Meh! Not much that i can give about this story -- way too long, 'REALLY!' Missing from this storyline also was all the 'BDSM' kinky stuff and its nowhere to be found - just some exotic graphic sex scenes....

** LOV2! you're the culprit that nudge me to this book :D

DNF @30%. I'm not the target audience. All they do is obsess over sex, money and power. It's as emotionally deep as a puddle. Bonding in this book is liking the same TV shows, after that they discuss brands, being rich and how they lust after each other.

Eva knows Nadia is the right one because her cunt feels better against her face than all the other hundreds of chicks she's fucked while Nadia lusts after everything Eva is - a beautiful and vain extremely rich heiress that can't keep it in her pants and speaks like a fourteen year old in puberty.

I'm outta here.

Let me count all the ways this story didn't work for me, no let's not!

I lost count of all the derogative comments and assumptions made about people, regardless of wealth, or lack-thereof, gender, sexual orientation, lesbian, bi, gay, straight, vanilla or kinky.

I'm still unsure if this story was supposed to be peppered with humor, an outright piss-take, or just plain ignorant - and frankly I don't care to analyze it for a second longer.

2 stars for being relatively well edited, I only noticed a few typos and one homophone, stationary (pens paper) should be stationery.

Would I read more by either author? Not a chance. But as the saying goes you can't win em all.

This was surprisingly good.

The story revolves around billionaire heiress Eva Warren and Nadia Gaines who is the receptionist for billionaire CEO Ethan Cole. Every time self proclaimed diamond dyke Eva has a meeting with Ethan she just can't help but flirt with the gorgeous Nadia who keeps turning her down because Eva is such a player.

Because of a prank Nadia finds herself trapped for a working weekend along with none other than Eva. Finding it harder to resist the striking blond she finally gives in and sleeps with her only to instantly regret it and therefore starting up yet another round of their longstanding cat and mouse game. What follows is Eva chasing after Nadia trying to convince her to take a chance on the two of them while Nadia is busy thinking of all the reasons why she shouldn't get involved with a player like Eva.

There is great chemistry between the two main characters which leads to some really hot and frequent sex scenes. The secondary characters add a lot of backstory and are sometimes cause for you wanting to throttle them like Eva's mom or cheer for them like Amber and Adrienne whose story can be read in On the Rocks.

The only drawback I could find was that I did not like the writing style of the author very much who chooses often to include the thoughts of whichever character was the focal point of that moment making it a little confusing sometimes. That however is just a personal observation and other readers might actually prefer that method of writing.

If you're looking for a longer than average novel about a tall, rich, sex-on-a-stick blond chasing after a gorgeous, curvy redhead then this is the book for you!

This was an okay book. It took me forever to get into it though. I had a few times I wanted to smack the main characters because they were acting like dumbasses. It has some light BDSM in it so if that's offensive to you, don't read the book. It's a fairly predictable story but one does (eventually) become invested in seeing how it turns out. There are erotic scenes in this book, but they happen about every 3 pages such that it becomes tedious after a while. Oh yeah, and this is the longest beach novel I've ever read.

Rating: 4/5 Penguins
Quick Reasons: diverse romance for the win!; realistic, engaging, and steamy; complex, well-rounded, awesome characters; delicious drama, serious snark; true-to-life, heavy-handed themes; entertaining and thought-provoking read

In my (undeniably never-ending) search for the next great romance, I stumbled across THIS gem--and immediately knew I needed it in my life. I mean, for one--that cover? drool-worthy. Not because it's the prettiest cover ever, but because hooooooly penguins, it's hot.

And this book? DEFINITE HEAT LEVEL, penguins. Seriously, if I were to gauge the temperature found between these sheets ahem, pages, I'd give it a 15 on a 1-10 scale. Seriously, the heat is scorching, and I was taken on a journey of delicious drama, serious snark, and steamy scenes. I mean, don't get me wrong--this book, along with one specific character, definitely played hard to get. But the anticipation? The build-up? The formation and then breaking of the tightrope that Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings lead their readers across? There's something super satisfying in it all that kept me glued to the pages even when I knew I should be focusing on other things.

I'm not great at latte art... Aha! A heart. Or at least it was a recognizable heart. Okay, one side was bigger than the other. Okay, it was starting to melt into the rest of the latte. Um...

