Practicing the Art of Leadership: A Problem-Based Approach to Implementing the ISLLC Standards
Equipping prospective educational leaders with the tools to understand ISLLC standards and develop the skills to put them into practice, this problem-based text transforms theory into practice through realistic scenarios patterned after those that appear on national examinations. After presenting the two sets of standards that inform leadership and the organizations that develop them in the opening chapters, Practicing the Art of Leadership explores the full spectrum of educational leadership theories and their practical applications to actual classrooms and schools. This book also includes end-of-chapter pedagogical features that encourage critical thinking as well as a companion website that includes a practice performance assessment. The new third edition of this text has been expanded to include features that encourage active student participation and involvement with the text. An additional scenario-based exercise has been added to the end of each chapter along with an updated suggested reading list and website list that both aid in further student learning and research. Two new appendices have also been added — Appendix B includes a standards chart of each state’s individual standards while Appendix C offers exam practice for the School Leader Licensure Examination.

I wasn't convinced at first. The book started out a bit slowly. But Dr. Green makes a good case for his strong opinions on school leadership.
Prentice Hall maintains an excellent web site companion to this text. I found the end-of-chapter quizzes very useful.
The case studies give students plenty of opportunity to play "What if?"
I recommend this book if it's on your assigned reading list!

This is a very succinct and thorough book about the theories and styles of leadership. It shows the evolution of leadership and explains how we have gotten to where we are today. A good text for anyone who intends to be a leader in business or education.
