My first graphic novel of the year! I absolutely had a blast with this. The characters are incredibly charming, the designs are fun, and the relationships inclusive and thoughtful. It's been ages since I've read something where every single connection (romantic, platonic, professional, or other) came across as not only authentic but incredibly well thought out. In particular, Suria and Steg's undefined partnership as bandmates, lovers, and friends is so offbeat endearing. I feel like a lot of romantic duos (especially between men and women) are fraught with power dynamics or struggles and it was really refreshing to read about two people who respected and cared about each other in a way that existed outside of labels or stereotypes. I love creative projects written in duos and the husband and wife who put this together are clearly having fun with it. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a comic this much and I can't wait to catch up with what's been posted online! 4 stars.