"Here." Eva pushed the cup across the counter. "It's nothing special. Sorry. Eh..."

Nadia stared into the cup as the heart drifted apart in two. "Aw. You broke my heart."

The characters are realistic and well-written. I found myself rooting for them even before I was sure THEY were a thing--and not just because the chemistry was undeniable. Their personalities surged from every page to embrace me, to push me away, to make me thing and reconsider. The more heavy-handed, important morals were handled with sensitivity and respect, and interlaced into a story that, in the end, has a much wider scope than the bedroom scenes. There are so many things readers can take away from this novel, I won't try to list them all here--just know that there are some super important, poignant messages shared.

In the end, I had a ton of fun reading this title! The steam level was through the roof, the characters were adorable, and the bigger arcing messages were important and wide-reaching. I really enjoyed getting to know Nadia and Eva, and watching their relationship wilt and blossom with the drama. I'd recommend this to lovers of romance, butterfly-inducing moments, and realistic relationships. This book may play hard to get, penguins, but trust me--it's so worth it!

Well what can I say.......I really wanted to enjoy it but it just fell flat for me. The characters were quite neurotic at times and they kept doing 180's which was annoying me. The story line was flat too basically will they wont...yes they will then naughty photos but hay they are going to go with it. Plus what was it with those other two talk about a complete waste of time. The story didn't really need it either.

What a vapid, irritating collection of characters! Occasionally some insightful observations about gender identity, PTSD, misogyny, and homophobia snuck in (almost as if one of the two authors wanted to give this lesbian sexfest some substance), but mostly it's mean, shallow women who are consumed by issues of money and status. It gets 2 stars instead of 1 because, in spite of what a shit show this book was, I finished it in record time. Must be something to that...

More please

The story of Eva and Nadia really has it all. It tells the story of an attraction between two people that can't be denied no matter how hard one tries. It also shows how this relationship grows into a love that will not denied. The connection these two have is one that we all hope and wish for. The sex between these two wow!! More please! The only thing I disliked was at some points at the beginning I couldn't figure out who the narrator was

I really like it but it was a little too long.
I got a little bored reading it and I drop it, than I got back and you know, it worth the read, but some parts were super unnecessary and made me get super bored.
Also, really hot, a lot of amazing sex scenes, but I'm not a big fan of the MC thinking about random things during sex, I prefer something more focused and stuff, but it's really good, really hot and I'm soooooooo in love with Eva, oh God.
And some moments I got lost on who was talking/thinking, you think is someone that is talking and in the middle of the talk, there's someone's thoughts and oh my God!
I don't know, maybe it's because I'm not a native English speaker, but anyway, it totally worth the reading.

Weird... I wasn't able to connect with either of the main characters, even after 400 pages of reading. Eva is described as suave, flirtatious, in control and elegant - and then she opened her mouth and out popped a teenage boy. The descriptions of Eva and Nadia don't tally with their behaviour or their conversations. They had no meaningful relationships with any of the secondary characters and it seemed like everyone was marking time until the end of the book. Even the sex scenes lacked chemistry or depth.

Both main characters were constantly reaffirming their 'lesbianess' which was strange since they were both out and proud. Nadia kept comparing sex with women to sex with men (in the middle of a sex scene). I kept hoping the book would get better but it never really did.

Fun story

This was a really fun story to read. I like the characters and how they had to learn to trust one another. It was a well rounded story. The sex screens were also quite good.

3.5/5

This was a really interesting read. Although I'm not usually into these kind of books, I'm trying to be more open about new adult books and read more of them. This one was free and seemed cool.

It was really great. The relationship between the two main characters was great and the dynamic of the book was well handled, even if I thought it was just a bit too long.

But this book also has a strong message. About relationships between women and the effect it has in our society. It made me think about stuff I don't usually think about. Yes, I care for gay rights, I always have. But I never really thought about how difficult it must be for women, because two women together is a fantasy in many men's minds, in the society. And it can be a problem. It is a problem, actually.

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about that too much, but I thought it was impressive how well the subject was handled while being really subtle at the same time. It was not moralizing, but it made me think, and that is great!

