You can never escape yourself.

It has been a year since the death of Brodie ‘Tosh’ Mackintosh’s husband, Harry. Unable to face all the memories of their life together, he moves into the house of his best friend, Darach McNaughton, and is comforted by the local Church of Scotland minister, Sam Carmichael, the middle of the five Carmichael brothers.

Sam Carmichael has always

I do love a book that involves religion and how it affects either one or both of the main characters. I have to say this was quite different and refreshing. This book IMO, has a better balance of positive/negative aspect of religion. Not to mention the surprise blow thrown in there, my goodness!

This is the first book I have read in the series, and the author did a good job giving the reader enough background so you won’t be completely lost. The only part of the story I still

What happens when the minister who is counseling a parishioner after the untimely death of his husband falls in love the parishioner? That’s exactly what Staying Home by [] explores. Sam {} is a minister in a small village in Scotland, just one town over from where he grew up. He finds himself in the position of being a confidant for Brodie “Tosh” McIntosh after the sudden death of Tosh’s husband, Harry, and soon realizes he is developing feelings for the other man that go far beyond what’s ...more

This is the 3rd book in Alexa's Call of Home series. I would suggest that you read the prior 2 books in this series in order to follow these men and this story. That said, this was a good addition to the series. Sam is a pastor who has put aside his feelings for a life to serve God. Brodie is a man in morning after his husband, Harry, was killed in the prior book trying to help. Sam has been helping Brodie deal with his loss and has grown to have feelings for him. Brodie doesnt think he is ready ...more

Learning to live again.

After his husband's death, Brody is just living. He cannot shake the loss that he feels for his spouse and is just learning to forgive his friend's boyfriend for it. Not exactly finding religion, he attends service and finds peace in the Church that eases his soul and his mind. Brody finds that his time

Of the three, perhaps my favourite - we have had a build up of stories and chracters to get to this point through the previous books. Also, the issues were real - acceptance in the church, dealing with the shick revelation, dealing with grief
Tosh and Sam have had a support relationship since the tragic death of Tosh’s husband. Sam has been a counsel for Tosh more than a man of the cloth.
So their relationship moved from support to more quite quickly being as how Sam was firmly in the closet - and

I am torn about this book. I finished reading it last night but I could not make myself write a review right away because I wanted to sleep on it and my feelings towards this book.

In some ways I did like this book. But then there are other things that I really did not care for about this book.

So I am going to start with what I did like first. I liked the storyline behind "Staying Home." The two main characters Tosh and Sam was stronger characters in this book. My heart broke for Tosh because he

Staying Home is the third book in The Call of Home series, and we meet Sam Carmichael, the Reverend for the local Church of Scotland. He is gay, but keeps it to himself. He has become friendly with Tosh, whose husband was murdered in the previous book. Darach, partner to Brice, is an ex of Tosh's and also had 'liaisons' with Sam when they were a lot younger, so he worries that Sam is using Tosh and does his best to stick his oar in!

Sam and Tosh both have different things to work through. Sam in

Staying Home is the third book in the Call of Home series set in Scotland. It is set a year after Returning Home and I think you need to have read book 2 to understand events in book 3. Some characters from book 3 also appear in the story. The cover shows one of my favourite places. To get to Lossiemouth beach you have to cross this bridge.
Thanks for reading.

It was a nice slow place, low tension book. It wasn't very exciting it was nice. It was interesting nevertheless.
