I am familiar with this author and her fun, comedic side with the Lucky books. Yet, this new path the author has taken with her thriller/romantic suspense books has me intrigued. I will say that while I did enjoy this book, I struggled with it as well.

Just like Kate's memory, it was slow to come back. Which is how I felt reading this book. It was touch and go for me. It took me several chapters in the beginning to get into this book. After that I would read a few chapters and than put the book

Warning! Definitely not a cozy! However, I enjoyed it very much. Kate Sawyer says that it was hell to lose one’s memory and not lose one’s mind. I understand where she is coming from. After my father had a stroke he told us that it seemed as if someone had knocked over his filing cabinet and dumped out all of the files. When someone would ask him a question he had to sort through all the loose papers until he found the correct one and then he could answer the question. He then told us that he pu ...more

Truly loved all the suspense in this book. One fast paced, and turn pager. The first page until the end had me intrigued.
Kate Sawyer a former NYPD undercover cop had been injured. When someone sends her a message its pretty scary. The problem is she can't remember things. Even who she is.

All the pieces are coming back, but who can she trust? The one person supposed to protect her she's staying away from.
She turns to Detective Beck Hudson. A gut feeling she can trust him.

That's when things bec

In After Me, this story is about a medical thriller. When Kate Sawyer gets hurt in a takedown, she goes into the Witness Protection Program. Then she finds a dead guy in her bath tub. She knows someone is after her, but she doesn't know who. Her memory has been messed up after she got hurt. She undergoes into a experimental stem cell treatment, hoping to regain her memory. This book is well written, the pace starts from the first page and doesn't stop until the last. You will NEVER guess who is ...more

I really, really loved this book! It takes you deep inside your mind, swirling with emotion... Gone is the wry humor of the Lucky series - this is heart-rendingly serious, grippingly fast, surprisingly innovative and even painful, and I kept rooting for the heroine from start to finish.

Wow, what a ride! Don't miss this, you wont't be disappointed.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found this story a fasted paced murder mystery, keeping you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. It is a well-written story about a former NYPD undercover cop who now lives in Portland, Oregon after being injured in a takedown gone terribly bad. Now Kate in is WitSec program hiding from the bad guys. She has early onset Alzheimer and she is only in her late 30's, she is in an experimental stem-cell program, but her biggest problem is she can't remember who they are ...more

The thing that drew me in was the early-onset Alzheimer's case. The fact that Kate Sawyer was a former NYPD cop who was living in my town of Portland, OR, in the Witness Protection Program. She is undergoing an experimental stem-cell treatment. She hopes to get at least some of her memory back because she has been hunted down and people around her are being killed. This was a well-written mystery

It took a little while for me to get into the story, but once it did I was pretty much racing along with it and found it really hard to put down. Trying to unravel the mystery was a great read, but the book is more than plot, it's also about people. The author has a knack for three-dimensional characters that you come to care about, and wanting to know what happened to them next, finding out what their pasts were and why things were happening in the present, makes for an amazing read.

I absolutely loved this author's LUCKY series. It's not fair to judge other books with different flavors against LUCKY, but I couldn't help it. Although I did enjoy AFTER ME. It still took me a while to get into because the memory thing kept throwing me. Then I realized, this is probably exactly what the main character feels. After I accepted the novel on its own merits, it got better. Gotta say, the ending was kicker!

Wow! This book grabbed me on page one and did not let go! Didn't want to stop reading to do anything. Seriously, don't start this book if you have anything to do; I only stopped to take care of necessary business, cooking, eating... I loved this book! It's action packed with some violence; kept me guessing til the end!

I loved Deborah's Lucky series, and had to give After Me a read. Totally different from the Lucky series, and shows that Deborah Coonts has so much writing talent.
Fantastic story!
Edgy and fast paced. Kate is such a complex character. Highly recommend this story to anyone that loves a mystery/thriller. A thrill a minute.
Bravo Deborah :)

After Me by Deborah Coonts is non-stop suspense from beginning to end. Kate Sawyer is a former NYPD undercover cop, living in Portland, Oregon in the Witness Protection Program and undergoing experimental stem-cell treatment for a genetic case of early-onset Alzheimer’s. She knows she was badly injured badly in an operation that went terribly wrong, but that is about all she knows. She comes home one night to find a dead man in her bathtub, and a note that says I know what you’ve done. What has ...more

This first book in what I hope will become a series was “After Me” by Deborah Coonts – I loved it!! I had read the summary for the book and thought what an original idea and so fascinating – an undercover cop with the NYPD who has had a takedown go terribly wrong, twenty million in missing diamonds, and now the cop is exhibiting signs of early onset Alzheimer’s and can’t remember what went wrong. She is now living in Portland, under another name and in the Witness Protection Program. Her new nam ...more

After Me is riveting...I couldn't put it down.

I should start by saying that I love Deborah Coonts' writing. A while back, I picked up her Lucky series and powered through the books at a breakneck pace. That should, therefore, have been a suggestion to me to not pick up this book right before bed. I literally had to finish it in one sitting; the book has been in my hands less than 24 hours. And it's so different from her Lucky series....and dare I say it, even better!

After Me is riveting...I cou

Most of us routinely comment that we wouldn’t know what to do without our phones. In the case of Kate Sawyer that comment is more truth than the claims of an over-technologized society. The victim of early onset Alzheimer’s, Kate is the first person, truly unreliable narrator of Deborah Coonts’s new thriller, After Me. Her phone is her lifeline, how she remembers things, how she tries to piece together who she was to determine who she is now. Coonts takes readers on a wild ride as the events of

As a long-time fan of Ms. Coonts Lucky O’Toole Adventures. I knew this would be a fantastic book. I was not let down in the least. A true nail biter from the very first page, I could not put this novel down until I knew who Kate was and what happened to her. And that’s the whole problem: Kate herself can’t even remember from day to day who she is or her past, nor why anyone would try to kill her. But after finding a dead guy in her bathtub, she’s aware that she’s in way over her head with no exp ...more

A Fine Whodunnit

My favorite part is the care taken in developing characters. Normally I don't read crime novels. They are mostly written by men, have cartoon characters, and a cross-word plot. But I have learned to trust Debbie Coonts as a writer. In this book, the main character is a detective who had gone deep under cover, and was almost killed in a bust gone wrong. But my favorite plot/character twist is she also had early onset Alzheimer's, so she couldn't remember where the diamonds were st

I loved this book! It was intriguing from page one - what happened to Kate? It was intense and suspenseful - there are bad guys after her and I found my heart pounding as I was reading! It was also confusing, particularly at the beginning, so you need to read very carefully - for a fast reader like me, I had to make a concentrated effort to do that - this book has a very intricate plot. Everyone is keeping secrets, playing an angle...and Kate doesn't know who to trust. The conclusion was spectac ...more

After Me is my favorite book so far that Deborah Coonts has written. I started with Wanna Get Lucky several years ago and have read almost all of her books. This one kept me turning the pages! The writing in this book is unquestionably some of the best I've read. Ms. Coonts is funny, creative, and smart (a magical combination in an author), and it shows in this book. Highly recommend!

Bravo Deborah Coontz! I will admit to being somewhat skeptical of how this book would was such a huge departure from your Lucky books. This is a fast paced thriller and is a completely engrossing read. I enjoyed it very much!