Nadia is the receptionist at a billionaire's investment company. Because of what she sees on a daily basis, she's adamantly against dating someone rich, even the hot Eva Warren who flirts mercilessly with her. The book is about the ups and downs of their romance, divided into 3 parts: Hard to Get, Hard to Keep, Hard to Stay.

This is a long, long book. Almost too long. Some strong editing could have made it tighter and better. It's not that the characters aren't well drawn or the plot isn't interesting or the sex isn't hot. All of those elements are there. It's just not clear that there needed to be so much of it all, especially after it's clear that these two are going to be together.

I just discovered Hildred Billings and absolutely ADORED Desperate Times. So much, in fact, that this summer I plan to read her entire catalog. Hard to Get is the first in what appears to be a series, a true rich vs poor mixed with butch/femme. I'm a fairly quick reader and this took me 10 hours to finish. I would have split it into two books, but I bet at the time the author didn't realize it could/need to go on. Also, written in 2016, there are parts that seem a little dated (already!), but because of Desperate Times I'm going to continue on my quest to finish the catalog.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This was an awesome story! This book was well written and a blisteringly hot look into another type of genre (lesbians). Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings didn't skip over the tough stuff, instead diving right in and letting us see the messy along with the awesome. Nadia Gaines works as a receptionist for Ethan Cole who is engaged to Jasmine Bliss. Jasmine and Nadia became best friends when Jasmine used to be Ethan’s assistant before she became his girlfriend. Nadia is the beautiful redhead that has a crush on billionaire heiress Eva Warren, but she is afraid to pursue a relationship with Eva because she does not think that Eva is right for her. Despite some past romance trauma, Nadia finds herself quite attracted to the flirtations of Eva and the feeling is mutual with some sizzling chemistry. And some exhilarating excitement adds spice to the story. Eva is determined to win Nadia over—Eva has an opportunity to convince Nadia that they belong together when they are at a winter cabin. Thrills and passion continue to keep you glued to the pages of this fascinating genre. The collaboration between Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings is amazing, and this story is well written—another collaboration between these two authors would be great. You will revel with delight in this raucous story with an erotic flare for the sensuous adult in you! The book will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end.

I need to stop reading these. I really REALLY do. The insecurities are killing me, and the horrible people who inhabit these books are driving the nails into my coffin.

This one wasn't as toxic as the others, thankfully. I actually rooted for them, and I'm glad it ended... well?

Like the others, this novel was self-aware. It acknowledged the frustrating "will they won't they" at the beginning. It's nice when characters/authors can make fun of themselves. It was longer than it needed to be, for me. Brought up a lot of negative feelings towards intolerant parents and predatory men. I could have gone without the ever present reminder that being a woman places you in so many unsafe positions just by living your life and going about your day by default. Not all men are bad, and not all men who you don't particularly know are out to disrespect you or your sexuality. Women are conditioned to be afraid though, and at times for good reason, I'm not going to lie. On top of these feelings of frustration and negativity I could have also done with a lot more diversity in characters (on all spectrum).

Glad it was an HEA, and on that note: Adrienne and Amber, in the preview for the next book at the end, should NOT be together. This wouldn't be the first one about two toxic people finding love, but come on.

Couldn’t Put It Down

I fell into these authors’ works by listening to Into the Fire on Audible and was immediately hooked. While Vanessa and Mitch still remain my favorite couple from this literary world, my second favorite are definitely Nadia and Eva. Eva is a young heiress, who is a self-proclaimed playgirl, yet she sets her sights on Nadia, the receptionist of Thomas-Cole Enterprise. Nadia keeps turning her down, but Eva is relentless. Nadia finally agrees to go on a date and sparks fly. The chemistry between these two is ultra hot, yet this book shows the honest romance that blooms between Eva and Nadia. To me, these characters seem more realistic and down to Earth than the other novels I’ve read in this series. Even though Eva is a billionaire, who can have anything she wants, she remains compassionate towards others and is less arrogant. Likewise, Nadia seems to be well-grounded and real, and I found myself relating to her way of thinking more often than not. If you like realistic characters, slight drama and steamy intimate encounters, then this is definitely the book for you! I can’t wait to read the sequel!

This is a really shy 3 star rating. Not that it was that bad, but it was great either. As a matter of fact, I'm yet to read a BDSM book that will impress me.

