of ups and downs, and I really liked how he shared his life with Anika while they were working together on the soda fountain. He is a sweet, patient, and handsome person. I thought the ending was nice. It was a delightful story about hope, love, and faith. I cannot wait to read more books by Rachelle J. Christensen.

Anika Fletcher dreads the upcoming Christmas holidays. But, she has to put on a good front for her 4 year old daughter. Yet, as her bank account continues to dwindle, she's not sure how much longer she can pretend. So, when local carpenter and volunteer fireman Carlos Rodriguez tries to bring Christmas cheer in her life, she tries to deny her feelings for him. Yet, when she is convinced that she's simply a charity case, is their future over?

Carlos Rodriguez works hard so that he can continue to renovate his house. When he sees how hard Anika also works, he seeks to get to know her and try to help her feel the Christmas spirit. Over time, he wants to extend his time with her to be more than just at Christmas, but when she accuses him of treating her like a charity case, he's unsure about what to do next.

This is a sweet story with lots of strong messages about family, faith, love, honesty, and hard work. I also loved how Carlos tries to figure out why Anika reacts the way she does. His character is fantastic. Anika's character is a bit more complicated because she's the one who's damaged and in need of help and encouragement. I also liked the time allowed to let the characters develop their romance. It did not feel rushed. I appreciate how I could sense their relationship building, yet it remained a clean read throughout.

My critique would be that a couple of the characters (Cecilia and Gentry) seemed too extreme. Then, they simply go away and are gone. Also, I like epilogues and this story would have benefitted with one.

My rating - 4.5 stars.

Anika is trying desperately to make it through the Christmas season. She's got a seasonal job at Kenworth's department store, but even with the work, she's struggling to provide for herself and her four year old daughter Megan. With bills to pay, there isn't much money left for Christmas, but Anika is determined to find a way to make Christmas good for her daughter. When she bumps into Carlos Rodriguez, a handyman/carpenter doing some remodeling at Kenworth's, her first instinct is to avoid him. But Carlos is sweet and kind and persistent and seems to really care about her and her daughter, and soon Anika finds herself opening her heart a little.

Carlos is a terrific character; he's totally dreamy. I loved the fact that he's a blue-collar worker who finds practical ways to try to help Anika and Megan, not some rich guy who swoops in to save the day. That made the story both more realistic and more endearing for me than a story where the guy is loaded and it's easy for him to buy whatever the girl needs. I thought Anika and her fears and hesitations were well-developed. This is a great pick for a quick Christmas read.

I received a free copy of the ebook from the author. All opinions are my own.

MY TAKE
A perfect bite of Christmas love. Anika has a lot of anger and hurt still simmering inside. And she doesn't trust easily. Working with Carlos, she gets to know him better but fear is still controlling her actions. And she wants to protect her young daughter. He's a solid guy and tries to help, but finds his attention rebuffed. Until a disaster strikes.

Lovely resolution!

Hope for Christmas is my third read today from author Rachelle J. Christensen. Another enjoyable short (138 page), well-written read. I'd gotten an email from the author today and in reading it immediately went out & browsed her books and the blurb for Double Take jumped off the page at me so I bought it. Now I like to read series in order so I went to Silver Cascade Secrets & discovered I already owned it having got it back in January of 2017 and never got around to reading it until now but I enjoyed it so much that I went out & in re-reading the email discovered that Hope for Christmas was on sale Start reading HERE 99 cents & Free in KU, so I bought it & read it.

I enjoyed this sweet and clean romance about a single mom, struggling to make ends meet and to give her daughter a special Christmas. Anika and Carlos are likable characters, although there were a few times I wanted to shake Anika and tell her to stop being so proud. She didn’t want to be seen by anyone as a charity case, but she clearly needed a bit of a helping hand, and Carlos was very willing to help her in any way he could. He was so patient and understanding with Anika, and very sweet to her daughter Hope. He was a hard worker too. Quite a catch, I’d say! I’m so glad that I picked up this book, I loved the Christian message woven throughout, and I loved the ending!

Hallmark-type story

When a grinch meets a dashing elf, sparks fly. I love Echo Ridge and this heartwarming story of a single mom down on her luck really hit the spot. Anika is doing everything she can to give her daughter, Megan, a good Christmas and her co-worker Carlos sets out to help her.

The Hallmark movie feel of this story was sweet. I love a book with a little substance and this one delivered with not only a darling romance, but moments of conflict, threaded with glimmering strands of hope. Christensen does a good job of bringing magic to the hearts of her readers with this charming, feel-good story.

Content: mild romance; brief moment of peril/danger

I liked the beginning better than the end part of the book. It was feeling very Hallmark-esque until it got to the big romance conflict and I just wasn't feeling that part. I think I'd have liked it better if it had been just a little longer as the end felt a little rushed and I had some unanswered questions. I liked the characters and wanted them to have their happily ever after. I felt like they could make a good couple.
Strong Christian themes

Sex: some kisses, creepy leering coworker
Language: no
Violence: reference to previous spouse abuse from ex husband

I must be feeling a bit grinchy this Christmas. I have seen enough chick-flicks and read enough chick-lit to know how these stories work. I shouldn't keep being disappointed. I just struggled a little with this story (3rd installment of the Christmas Echo Ridge anthology), like I did with the first two. I liked it better than the other two right up until the time the conflict came. I felt like it was not the best way that could have been handled. It was a cute story, it just didn't "wow" me.

I enjoyed this story very much. Anika's life is difficult making ends meet because she is having to meet her needs alone with a little daughter. Hope is probably the best little girl there is. Anika also has an issue with trusting Carlos who only wants to help her have a happy Christmas. But Anika doesn't want pity though she is wearing herself out working 2 jobs to hopefully get enough money to give her daughter what she most wants for Christmas. I am glad there is an HEA.

HOPE is the key word! If you don't have hope, what is there? And this is exactly the way Anika was feeling. Nothing to look forward to, nothing to live for but a sweet little girl. I could feel her despair! While the Hope Tree she was forced to decorate played a large role in the story, it was the pastor's talk on hope that made the story worth reading for me! I couldn't put it down.

So sweet & enlightening

I really enjoyed the story. It most certainly could be made into a hallmark movie. Single mom ,broke, down on her luck and very scrooged attitude towards Christmas. She meets a very handsome carrying man with a pure heart and the love of the lord and a good family. It's very touching.

Lovely Christmas Romance

I enjoyed this sweet romance about a young mother soured on relationships in general and Christmas in particular. Anika is a sweet, but untrusting character, and her daughter, Megan, a delightful young girl. I enjoyed the message of hope, especially when life looks bleak during the Christmas season. A great read.

Not as enjoyable as the first two in the anthology that I'm reading. It was okay until the main character threw a teen-age temper tantrum because she received some much needed help for Christmas. That kind of ruined the story for me.

Review

Anoka really needed the lesson she learned about hope during the Christmas season. She had been really unhappy, being a single mom, only working part-time, and with no extra money for her daughter's Christmas. This was a good, clean story that I really liked. And I want to read more about Echo Ridge.
