Fresh Expressions of Church

Rate this book

In the last decade, a giant cultural wave has swept the North American church into a brand new world—a pluralistic, complicated, high-tech/low-touch world. Faced with the challenge of engaging a jaded culture, a fresh expression of church has emerged alongside the traditional church. This short book gives an overview of the Fresh Expressions movement and its innovative approach to reaching those who would perhaps never come to our church buildings.

These “churches” described within this book and by the Fresh Expressions movement care more about appeasing nonbelievers than the God they worship. The audacity to say there can be “churches” that don’t feel the need to read Scripture or sing praises to God, rather they just “have fun because God would want them too” is not going to create disciples. This movement advocates for radical reformation to be done to churches where all practices and theological convictions are thrown away to please non Christians. Can programs be had within churches that reach niche groups of people? Absolutely. But to call Bible study groups or friends who get together over dinner who happen to be Christian a church just screams poor ecclesiology.

New ideas

Simple, practical and creative approach to doing church. I love the clarity in which this little books outlines. This is the best way to get a taste of what a fresh expression of church could look like.