The MCs just loved unnecessary drama, especially Nadia. You are attracted to a powerful woman like Eva, own it. First, I didn't feel like she did play hard to get. And as soon as she first acted on that attraction, she continued to play hard to get. But isn't it too late when you've already tasted the forbidden fruit?

Then, the BDSM was completely absent or even the kinky. There was just lots of sex scenes. I guess I was just hoping for... more.

But I also loved it noetheless. Eva's family was entertaining for one. The way she handled her mother, although it always hurt her, the relationship with her brother, but most especially, her friends.

Eva has been trying to get with Nadia for a really long time. I am very familiar with both of these ladies from other books by Cynthia Dane that I have read and enjoyed, and have been hoping for them to get together. I love how the book shows how love is not always the traditional way of between a man and a woman. It also shows how unfortunately a lesbian relationship can be treated differently by others. All of this is done though in a well written, humorous, and dramatic way. I love how Cynthia Dane includes people from her other books in her new books. It is like getting caught up with old friends. With this being said, this book is a standalone. You can read it without having read any of her other books. I loved it!

This has the makings of a reasonable class difference story but there are a few caveats. Many of the characters and their interactions are reminiscent of a mean girls story line; this gets old pretty quickly. The extended sex scenes are fine, but there are quite a few of them and at a certain point they begin to get in the way of the story arc.

By the end, the couple is nominally headed to the expected HEA. However, their relationship still comes across as dabbling in love rather than being in love. Another editorial pass to speed up the plot progression and reduce the number of snobby rich girl memes might be helpful

Different than other works…

Honestly, I’ve never read such juvenile characters. Which would be understandable to a degree, given their ages, but this takes the cake.

There’s playing hard to get and then there is just childish bullshit drama. Honestly, when Nadia blocked Eva the first time, I almost put the book down.

Every interaction between the two main characters is a pissing contest. Chase me, don’t chase me, I want to date you, I don’t want to date you, I am intimidated by your wealth, buy me a car. I never expected to get whiplash from a book yet here I am, eye rolling so hard I can almost forget the neck pain I have from this couple..

First off, I didn't finish this book. Maybe it gets great, further in, but I couldn't take any more. The dialogue is TERRIBLE. If I had a dollar for every cliche I read in the first 8% of the Kindle edition I attempted to read, maybe I'd be a billionaire lesbian heiress. There's nothing so far to make you care about any of the characters. I gave up in the middle of the most boring sex scene--yes, that's right, I gave up in the middle of two people having sex which is somewhat the point, no? But I figured if the sex scenes were this dull then there really was no point in continuing.

Sexy with a heart and a bit more sex. So what do beautiful women do, play hard to get. What do a woman who has everything one can ever want, want the woman who is hard to get. The story is more than just what the physical appearance shows its the heart of the story that gets you hook...The interest in the finding out made me want to read more. With the clever wit, I fell in love with Eva and Nadia. These women was my own hook to wanting to read more F/F love stories. Their story is my favorite. I want more.

So hot! And so fun!

Nothing new about the heat in this book. That is to be expected from this author duo...but, good goddess not a book that gives you a minute to catch your breath before the next round! Phew! So hot!

Great story. Super fun dialogue. Characters that you can relate to. Rich people issues that give a really relatable perspective. There are definitely moments where injustice is palpable. You feel for the hurts and victories, alike.

I loved it and definitely recommend!

There were some parts that were grating for me, the pomp of rich people, but that might be what some readers came to the book n the first place. Too much narrative spent talking readers into BDSM as like a philosophy on how to live. Of the two books in the series, this one did a better job of having a narrative arc, consistency in the characters, etc… Is it possible for there to be so much sex in a book that the reader is like, meh? This rides that line.

Eva did grow on me as a character so there certainly beats of fun and smirk to be had, just not my bag.

Love this book

The main couple, their friends, other couples, major and minor, all the characters are so well-written. The story moves along so well. I keep saying, about some stories, "I'm not really into X, but I enjoyed this particular story.". At some point, I may have to stop saying that! In the meantime, I'm not really into BDSM stories, but this was about so much more than that, and it was done well. Worth the read, even if you're not into that.
